  1. Part of the problem in some areas that doesn't even exist in SETX really is the stadiums and arenas aren't on campus. I vividly remember in the 80s going to WB playing Central at Lamar and that game outdrew the LU game the next day. This year living in Baytown which has one stadium and it's not a highly populated area, but I know for instance this year Nederland had a much bigger crowd on their side vs Lee and Lee was the home team. And also remember though some games are on Thursday which is still a school night so many up even if they have the means to attend may not be allowed to because of school the following day. I think on campus stadiums would do a lot more for campus morale and student support than the college type facilities of some places. But it's all about $, I don't know if Scar plays on an on campus or not but I bet no.
  2. Yes, we're healthy.
I want to know if the Lee player that got taken out on the stretcher is ok. He got bent up pretty bad. That kid didn't move after that.... even after losing up on the stretcher, he showed no signs of movement. That was very scary. Maybe Panamamyers can shed some light on that?

Glad we didn't go last night, living in Baytown and wife teaches in Baytown and is a Lee grad so we have tix and go to the home games but had a wedding to go to last night. Lee is just flat out bad football, as I told Harold before the Ned game there's maybe 1 player for Lee who could play at Ned. But never want a kid to get hurt and was probably someone she taught. Anyone remember what number it was?
  3. Unimpressed. This is not about coaching or winning now, now its about a brand name.  Pat may be a class guy but the comparison I draw is to nascar, Dale Sr (Bobby) had gone down every road, won everything there is, torch passed to Dale Jr (Pat) who despite coming from the same family just doesnt have it.  You want to build LU back up, look at the Butler or VCU model, Stevens is what 34? Smart cant be much if any older. No retreads from power families or assistants who have been around forever, hire the young guns.
  4. I hate announcers who have to say the players numbers before saying their names on every play, we can see the numbers. I remember when channel 6 had real sports anchors not uber-tanned talking heads like Friedman.  When your lead sports anchor isn't even capable of doing play by play and is relegated to basically doing color thats a large hint that he doesnt know his stuff.  Bring back the good days of Greg Kerr and Bob Slovak.
  5. Earl Thomas' Twitter tonight: http://twitter.com/Earl_Thomas

"Hurting right now.keep the Garret family in ur prayers.we lost a great person tonight.and it effects the whole community.just wanna go home."

even those from Orange who were Mustangs still remember, from WOS, to UT to the NFL.  Shows what class kids Dan Hooks has.  As a parent who lost his son 14 years ago many prayers and blessings.
  6. the ref beyond sucked, soccer needs more than one referee on the field to see and judge calls, the whole "extra time" thing is bull, put 45 mins on the clock, count it down not up, if a player gets hurt or ball goes out of play simply stop the clock not have someone who puts up an arbitrary number, US soccer needs someone like a Mark Cuban who doesnt care about FIFA and will call out the rules or refs, use some instant replay, this is 2010, not 1970, only having 3 substitutions is stupid so if you sub 3 players out and then someone gets hurt  you cant replace them?  Do something similar to team fould in basketball, if a team gets say 5/6 yellow cards it results in a PK, what was it they said on coverage the other day the first 11 games there were 18 total goals scored?  And people wonder why soccer never catched on in the US?
  7. FEMA is going to get crucified either way with this storm.  Ike's impact on sheer number of people is bigger than that of Katrina and Rita combined.  I knew N.O. is a large city but in terms of residents impacted the numbers from Katrina and Rita put together will not equal Ike.  So there is no feasible way FEMA could spring the $2000 deal again, Houston alone is what 5 million residents?  Even if tried to say they were all married with 2 kids that would leave 1.25 million multiplied by $2000 that would be 2.5 billion dollars and we all know that rough math is way low and only factors in the city of Houston, not SETX, not Galveston, not Conroe etc etc etc.  So it appears to me that FEMA is damned if they do and damned if they dont.  Even with the new insurance guidelines after Rita I'd be shocked if insurance companies are able to pony up everything they should, and then after that even if they did, why would they even offer insurance to people living so close to the shore after 2 major storms in 3 years, think the rates were bad before, think what they will skyrocket to.  Electric, make sure you ask Entergy to kiss you afterwards for the treatment you are bound to get.  They were still raising rates from Rita this year to pay for their losses from 2005, that would be another increase in your bill. Oh wait, you need gas for your car?  All the refining plants down for a while, rigs as well waiting on power, that will be another increase for your wallet.  Then add to that the number of people jobless due to the storm, thus making the workplace more competitive, why pay someone $10 an hour to work, when this other person who is out of job will do the same job for $8 or 9 per hour.  Doesn't paint a pretty picture.  And in case anyone thinks I'm deliberately trying to flame, believe me that is far from the truth, even though I personally dont live in SETX any longer I still have a child who does so she has to continue to grow up, so I hope my above mentioned fears arent true.

  9. My gut feeling says that when all is said and done that Ike will make Katrina/Rita look very pale by comparison.  The population of Houston alone is what 6-8 times that of New Orleans and thats just Houston not Galveston, the Triangle etc?  Add to that the number of Katrina evacuees living off the FEMA for the last 3 years currently in Houston who never left after Katrina was over will be amongst the first in line with their hands back out.  Plus, the fact that as a whole Houston is a wealthier city than NO for insurance purposes will probably crater the insurance market bankrupting many firms, then once Entergy gets power back up you will hear again as we did post Rita about how much money they lost damage wise which will mean jacking the electric rates thru the roof, if i'm not  mistaken they were trying to raise rates this summer before Ike and still attributing it to Rita. Not to even mention the price of gas in my guess will hit $5 per gallon by end of the month because of possible damage to the rigs and the all the area plants. And the gov't thinks the economy sucks now, it has not yet begun to suck
