1. Very impressed with what I saw in the second half. First half looked like a young team that got caught with the first game jitters. Played a little scared early on, but settled down and played very good basketball against a very good opponent in the second half. If Rhon Mitchell, Donley Minor and Stan Brown can play with the second half intensity that they displayed last night, this team will compete well in the SLC this season. Still need a center that can score inside of course there are many mid to low majors with this problem. Minor appears to be a very good leader on the court. Having a Freshman PG will create some problems, but Blanks can play and Minton handled the ball better last night. Hopefully Minor can help them grow.
2. Good Luck BC. Congrats on qualifying for the Texas HS Football playoffs. For all your hard work you get Coldspring round one and if you get by them, you get LaMarque round 2. OUCH!!! Guess it had to be somebody and coulda been OF so you'll accept the challenge.
3. Neuman will win 20-4A COY and Mathews will be 1st runner up, but they were supposed to win with good returning talent. Babin is overall Golden Triangle COY.
4. Nederland forced Mathews to call 16 passing plays, that's why they won. 5 of 16 for 60 yards is 3.8 yards per play which is well below the 10 yards per carry Q averaged on the ground most games. All told they held him to less than 5 yards per play. Montana will win one of the two awards. The QB from PA or Reed from Silsbee could win offense, but they're both Juniors. Someone from that WOS defense will have a say in that award as will the Ned secondary (who had all the picks).
5. A very good football team will be one and done after round one! I have said for several years that the Vidor offense is a great equalizer against many smaller 4A's, but the larger schools with D1 talent all over the field will stuff it, so you gotta be balanced come playoff time. I ask again when was the last time you seen a misdirection running attack win a 4A or 5A state title? So unfortunately for the Pirates, they meet that big fast team in round 1 this year. And to top it all off they have to play them in their own backyard! Good luck Pirates. Tall order, even though I expect an SC win, this Indian fan will be rooting for the Pirates.
6. Are you whining 87? Nederlands JV losing two district games because of injury or because of players moving on to Varsity?? Didn't hear any whining from PNG when the starting JV QB moved on to Varsity after week one. Or when the starting WR/DB/utility moved on to Varsity last week. Or when the starting Tailback hurt his knee and missed the last 3+ games or when the other starting WR/DB was injured and missed the Liv game or when the starting MLB and Safety moved up to Varsity. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is the PNG JV worked through it all and won a share of the DC last night. JOB WELL DONE!
7. Actually since he is only a Junior this year, if he went to A&M and red shirted (just like JFF did) he would only be Johnny Footballs backup for one year.
8. Very well could see a matchup of four of the top 20 teams in round 1!
9.
Smith did start but Walker is supposed to be back this week. Faircloth played alot of underclassmen against Ozen. Caleb Sparks (soph) and a freshman linebacker. The freshman QB is not on varsity. Don't really know if he wants to play D but probably will because Walker will start at QB for the next 2 years.
You know this for sure? Walker has proven his worth at another position of need (DB) and could be a big help at WR also. If you havent seen Morse you don't know. My money is on Morse at QB with Walker at WR/Wildcat/RB/Jack of all trades!
10. RDRSCR08 6A doesn't mean anything. 6A is only going to be todays 5A. Lumberton will be 5A in the new scenario. They aren't changing the enrollment numbers for each classification, just changed 6 man to 1A and moved everyone else up one level. Crap! Also Lumberton youth football runs a totally different offense from HS. PNG, Vidor and Ned all run a scaled back variation of their HS offenses. Just pointing it out. I think it shows in Vidor since those kids been doing it now since peewee. I suspect we will see PNG have more success as those youth move through the program as well.
11. Neuman is on that $100k list. Allman was lured away from his alma mater and one of the most distinguished programs in the country in Odessa Permian where he had turned them back into a 5A power. Austin Westlake gave him $125K and he led the to state title game year 1 while Permian has dropped back into the pack. Musta been the coaching. And the money!
12. So do we get the second pick in the draft next year?:)

If i was a team mate, I'd be pissed he quit on me now and not after the season! >:(
Just like you will never hear Jeremy Johnsons name again unless you read the school newspaper.  Not sure if a school will take a chance on either
May be true, but at least JJ doesn't have a Criminal Record!
14. Try LoneStarFootball.net. They are fairly accurate going back to the golden ages.
15.
Guys, they played SAM...It seems they played a strong 1st qtr...sounds like they lack conditioning... And a lil discipline...if Woodard stays, the smart thing would be to scrub out the coaching staff...see who really fits and COACHES well(anyone can where the title of a coach) with his scheme.  Then u have to double check ur roster....with the classroom performance, and find some disciplined ball game players...not practice studs, not the 6-7 300lb OL kid that breaks all the rules, but the 6-0 280 beast that prays for the DL before each game...and wants to play when he's hurt, but knows when he's injured...the warrior...the Marine...the true Cardinal!
I love this line....Great post! How's your son doing this year?
16. What you wanna bet you never hear his name again. At least not in a positive light. If i was a team mate, I'd be pissed he quit on me now and not after the season! >:(
17.

If a team is throwing the ball with a big lead that is running up the score, but if a team is running the ball and still scoring, then the other team needs to learn how to tackle ;)
I agree with this, I know some people in the surrounding area were upset about the Vidor/Lumb score because it was so high.  However, Vidor wasn't out to keep the score running up out of spite or anything else.  When you put 2nd and 3rd string in and they run the ball and continue to score because the opposing team just can't tackle what are you supposed to do??  Kneel at the 1 yard line and give the ball to the opposing team?
Ned had a chance to score again with the backups against Ozen at the end of the game,  we kneeled on the 3 yard line to end the game.
At the end of a game thats OK (still demoralizing, but ok), but to do that in the 3rd quarter is totaly humiliating to the battered opposition. Playing backups in a blowout is standard, but I would never ask those kids that don't get to play often to take it easy when they do get in....Let 'em get after it for the most part.
18. Out of male Luncefords. Still a few more female athletes though.
19. Should be an interesting matchup. I'll take Vidor
20. Is there really a need for this thread? :) Biggest question here is will Nederland come out injury free. Late season injuries tend to happen in games like these for some reason. Hope Ned stays healthy for the playoffs.
21. In Port Arthur it was the Charles family. Not just the Shanderick/Jamaal duo. There were many others through the years.
22. Now I agree fully that Vidor not being top 25 in the DC poll is ridiculous. It'll all was out in the end.
23. Summer Creek is undefeated and has beaten everyone by a margin of 40 points (avg 52 to 12) ouch. I would suspect they would be higher ranked than Vidor at this point, but both teams suffer from the same issue...They havent really beaten any good teams (SC beat Crosby which is probably there best win).
24.
Still a lot of things that can happen, but IMO the 4 playoff teams all won tonight.
Hard to argue that statement.
25.

Brad,Brad,Brad, call a spade a spade! They don't hit in practice and they have not since Faircloth has been there. He likes to make High School practice look like it's college or the pros. These kids are still trying to learn how to tackle. You must hit in practice! Offense is fancy and all but you must be able to play defense. Faircloth has proven nothing! PNG will never again have as much talent as they had his first year. The first 2 years he was loaded with talent. You cant win without a defense. Anyone that has coached or know these kids know that a power running game would benefit this group more than anything else. They do not have the skill player's to run this offense. Good coaches have to adjust to his talent just ask Larry Neumann. Faircloth bases everything on speed, there is some really good football player's on the bench but their not as fast as others but they will knock the piss out of you! Faircloth is more of a political guy than he is a coach. H e says what the parents and board members wants to hear. His defensive scheme is horrible!
I don't know if I agree completely on the talent thing. Sophmores, Freshman and 8th grade has some premier players. Kenell from the eighth grade has potential to play on varsity next year, although I don't know if he will, because he is one of those once in along time players that goes thru a program. Ask any of the coaches in our district.
And Adam Morse may be the best Freshman passing QB I have seen...Ever. Not to mention his WR's catch everything which is unusual for Fish. If you havent seen our underclassmen then you cant really make a statement about 'em Mike. You need to come out and watch the Fish and JV. You WILL be impressed.
