  1. The player’s age on April 30th determines the player’s eligible age division for the current season that includes April 30th.  To be eligible to play on the Whitecaps: The must either have a playing age of 15 OR Have a playing age of 16 AND be an INCOMING Freshman during Fall of 2010
  2. The SETX SELECT Whitecaps 15U are looking for 2-3 high level players to join our team this Fall.  (We lost a few players because of football conflicts)  Any 16 or 15 year old incoming Freshman is eligible to play even though it is labeled as a "15U" team.  The Whitecaps consist of High School players from all over Southeast Texas.  We will be practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:30 (beginning on August 17) and will play two tournaments each month starting in September and ending in December.  One of the tournaments each month will be in Lumberton, TX at Marauder Park and the other will vary between the Houston area, Tyler, and Louisiana. All SETX SELECT teams have paid coaches who are former players who have no children or relatives in the oragnization thus giving each and every player an equal chance to succeed.  Not only do our coaches strive to give each player high quality instruction, but we are also in the business of molding young athletes into high character young men.  We believe that hard work, commitment to a plan, good grades, and acting right "off the field" is essential to being a successful student athlete. The Whitecaps have been competing in tournament ball since February of 2009 and just finished their Spring/Summer season in the 14U Elite Division of Nations with a 53-21-1 record.  Although we do not play to stock up on wins, we do believe that our record shows the hardwork and dedication put in by our players, coaches, and parents. The Whitecaps are coached by: Justin Rhodes, Derik Kilmer, and VJ Bunner For any information about the Whitecaps or to schedule an individual tryout email me at [email protected] or call me (Justin Rhodes) at 781-8569.

  10. With the Spring/Summer seasons just around the corner, I just want to remind everyone invloved with 13 Under and 14 Under baseball that Marauder Park in Lumberton will be hosting several tournaments throughout the season for 13 and 14 year old teams.  There are currently eight 13U tournaments listed and seven 14U tournaments listed starting in February and running until June.  Marauder Park is all the way down at the VERY end of Keith Rd. (Just take the Keith Rd. exit off Eastex Fwy headed toward Lumberton, turn left on Keith Rd. and continue down until the end) The men who run Marauder Park do an AMAZING job maintaining the facility and fields.  Both fields there have artificial grass infields (just like Vincent Beck at Lamar University) so rainouts are VERY unlikely.  But the best thing Marauder Park has to offer is the atmosphere.  After traveling around to several parks and complexes, there is not one place that compares to the atmosphere at Marauder Park.  The players and parents enjoy the feeling there that "Select Baseball" is not about making money but instead about giving youg atheletes an opportunity to play and develop at a high level in a good "baseball" environment.  If you do much traveling for baseball, there is nothing more frustrating than paying $500 to enter an out of town tournament and finding out that the field you have paid to play on does not have a working scoreboard, has an ant hill for a pitcher's mound, and when the field needs to be managed between games there is no Tournament Director to be found.  I assure this is not how things are handled at Marauder Park.  Whether it be the fully working scoreboard and well kept field/facilities, the hardworking people who run the park, the announcer and music being played over the loudspeakers during the game, or just the good family environment Marauder Park will remind you why baseball is America's Pastime.  All the tournaments are Nations sanctioned and can be found on their website: nations-baseball.com
  11. We do have a 14U team but unfortunatley had our tryouts for the Spring season in December and have already composed a full roster... All future tryout dates and any important information regarding SETXSELECT teams will always be listed on setxsports.com (it's the best way to get the word around  ;D ) and setxselect.com (our program's website  :) )
  12. The SETX SELECT 14U Whitecaps finished their fall season this past weekend in Lumberton at the Winter Classic going 2-1 and were Co-Champs along with the Beaumont Gladiators.  The Whitecaps finished their Fall Season with a 21-6 record and winning 10 of their final 11 games.  The coaches at SETX Select are VERY proud of the success this group of guys has had and we hope to continue it through the Spring/Summer season which will begin in Feburary.  The Whitecaps were led offensively this past weekend by: Shay Singleton (Vidor) .363 AVG, .454 OBP, 3 R, 3 RBI Zach Johnson (Vidor) .400 AVG, .714 OBP, 2 R Jarrod Taylor (Vidor) .400 AVG, .857 OBP, 3 R
