  1. One of the biggest hits I ever saw in person was in a playoff game between Hemphill and Mart in 2000.  A HUGE Hemph lineman picked up a fumble and evidently figured he was going to ramble for a TD.  Quan Cosby had different ideas as he came in like a fricken scud missle and knocked this fella head over heels.  It was very much like Quan's hit on that poor OU player on Jordan Shipley's run and catch during last weeks Texas - OU game.

  2. Coach Hall has done a tremendous job for the Hornets. As far as not expecting much from Hemphill, that's been the case ever since Coach took over...people having low expectations year in and year out.  But he silenced the critics by making the playoffs 3 straight years...which included an undefeated district championship run in 2005.

For the past 10 years, the Hemphill has put out a quality product--coming close to capturing the class 2A State Championship in 2001--only to drop a controversial decision to Blanco in the semi-finals by the score of 28 - 27.

Although a bit unmanned this season, expect a hard fought contest this Friday night in Kirbyville. These kids play with a great deal of heart and will battle 'til the end.

For most here, the outcome of the game has already been determined.  Good luck to both teams.

  3. Class 2A Region 3 is definately the toughest in the state--Kirbyville, Newton, Arp, Elysian Fields to anme a few--State Champion in both D1 and D2 more than likely comes of of this region..

As far as comparing District 22 and 23---right on about top teams in 22A--kirby and newton...followed by San Augustine, Woodville, Hemphill, and Shelbyville...

Not sure how 23 will play out--long way to go--on any given night the supposed underdog can come out victorious..which has happened in the first 2 weeks of district play---

The best thing for District 23AA is they won't have to play openeing round of playoffs against District 22AA....Bye for all teams in 23AA first round....

Just think how tough 22AA would be if Corrigan was still in this district...looking like Kirbyville and Corrigan first round matchup...

  4. Although Hemphill fell a bit short in their district opener, I'm proud of how the Hornets played against San Augustine.  This group of kids gave their all and played with a tremendous amount of heart.  Coach Hall has done a tremendous job the past few years and the young men that go through his program are the better for it.  Good Luck Hornets.  Better days are on the horizon.

As for Kirbyville, Coach Alvarez runs a quality program.  Good Luck to the Wildcats as they continue their quest for that coveted 'STATE CHAMPIONSHIP'.
