  1. I was thinking we could have Mack could come show off his NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RING or have Vince bring the ROSE BOWL TROPHY, but then I got to thinking oh wait its aggy night they don't win national championships or bowl games....is anyone even still alive from their 1939 title??

Funny how RC got drummed out of collie station because he couldn't win the big one and up until t+1of 2006 all the ags were begging for him back with Fraudchione there.

Then again what a coup to bring in the only football coach that has actually won a bowl game at atm in the last 10 years, that 2001 win against TCU in the no longer existing galleryfurniture.com bowl was just so scintillating!!!

Thought I saw Ashly last night at Madisons but wasnt sure

  2. I doubt it, she learned the words to "The Eyes Of Texas" and "Texas Fight" at the age of 2, like her dad she's a Longhorn, but thats no reflection on LU, if she were to persue an Engineering or Nursing degree I would have no problems with her attending there.  She has only one mandate from me about schooling as she grows up, anywhere but college station.  ;D

  3. I dont have any loyalty to there as I didnt attend college there, but that being said I would like to see them succeed as in the past, hell I did their PA announcing from about 1995-1999 in the Montagne.  I was there when Tom Penders brought the Horns into Beaumont.  But I think the kids LU has been getting the last what 15 years are not the answer....why is it NW La or SHSU finds kids who can play and LU can't???  Or is it that Bmt is still stuck in the late 70s-80s and thinks we're right there.  There's not a school in the SLC  who LU didnt used to thump regularly and it wasnt even close.  Now every year they struggle around .500 while what are really lesser schools and historically programs are not beating top teams but competing with them.

  4. I'm not hiding behind anything, all I'm repeating is what a friend of mine who is a local HS basketball official told me.  And as for my daughter she starts kindergarten next September, you've got a while to wait.  I didnt go to college here, went to high school and thats it, just because I live here doesnt mean I owe LU anything, I dont owe them my allegiance because I live here.

A kid as talented as J'Covan is, I can completely believe him to be a head case, it's all too common with kids that age these days, look at the kids who commit to one school then switch after one season because they didnt get their playing time.  He went to Kelly the last 2 years on a scholarship, it wasnt like he lived in Beaumont, the faculty basically didnt invite him back for this year.  but thats all off the point of this topic.

I know this is Roc's first year as head coach but from what I've seen so far it's the same story verse 8 since Foster left, LU plays to the ability of their opponent, home games against smaller schools LU used to win by 40-50-60 are now by 15-20.  And they havent been good on the road in ages.

  5. From some local HS refs I know he is a BIG school talent with a small school mind.  I know one ref who is no longer allowed to ref Memorial games because he gave J'Covan a Technical.  So if he does come here my guess is that it will be due to him not being mature enough to handle a big time program.

  6. Catters have 3 players on the all star team, defensemen Mike Madill and Paul Albers, forward Kevin Baker and the Catters head coach Malcolm Cameron will be on the bench tonight as well.  Baker is alternate captain for the all star team.  There are 4 different ways to watch the game tonight...

    Dish Network Ch 540

    Direct TV ch 768

    TWC ch 963

online live via B2 networks at echl.com

Catters play in Pensacola Fri and Sat before coming home on Sunday to face the Ice Pilots at 2:05 the next week the South Carolina Sting Rays and former Catter goalie Davis Parley come to town for 3 games next weekend.

This Sunday is also kids day, $5 tix for kids under 12 and Burger King is sponsoring it giving away free X box games

  7. That was embarassing, it would be one thing if LU got rolled like that against Memphis or some other top 25 program but against SHSU?  Pathetic.  I havent been to a Cards game in person this year because of my schedule with Wildcatters hockey but after watching that last night on tv, why would I want to???  We dont get any top teams coming in here, and this would be the same problem the football program if it were re-instated would face, no good teams coming in equals no good support.

  8. Catters came out blazing tonight Olivier Proulx scored in the first period for a 1-0, then Mike Bayrack had the natural hat trick 3 goals all in the 2nd period, one on a powerplay, one shorthanded and one even strength to make it 4-0 Catters after 2 periods.  ECHL All-Star defenseman Mike Madill joined the party in the 3rd with his 2nd goal of the season to make it 5-0 before Pensacola could solve Catters goalie Miroslav Kopriva, Catters then added goals by Leon Hayward and another by Proulx to go up 7-1 before Pensacola got 2 late in the 3rd but the Catters come back home with a 7-3 win to stay tied for first in their division with Florida and Gwinnett.

Florida comes to Beaumont this week starting Thursday for a 3 game set, need to get everyone out and join the party, already have 2 Catters moved up to the AHL and 3 others on the ECHL All Star team, no more football, no more Christmas shopping, no more EXCUSES why you cant be there.

LETS GET LOUD....LETS GET ROWDY...LETS PLAY HOCKEY!!!!!!

  10. B-SENS SIGN DEFENSEMAN JEAN-FRANCOIS DAVID

The Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League today announced that they have signed defenseman Jean-Francois David to a 25-game professional tryout agreement.

David, a native of Montreal, Quebec, has three goals, 20 assists and 57 penalty minutes in 19 games with Texas (ECHL) this season.

The 24-year-old also collected one assist and two penalty minutes in one game with Manitoba (AHL) this season.

  11. A couple of thoughts here, one Ford Park needs to get the damn sign out on I-10 fixed, unless you know the team schedule by heart you drive by the arena at 645 Friday night you see the big HEB banner going on how do you know there's even a hockey game at 730?? Seriously, get the sign fixed somehow someway. Thats a bunch of advertising right there to people up and down I-10.

The "football land" thing doesnt fly here, thats a BS lame excuse football is no bigger here than it is in Odessa, I'm not sure what Odessa's population is but I'd bet this area is bigger but yet Odessa averages about 1000 more fans per night for a Jackalopes game in the CHL. In fact this is the current CHL attendance thru last night 12/15.

    TEAM YESTERDAY TOTAL GAMES AVERAGE

    Oklahoma City 7,947 87,498 11 7,954

    Wichita 65,984 10 6,598

    Laredo 4,872 68,974 13 5,305

    Colorado 58,179 11 5,289

    Rio Grande Valley 58,978 12 4,914

    Bossier-Shreveport 48,162 10 4,816

    Tulsa 4,930 35,351 8 4,418

    Rocky Mountain 4,021 36,208 9 4,023

    Arizona 39,455 10 3,945

    Corpus Christi 3,614 42,324 12 3,527

    Lubbock 30,212 9 3,356

    New Mexico 2,923 35,596 11 3,236

    Youngstown 25,804 8 3,225

    Amarillo 2,596 28,058 10 2,805

    Memphis 2,462 41,236 15 2,749

    Odessa 32,893 12 2,741

    Austin 20,900 11 1,900

Now seriously, the only Texas city on that list thats bigger than Beaumont is Austin, and the Bat Cave there wayyyyyyyyyyyy out of the way. If Laredo and Rio Grande Valley can draw 5000 a night why cant Beaumont??? The team is in FIRST place, so we have a winning team, its not the same Catters as before, our next win ties us with the total amount of wins we had last time there was a season before Rita except this time we're only 1/3 of the way thru the season.

I think the problem is there are still so many people upset about Ford Park even standing, that they wanted Rita to shred it badly, guess what, grow up, quit hoping for a natural distaster to cover it on insurance even if that did happen you're not getting your tax money back. SO you'd rather the arena sit there and fail, thats the "redneck mentality" spoken of prior I believe.

Secondly, I also think as I posted a while back on here that part of our long historical problem with professional sports here is our proximity to Houston. People here with discretionary income to spend going to sporting events may be inclined to spend more to go to places like Minute Maid/Toyota Center/ Reliant Stadium and see the big boys play.

Thirdly, while media coverage has been better this year, some areas still lack sometimes in my opinion. Its no secret a certain sports editor of a newspaper in Port Arthur does not like hockey and said paper has not done even one article about the team this year. And while the TV stations have been better about reporting the team, why cant we get a live shot from the arena before the game that night during the 5 or 6pm news?? For a 730pm start on Friday the team doesnt take the ice for warm-ups until 645 so how about it??
