  1. I would like to see if there would be any interest in a tournament for 14U and 16U players after HS play is completed.  The tournament would not be affiliated with any particular organization or league, but would be hosted at the Nederland Babe Ruth Park in Nederland, TX.  The field is a regulation size (60/90) field with outfield fences at 285-300 feet.  14U would play in one division and 16U in a seperate division.  Looking at trying to do this after high school season is complete.  This would be a good tune up for any summer select teams wanting to get their players together before summer leagues/showcases begin.
  2. Check out the USSSA Elite 32 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney in FL... Top 32 Major division teams in USSSA from across the country.  These pitchers know how to hold runners on and thus help thier catchers throw runners out at all three bases.  Not near as much stealing going on there.  It's really something to watch... these young kids being professionally coached in the entire game.  You mentioned "fundamentals"... this is all good, but how about teaching the "fundamentals" of the ENTIRE game.  Properly executing an infield double cut... every player knowing where he needs to be at all times.. this includes pitchers backing up throws from the outfield instead of just watching the action.  Isn't it "fundamental" in the high school level and beyond for catchers/infielders to be able to execute different plays in a first and third situation?  Little league doesn't teach this.  I agree... you don't see this top level at a normal weekend at Ford Park.  Go to a USSSA Super NIT and see the difference in play.. pretty impressive.
  3. One good thing about USSSA at Ford Park is that you will have Super NIT's which allow for much better competion... teams from all over the country will come to play in these big tourneys.  We played in a Major Division Super NIT last spring and I think the farthest a team traveled to play was from Nebraska... these are serious teams when they're willing to travel that far to play... and you could tell... They were the real deal!
  4. The Blues in USSSA arent going to take the time to check bats... Half the time they call games in so many leagues and organizations that they can't even keep up with the rules and regs for the tournament they are calling on any given day... Just my observations... and most of the coaches of these teams don't give a darn about a sticker on a bat... They just want to play baseball.... It's not like a sticker on a bat is going to make a kid any better or worse of a hitter... If you're playing at BLD the fences are 400 feet deep and about 40 feet tall anyway... aint no kid i know gonna hit one over that... sticker or not!
  5. My kid has a class with one of the released... Said when one of the teachers asked him why he was out so early the boy told her that his parents had filed a lawsuit.. Said the teacher quickly egressed this conversation.. Smart move teacher..... All I'm saying is that if a 16-17 year old boy has to obtain a lawyer in order to get back onto the high school playing field, something ain't right. MHO
  6. @PNG.... I wasn't complaining last yearand I'm not complaining this year. I was simply making an observation last year and making a suggestion to keep people from complaining.  We competed last season with the kids we had... were #1 seed going into the end of year tournament.  So I don't really care about playing against "select" or "all-star" teams... IMO, I'd rather my kids play against better competetion... forces them to deal with adversity and play up to a higher level.  Just making myself clear partner.
  7. Can't we all just get along?????  ;D  JT... As a former league president, I know what you are going through.  Not everyone will be happy all of the time.  But you have done the best you can and made an honest attempt at putting these teams together as fairly and equal as possible while still satisfying a geographical convenience for everyone.  Now lets move on and PLAY BALL!!!  ;D
