Prime example for a certain player a few years back  named Preston Riggs for PNG perhaps the best receiver we have ever had. He was All State in Football, Baseball, and Soccer.

Preston Riggs did not play baseball. He was All-State in football, soccer, and track.

Hearing Nguyen maybe be close to 200 yards again. Waiting on the stats. Conner Bailey is gonna be something special the next two seasons, being a 10th grader and already breaking out for the Indians. We have a large group back next year including both power five linemen, the big NT in the middle. #15 Chattinger at RB, a couple of WR, actually a lot of the defense is back and a JV that has only given up 6 points in 4 games, 0 in one game and 8 another game. Almost the whole o line is back. Number 4 linebacker who is 6'2" and over 200 is a 10th grader. We are a young team with a lot of room to grow.

    #4 is a Junior.

I understand that Burnet made players, moms and dads mad over 19 years.  I feel confident that most felt intimidated by his size and demeanor --- and they should be - so after his reassignment everyone who felt wronged by him really became vocal.

BTW another coach had an even lower winning percentage at PNG.  Guy named Bum Phillips.

Why is Coach Burnett’s name even being brought up. He hasn’t coached at PN-G in 10 years...

    It’s Over, let it go!

don't need one when your kicker is putting the kicks out of the end zone lol

Didn't really need it then then either, the two years we had the "Banzai Man", we had a kicker you might remember named Keith Waguespack. Hands down the best kicker in PN-G History. He was one of the only high school All-Americans to play at PN-G. The "Banzai Man" was strictly for the fans!

Highly doubtful since the kid was ranked 1st in football offseason stats. I think all she was trying to say is it take the whole team to be 5-0. Just like it's going to take the entire team to make us 6-0 tonight.

Prayers for the rain to let off and for both teams to have a safe game!

    Let's scalp 'em! C1CCFD8E-1401-4D85-B8E8-727CEAD1385BL000

What I find interesting about this picture, is that for a team that always stacks its best players on offense, and then throws the outcast bodies over on defense, how did (5) of the (10) best athletes coming out of spring offseason end up on defense this fall?

Well 1. I know Kyle and Jay - happy bday Jay 2. Larry does outcoach BF - saw him at 9:30 Mass Sunday 3. Was at  the 74 game and know Kyle and knew Neal Morgan VERY WELL 4. Know one of the coaches at LSU

None of which has ANYTHING to do with PNGs 2017 defensive statistics

    WOW!

  7. OK Whoa, but just looking at some of these posts, some of many, particularly the parts in bold, it sure seems your a Nederland guy, or maybe just portray yourself to be occasionally!!!

Whoa posted a topic in High School Baseball 2018

Is it true Kyle Green and Jay Stone to Nederland as asst coaches. What a catch for us

     22-5a after week 5

Whoa replied to ROSCHONSBIGBRO's topic in High School Football 2017

PNG should kill us they are extremely talented and pretty.  This should be their best group since??? last year with Morse and the year before that and the year before that and the year before, etc... All we do is out coach them and win at the end

    2.  Port Neches-Groves 42 Goose Creek Memorial 7/FINAL

Whoa replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football 2017

Been like that for PNG since 1974  when Kyle Aggilard pushed down our db to catch a game winning pass that put them in the playoffs - our program went down and they started that 5/6 year run.  They really do look pretty but look at all the personal fouls that GET called against them  and the ones that don't.   Must be the purple sun glasses

    1.  Png WR Keynel McZeal verbally commits to…….

Whoa replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football 2017

I am told he did great as a DE at the LSU camp  think about put on 40 pounds make him 260/270 still fast.   But Fairyclothe will probably keep him as a wide out to help his passing agenda  hopefully Larry can pull an athlete out to continue his winning games agenda  7 straight??????????

Me too.  Facts are what they are.

Faircloth does QBs great - as good as most  BUT defense not so much.

Maybe expectations too high considering Burnetts reputation as a really good D coach.

500 yards a game is what it is.

Whoa, why do you care how many yards PN-G gives up, I would think you'd want them to give up a bunch! Aren't you a Nederland guy?

send me flowers and card and have a seat...that's when the onside kicking started smh...matthews plays his game, no telling what would have happened. bet that wont happen again this year.

You keep bringing up onside kicks. That doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter if they started doing cartwheels or high kicks. Scoreboard is ALL that matters!

  10. 3 minutes ago, pakronos said:

but you missed when vidor kept onside kicking?? lol smh...those purple glasses smh...dominated would mean you blew us out...smh which you didn't and the game went to the wire smh...png...cupcake smashing since 2016

I said dominated the second half.

    I feel sad for you!

go back to halftime i think it was when vidor started onside kicking and it backfired...that's how they let PNG back in the game...don't act like they came out and jumped all over vidor smh

I was at the game, and have watched it 2-3 times since then since I had two sons on the team. PN-G Totally Dominated the second half...Much like the way they did last week against PAM!

Yes, Coach Faircloth puts an emphasis on offense.  It's no surprise.  His background includes stops at Odessa Permian, Highland Park, and Austin Westlake as an offensive coordinator, QB coach, run game coordinator, passing game coordinator, etc.

Not true that the PN-G defense is just thrown together.   Depending upon the talent pool, which isn't overflowing in Port Neches and Groves, he identifies leaders and tries to build around them, e.g., Rembert, LeJeune, Anniboli, Bost, and LeBoeuf.  Those kids were not/are not "just thrown together with the players left after the offense is stacked."

The Indians have some young talent on defense.  A few SOPHs that should develop into a strong unit this year and over the next two years.  We bend and try not to break on defense.  Keep everything in front of you, don't get beat deep on the big play, and put as many people around the ball as possible.  That's the philosophy of Coach Faircloth on defense.  Each kid is taught to do his job and get to the football.  We've given up some yards, but we've made some stops.  We're only giving up, on average, ~20 points/game, which isn't too bad.  PAM gave up 44 points last week and they have what most experts/posters on this board have called a "legit" defense or "one of the best they've seen."  PN-G has some talent on defense.  Bost, LeBoeuf, Ayala, and Hammonds.  The tall, lanky SOPH #90 and some of the DBs should keep developing.  Each Friday night under the bright lights is an opportunity for them to get better.  They aren't too bad for a group "just thrown together."

Do any of you ever go to PN-G Booster Club meetings or do you ever speak with Coach Faircloth or Coach Templin?  They might not have meetings this year because of the compressed scheduled, but I'm asking about the past, too.  Several people post on this message board pretending to know what they're talking about, but do you ever speak to the men coaching the Indians?

    Go Indians.  Peace.

Yes, I can think of a few years the best athlete on the team was on defense. How about D.J. Schexnider to start. He was hands down the best athlete on the team.

  13. Could the PN-G defense be better, sure, but this is the case with most defenses in today’s era off high powered offenses. I for one appreciate good defense, I was a defensive guy myself. But I tend to be more of a Win/Loss guy…and PN-G wins at a pretty high percentage. They also regularly make the playoffs and move on into the later rounds. Plenty of other teams cannot say that. Giving up a few more points to me is not an overly big deal if you are Winning. If PN-G was having 6-4 or 5-5 records every year, I too would be complaining about the defense giving up points. But that is FAR from the case. There are actually PN-G fans that would rather give up 15 points a game, go 6-4 on the year, and say, “Well, the defense played good, we tackled good, and our DB’s were good in coverage”, I’m OK with this year...rather than go 11-2 or 10-3 into the playoffs and maybe give up a few more points per game. Me, I’ll take giving up a few more points here and there to continue to Win football games. To me, Winning is the bottom line!

    Maybe I'm wrong.

What’s this average against above average teams? What’s this average in the elimination game in the playoffs? Take out the average of the 5 or so cupcake games we have every year.

This is the same for every team, correct? Every team plays tougher opponents in the playoffs, and, has a few cupcakes every year...it still averages out, just like everyone else!

Serious question, from an outsider looking in!  Has PNG fielded a good defense since Faircloth has been there?  Even during his 1st year, they were having to score 40+ points to win, in the playoffs anyways.

He seems to put a premium on offensive production, and having a legit defense it's not an importance to him.

Since his first year, 2009, PN-G defenses have given up an avg. of (23.3) points per game, including playoffs.

no need. last year PAM killed themselves with fumbles and falling for the banana in the tailpipe. in the second half, PAM forced Vidor on a few turnover on downs. and and xbox bad play calling at the end....if i'm not mistaken, Vidor should have beaten PNG last year, but the onside madden monkey was in full effect. i don't think matthews will make the mistake of onside kicking every time.

How is a 41-22 final score Vidor “Should Have” beaten PN-G last year?

    What constitutes a run?

your looking at a winnable first round game, a decent fort bend team in round 2, then potentially run into college station again, who lost by 7 points to Austin freakin' Westlake, PN-G would have to play over their heads a little to get that one, but it's not impossible

say they fall short in the 3rd round game? is that not a great season all things considered? I would say that it is, but some of you supposed Indian lovers will scream bloody murder.

Spoiler alert...PN-G ain't winning the state championship, even with the QB they likely just can't run with the more talented teams in the state, somebody will eventually beat them, once that happens all you arm chair Lombardi's who did nothing but criticize all year will then get to beat your chest "see! see! see!...I told you they don't coach defense worth a flip..when I was coaching these boys to the 8 yrs olds national championship over in Hampshire we tackled everybody!"

I remember when all you fellas screamed out how FC couldn't win a "big game"...that's really easy, you just wait until they lose, then say "see!..that was a big game and he didn't win it!"....nevermind all the games he did win to get to that game...they weren't the "big game"...but now that they've won a few undoubtedly big games, ya'll gotta shift gears and find something else to criticize. If the defense pitches shutouts in the next 5 games some of ya'll will be on here talking about how the Ice in the concession stand melts into your coke too fast and what the hell are those coaches doing about it by God.

    Once Again...BINGO!

You guys are amazing, the team is undefeated and just knocked off a ranked opponent as severe underdogs and you start a thread to bash the coaches.

I'll tell ya what boys, once that QB graduates my guess is your current staff will be out of there on the first thing smoking to a different school that appreciates what they are capable of, and nobody could blame them.

When that day comes, you guys go ahead and take the reigns of the program, bring in a few other good ol' boys that know what it means to be an true indian!, put in the ol' wing T offense and have all the boys go both ways, slam 'em into each other for 3 hours a day to "get 'em tough". Congratulations, you will have become vidor, every now and then put together a decent run but for the more part your sitting at 5-5, 6-4 year in and year out

did it ever occur to you, that playing kids both ways requires that the offensive kids spend half of their time at practice working a defensive position? Which then means the offense would have to be dumbed down considerably. No more gadgets, no more qb and wr's in perfect sync, you'll be back to the days of 2 runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd, then an overthrown pass on third down, then bring out the punter.....

your current staff has put the most dynamic kids on offense to go with your superstar quarterback, then put a bunch of average athletes with a lot of heart on D and coached them well enough to shut down a bunch of D1 athletes in the 2nd half of that game Friday night, you should be having statues commissioned of those coaches, but instead your going to run them out of town before too long, different town/same story all over the state, nothing ever good enough for some I suppose

Bing...then back to mediocre win/loss records!
