Oregon probably was just to expensive to gamble on PT down the road. Also I understand that his GF was going to school up there and was ready to come home as well.  Oregon is a long way from SETX both geographically and socially. Weird place!

Knight didn't go out and recruit Doty. Doty approached him. The difference in Bray etc. is that he is currently on a roster and can't be brought in until next season. Doty will practice ASAP and could actually play now if he is needed. As Knight said, no harm no foul if the young man can play and help the team, if not then so be it. It didn't cost you anything to find out! My assesment from the little I saw Doty play BBall is that he can shoot, handles the ball well (not flashy) and is a good defender. Makes good decisions as well. He may or may not play much for LU, but it is worth a shot.

You keep implying that Doty didn't have any offers...Do you know this for sure? He had one offer I know of for sure. And 1-9 is 1-9 don't matter if its 1A or 5A, it sucks!!! Not sure exactly what the debate is. If it is that Doty is better than Long or vise versa the answer is moot. Long led his team to a Title game, but I will say that Long had a couple of advantages over Doty. He was sleeping under the same roof as the OC  ;D and he had very good defenses. As far as arm strength which is what I believe I said to begin with, I still say Doty had more zip on the ball and was just as accurate, but that's just one mans oppinion.

Mcneal started the week after the OU game and Long never saw the field again. That was Slocums call. End of discussion! And the twin brothers (Colburn twins) were not there Longs senior season. They graduated the year before. Longs targets that senior year were Baxter, Norton, Price (a Jr) and Lumley. Point being he had a few offers, but no D1 until the SF game. I think everyone that reads this board new the message I was conveying when I pointed out the lack of recruiting for two HOFers and a future HOFer. Lots of excellent talent is under recruited each year, just as lots of talent is over recruited each year (see G. Gilbert)! So yes in that regards (being under recruited) I was comparing Brennan Doty to those HOFers. LOL at that.  ;D

Exactly the problem. The few big men with real game are not going to LU!!! If you are going to win in the SLC you need good gaurd play! And if you are going to upset someone in the tourney you are going to do that out on the perimiter. A dominant Big in the SLC will get shutdown by the bigs playing for 1, 2 and 3 seeds, but you can get creative with a 6'5" scoring threat from anywhere on the court and beat a 1, 2, or 3 seed.

I wonder if he has gotten the response outta his players this week in practice that he would hope to get after that statement. As someone said to me as they left the arena early Saturday "Looks like Roc's team showed up!"

Yes he was offerred a preferred walk-on at Oregon and took a chance there. However, the talk of comparison's between him and Dustin Long are laugable. Dustin Long signed with Texas A&M and still owns the record for most TD passes in a single game. He started several games but he had a jack___ as a Head Coach in Franchione who went with Reggie McNeil. Great move on the Head Coach's part and lead to his firing for choosing the wrong QB. So Long transferred to SHSU for basically a semester and played for them leading the team to the FCS semifinals his only season in Huntsville. He transferred back to Texas A&M and graduated. It was RC Slocum that made that call in the OU game Dustin's Sophomore year / McNeal's true fresh year. That was just a few games after Long threw for 6 TDs against TT. Franchionne talked Long into staying his Junior season and decided to go with McNeal from day one of the season. McNeal was not Frans prized recruit he was Slocums! As far as who offered who? Nobody local (Texas) offered Drew Brees outta HS either does that mean he was crap? Walter Payton only got one offer outta HS and Jerry Rice went to a little ole school in Mississippi, they must have been crap. I could go on and on with this and you know it. And as far as that matters Long didn't have any big offers his senior season either up until that Semi-Final Game in front of the A&M coaches at Kyle Field. These two young QB's were both outstanding and brought different things to the table. They both had stellar HS careers and will forever be linked as two of the best to ever sling it from PNG.

What we need is the 6'4" to 6'6" kid that can score from anywhere on the court. We haven't had that since Daniels left. Those guys are go to guys that can get a shot off in crunch time. See Patrick Richard and Lamarcus Reed! We obviously don't have anyone to matchup with those types of players and we don't have a go to. Davis is a spot up shooter and thats it. Harper and Nelson have no outside game.

In the last minute LU: 1. Was called for a lane violation on LU FT's (might have been outside of a minute) 2. Missed two FT's 3. Got trapped on inbounds and didn't call TO (had 3 left), tried to dribble out? This was after a TO. 4. Allowed MSU to get a rebound after a missed FT that would have given MSU a 1 point lead. CHOKED! No other word for it. The 3 pointer made by Richard to win it was about 5 feet from beyond the arc and he had a hand in his face. Just made a big shot at the end. There top player took over inside of a minute and led them to the W! Ours didn't? Not sure who that is?

Parking is much better at PNG now with the new parking lots, still not perfect, but much improved. With the 75K Salary they are held to, the BISD will have to get an upstart. No established coach at a 4A or 5A school will take the WB job since most are making more than 75K. So who are the top assistants in the state? Anyone they can lure?

Gonzo at Safety makes a lot of sense. He is quick and smart. At QB it didn't make as much sense. Excellent HS football player, but not a D1 QB. Sonnier will provide depth at a position sorely needed when running the spread.

So for me and since it looks like we will get 4 pre-districts this year and WOS may be the only available week 3, Id like in this order Week 0 Brenham (I'm sure they will reload as usual) Week 1 TxCity or Crosby (both quality 4A with good skill position returning) Week 2 PAM (Step down from 2011 PAM, but still good test) Week 3 WOS (Will be very good next couple years...State title good)

Jayce ran a 4.5 flat at one of those college combines this past summer. And yes the thing that I saw him do this year that really impressed me was blocking downfield. On Bertrands 60 yarder against Crosby, Jayce drove his man out of the play about 20 yards downfield to allow Chase to punch it in. Thats good stuff. He reminds me of the Shipleys!

Unfrotunately the two four year starters (Miles and Harper)looked like they were in over there heads, which was dissapointing after they started the season so well. Any contribution from either of them last night and this could have been a 10 point game. Kentucky is big and loaded.
