"Three" AP Top Ten Ranked 4A Teams Lose
badndn replied to TexAgNDN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Callalen's loss to Flour Bluff wass no fluke. Flour Bluff should have had more respect from the pollsters before this win. They are now 7-1 with the only loss being the season opener to a good 5A Houston Lamar team. They have blown just about everyone else out. Abilene Cooper was a 5A power for years that just dropped to 4A. Kerville Tivy has been a 4A playoff regular for years. -
I am more concerned with Mountaineers, Paladins, Spiders and Grizzlies. Can you name which schools I am referring to? All four have been FCS powers over the years...
App. State, Furman, Richmond and Montana. Are you really so self indulged that you believe you are the all knowing of all things football? What a douche.

I thought Lumberton did a good job early of containing Harmon, but they couldn't stop the PNG passing game. Then late in the half and into the second half Harmon was getting big yardage. There were some big hits tonight. Especially from the NDN's. Hence all the fumbles by Lumberton. Good Luck Raiders the rest of the way.

#11 PN-G At Lumberton Predictions?
Outsider with no dog in this game having seen both play this may be a nail biter.Raiders are backed in a corner and will give PNG all they want and some.Still nobody has beat them soundly-all 3 losses were close. If they can play without many miscues on offense they could sneak in a win in their house.Every week there is some upsets and this may be one.Look for Lumberton to lay it all out there and play good defense again w/gang tackling.Indians will be tested in the secondary if they can't contain the QB who can scramble and throw strikes on the run as good as I've seen in awhile.
This is what has hurt us most this year. Teams with a dual threat QB. Viverette at BH was able to move the chains. The kid from TC in the second half started to scrable and moved the chains. Gonzalez from LCM did the same. -
Who doesn't have 8 sophomores on Varsity. ;D We are in the same boat.
Im curious about that as well. My observation is based on reviewing the rosters of the teams we have played. Lumberton has 8 with 4 starting. Of the teams we have played I have not noticed that number to be as high. Since Dayton and Lumberton are relatively smaller 4A schools that may be the norm.
PNG had no sophomores on Varsity before last week. Against Vidor a Sophomore was brought up to backup the LT and the LT got hurt on the first play of the game. The young man went in and did a great job. This week a secon Sophomore was brought up for the Lumberton game. Lumberton's JV QB (#3) has a very good arm and nice mechanic's (left hander). He stood tall in the pocket, didn't look skitsish. We were all impressed. Is he a Sophomore?
Lumberton is finished. PNG will be the district champs. We probably wont cross midfield. PNG is too big and talented and their coaching staff is top notch. We can only hope to keep it from being a blowout. ;)
Sounds like us last year! We are no body, pay us no mind, yadda, yadda, yadda. :D -

No one is moving up or down. Smallest school last time was Lumberton just over 1050 and we all know that they have increased in size. Largest school was Central and thyey were a long way from being above 2000. -

Some 4A schools that possibly goes down to 3A
badndn replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Now that would make sense. I posted about this on the other thread, but if you have a half dozen or so Houston ISD plus other area schools (Lamarque, El Campo) droping to 3A to form a 7 to 8 team 3A Houston district, that makes sense. Same with Dallas. -
I don't see either of the Dallas schools or FW school droping because of the travel costs to play other 3A schools which are a good ways out of town. Maybe the same for Lamarque. Think about it, where is the nearest 3A district to Lamarque? For a struggling ISD more travel is not a good thing. You don't have to drop. You can petition to remain up.

I don't think anyone from PNG that went to the game last year will be taking Lumberton lightly. If you recall in that game last year we (PNG) were in the same position that Lumberton is in now. We had won our first 3 games and then lost 3 in a row (all close) and gave a good Lumberton all they could handle for 4 1/2 quarters (OT). So those of us with any memory know that this is Lumbertons season on the line and they will go down swinging just like we did last year. -
It ain't just the inner city teams, it is primarily the GT area 4A and 5A. PNG in 1999 got no love at all. I think it is because of how long it has been since we (the GT) have won a state tittle. We are just not on the big stage enough. I bet if Stowers stayed at Central after last season you guys would have been ranked pre season and maybe now as well. The unknown of the new coach?

How will 20-4a look next year?
badndn replied to ozenfreshman's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think we end up with a 7 team district. I personnaly hope that we (PNG) can fill that extra non-district with either Memorial or WOS. Love to rekindle some rivalries, sort of. -

Ozen Panthers Overachievers or Real Deal?

They have always had great individual athletes, so it sounds like this staff is reigning in those athletes to play as a team. Could be scary down the road. -

badndn replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Heres the difference in GT and Vidor. Georgia Tech has some of the best athletes in the nation. They can stick to what they do against the big time programs because they have identical talent. Vidor on the other hand does not have the talent to just run against 10 and 11 in the box against the likes of Angleton, Dayton, Friendswood, or even PNG fot that matter. and before you start screamin' about the talent comment, don't forget PNG tried to cram the ball down your throat for years and always found out how difficult it was against the more talented teams outside of 20 4A. The only year that we broke through was 1999 and we were a much more diverse offense that year. -

badndn replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
you know back during the pre-district season, I said several times that Vidor's schedule would hurt them because playing those cupcake Private schools and a middle of the pack 3A was not going to help them expose there weeknesses before district. Just as I said then you don't want to find out in district because it could be too late to adjust. I think this is what Vidor is finding out now. You have to throw a little to beat the big boys in the playoffs. Is it too late to adjust?? We will see, but I can't see Vidor going more than one round deep in the playoffs unless the do adjust a little. And that depends on who they get out of 19 4A. I know PNG learned alot about themselves and where they needed work after hard fought battles with BH and TC. Just one outsiders opinion. Maybe next year Mathews will step it up a bit pre-district. -
He is not a power guy in the mold of Hemmings or Cook (previous PNG backs), but he runs tuff. He also has good cut back ability and has alot more speed than I originally thought he did. He has run away from many a DB this year. He is a downhill runner, hits the hole quick and almost always falls forward. He is not a scatback. Goes about 5'9" 195 to 200. Runs low.

Hey no disrespect, but to go from winning 1 game to a possible undefeated season is remarkable! I'm just sayin! ;D We won 3 games last year, not 1. Normally you are correct, but 2 things most people forgot. 1. PNG in 2007 was 8-4 and lost to eventual state champs Lamar Consolidated and the great Quiz Rogers in a very good battle. Last year we lost, but were in every game. So the talent was there! 2. 1988 PNG 1-9 1989 new coach 12-2. We have seen it before. -

Thanks LR. We are very proud of the new digs. Best in the GT, at least until the BISD site is complete. That place will be beautiful. As for predictions...I predict both teams play 48 minutes!
