  4. The previous post about "conventional wisdom" got me to thinking and wondering to myself, if weighted balls or the use of weighted balls is bad how come every quarterback in the world is not a "Tommy John surgery waiting to happen"? I'm not trying to stir anyone up or re-hash the debate, just thinking out loud. I was under the impression that Nolan Ryans pitching coach (Tom House) while at the Texas Rangers was big into his guys throwing a football for strength, recovery and flexibilty. Last time I looked a football weighs more than a baseball. I will however say that guys who have been in the bigs know way more about the subject than I do and I am in no way trying to discount what they say. Just trying to offer up another way to look at a subject. Respectfully, Rake1
  5. Nice job Sports Fan 929!! You walked right into that one didn't you as well as proved Td's point. At this point in the season these coaches know who to look out for and there are really very few surprises, except for an injured player who returns or some other special circumstances. These coaches network and they all have connections so save the sarcasm. All Td was saying is that the less you talk the less you give away on your own, let them do their own homework. Which if I'm not mistaken is exactly what Hitchpin just did, enough to let you know but not enough to really tell you anything. Please enlighten us with more amazing posts SF929.
  6. The Gulf Coast Storm baseball organization came home this weekend with 2 championships. The 10 yr olds won their tournament in Lafayette/Baton Rouge after a long day Sunday. All the players had a hand in bringing home the title. Congrats to all the players and coaches on taking the title. The 14's took the championship out at Marauder Park in Lumberton against a field of good local teams. Both the Gladiators and Whitcaps are to be commended for having some quality young men that play a good brand of baseball. The Storm 14's played excellent defense and were involved in some really good games. The folks at Marauder Park should be proud of their facility, it was a pleasure to play at that nice complex. Congrats to all the players and coaches on a good weekend.
  7. Wow!! What a game!! If this is what the rest of district is going to be like then I advise everyone to get on some heart medicene. Big momentum swings, great pitching, timely hits, and then some. Speaking of pitching, you have to just shake your head and tip your cap to Zane Anderson (WOS) and Logan Johnson (HF). Both of these young men were outstanding. Anderson had 10K's, several of them with HF threatening to break the game open. Johnson was just as good, especially through the middle of the game where he settled down after giving up 2 in the first. WOS took adantage of their team speed by pressuring on the bases all night. HF swung some mean sticks, especially Markum, that guy can flat out rake. In the end WOS overcame several defensive errors and held on for a clutch win over a very good HF team. Taylor Turley coming through with a big hit in the bottom of the 7th for a big game winning RBI. Look for another barn burner when these 2 get together again, only next time it will have even more serious playoff implications.
  8. Final WOS        11 Kirbyville    1 Darnall 5 inning complete game. Very nice effort on the mound.
  9. You are correct in saying "there's no crying in baseball", but there is also a "right way and a wrong way to play" as well. Hopefully you will figure that out someday, preferably sooner than later.  ;)Right back at ya.
  10. Aggies are we, do you ever say anything positive without the sarcasm? Just wondering because you seem to lead the pack when it comes to piling on. Just a random observation. ???
  11. 14 Y/O tournaments are 60/90 out there at Marauder Park correct?
  12. Homer, this one's for you! Simple math 5 district games scheduled 3 district games played U figure it out!! I have no problem giving credit where credit is due, 3-0 in district is 3-0 in district. Congrats to the undefeated Mustangs, players, coaches, and all associated with the program because your future is bright. Riojas, Shug, Hallman, and all the coaches should be commended for their work this year. I feel like I have justified my statements as best I can, no sense trying to have a conversation with someone who won't listen to any other ideas. Have a good one, I'm out! With Respect, Rake1
  13. QueenB, it would serve you well to read the entire post next time before you jump in and get on a high horse ;). I have already congratulated all the middle school players for a great year earlier in the thread so get your facts straight and then come on back and join in. As far as my ongoing conversation with Gas it's all in good fun between two folks who just see things differently, nothing personal and nothing meant to be anything more than good natured debate. Gas is a very knowledgeable dude and I don't dispute that, all I said was that there's another side to the story or claim and I gave my version. Last time I looked we are entitled to do that every now and again. I have no problem saying I agree to disagree on this subject. QueenB you may now proceed with your regularly scheduled holier than thou programming ::). Rake1
  14. Pardon me, let me rephrase, not moral victory just default district championship due to incomplete schedule.  8) 8) I'm no more involved in this than the next guy, I'm a baseball dude and have players on nearly every team in the district so my allegiance is to no school but to a few kids ;D. I have certainly enjoyed this little spirited discussion, I guess I will unhook you and release you to fight another day. Nothing like internet fishing. Rake1
  15. Moral victory I guess. I wonder if they will put an asterisk out beside the result ;) ;) in order to show that there are issues with the outcome. Kinda like winning the Daytona 500 due to rain after 400 miles, almost there but not quite ;D ;D. Things that make you go......HHHHMMMMMM!
  16. Gas, I can't speak for Silsbee on the 7th grade championship but I do know that all the games were not played. I guess we can amend the district championship claim to a more factual "district leader" since they lack 2 games on their record ;D ;D ;D. Congrats. Good luck to the Stangs tonite and in the playoffs. Rake1
  17. Kinda seems like 6 degrees of seperation, you may have dated Paris Hilton with that kind of logic!! A pre district game doesn't count does it? So I guess now maybe we can revert to scrimmages and settle the issue ;D ;D. "We beat you in a scrimmage and our regular game got cancelled so we get the win, hooray we are the champs!!". Incomplete schedule....period.
  18. Please don't take this as any disrespect but didn't all the 8th grade programs play an incomplete schedule? I know WOS had 2 games cancelled and all the other schools had games during district cancelled as well. Hard to declare a true district champ under those circumstances isn't it? :-\ I would however like to congratulate all the local middle school players for some great football this year. I saw plenty of games from all over the triangle and beyond, the talent pool is deep and the football future shines bright. Rake1
  19. Gas, thanks for shedding a little light on the subject about scheduling. I thought the whole thing was a bit odd because there were other places to play. I guess the only folks who know how the whole conversations went were the coaches and we can't go back and change that. I just wish that the cancelled games could be made up so "ALL" the boys who have been affected could get the opportunity to play. I have enjoyed watching all the schools play this year, especially since we know a bunch of folks from other teams. It will really be fun when they get older. Look forward to some awesome games in the future. Rake1
  20. 2010, I've got folks on 4 teams!! WOS, BC, HJ and Silsbee. I never even got close to saying WOS was a punk team so be careful about putting words in my thread. I did say WOS was talented but they are not dominant or scaring people like Icewater wants the world to believe. Silsbee had a pile of turnovers and was still in the ball game until the last minutes and lost by 6 or 7. Bridge City gave them all they wanted, 6-0 is not domination unless we are talking about soccer or hockey :D :D :D! I feel for all the kids who had games cancelled, it's a shame because they work really hard and deserve to play. All I was doing was adding a little bit of the opposite side of the story for the rest of the world to hear. After all there are always two sides to every story. As far as playing WOS, I can tell you personally that nobody from BC, Silsbee, or HJ is scared to play them and that's just a fact. The boys I know would tell you when ever and where ever you want to strap 'em up is fine with them, they never had a hand in the cancelling of the games. Too bad we won't get to see the games made up, I would like to see the district race played all the way out and a true champ crowned from whatever school has the best record. Good luck too them all.
  21. Icewater, I have no idea which games you have been watching concerning the A teams?? Yes WOS is talented but they have been far from dominant. They beat Silsbee by a touchdown after Silsbee fumbled 5 times and they squeaked out a 6-0 win over BC in a pre district match up. I agree they are good but the statements about nobody wanting to play them is more than a little off base. The BC game that got cancelled was a mystery? I understand the Varsity rules in situations like this, especially concerning possibly messing up the fields any more than they were. Bridge City's field was wreck to say the least so instead of playing there while the Freshman and JV went to the middle school campus the 7th and 8th grades got left out. Why couldn't they play at Dan Hooks stadium? I know 7th and 8th graders wouldn't mess the field up nearly as bad as the bigger guys? Or even better, the JV and Freshman should have played at Hooks Stadium and the middle schools should have played at East Campus leaving the field at BC ready for the varsity. JMHO. As far as playing the 8th grade A team, I'm sure both BC and HJ would line up in the Wal Mart parking lot and play WOS if they would let them, no fear from either school.
  22. Very few if any coaching staffs make adjustments as well as the WO-S staff, they will steady the ship and come out re-focused no doubt. Like the old quote says "don't kick a sleeping dog". One would certainly expect a much better performance in the weeks to come.
  23. Just out of sheer curiosity what is the all time record between Silsbee and WO-S? THey played some great games during the late 80's. How long has it been since Silsbee won against WO-S? In a previous post someone had 98 as the last time they defeated WO-S, is that correct? If so I guess that would explain all the "madness" on the board, I guess now the silsbee faithful will have a story to tell their grandchildren....."I remeber when......" ;D ;D ;D Seriously though what is the all time record between these two teams and when is the last time Silsbee won.
  24. The 14 yr old team currently has a full roster so they will not be having another tryout.
