  1. Assuming Todd Dodge is still in Denton, would North Texas travel to Southeast Texas?  More like us going to Denton.......UNT must be financially strapped if they're playing road games at Kansas St. and LSU.  But Riley Dodge will be fun to watch.

Financially strapped?  Not really.  But the extra cash does come it handy.  It allows a program like North Texas to bring well known programs to teh home field.  North Texas will host Kansas State next year in Denton.  Most non-BCS programs play one or two recognized BSC teams for that possible upset, like ULM upsetting Alabama, or Troy beating Oklahoma State.  NT also has a multi game series with Army coming up in a few years.

NT was supposed to play Univ. of Miami (Florida) this season for something like $400,000.  LSU came along and offered NT $850,000.  What would you do?  Tough to pass up.  NT's goal is to only play one "money" game a year like most non-BCS programs.

For Lamar to host a FBS program in Beaumont, they have to come up with some serious money.  I doubt even a North Texas would come to Beaumont for less than $150,000 to $200,000.

Factoid:  Did you know that North Texas hosted Florida State in Denton back in 1974 I believe.  NT lost by one point in six inches of snow!

I certainly wasn't dissin' UNT, so relax and get off the soapbox.  The secondary will not get shredded this season, hopefully.
  2. There will be a great turnout. I've heard of five young men from one HS who graduated the same year talking about walking on. Their HS team made the playoffs.

There is no direct correlation.  Use academia for an example.  Does being in the top 10% of your graduating class mean that you will make the Dean's list every semester?  What if someone is in the bottom 25% of their class.  This doesn't guarantee unsatisfactory results at the college level.  The below average student in grades 9-12 could graduate from college in four years and go to law school.

I just felt like arguing about something.  Give TT a breather!

I only made mention of the one school because there has been discussion about a lack of information for young men interested in walking on to the football team. Obviously, the word is getting out. Of the five young men, only one received a scholarhip offer to my knowledge. So, I wasn't thinking they were blue chip prospects. I just think they are young men looking for an opportunity.

Look at SAT scores.  It should be noted that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weiss scored a perfect 1600 on his SAT. (2400 scale now?)  The Irish were terrible last year.

  4. I've never heard of an FBS school playing at an FCS.  One guy called in on Bob West's show with Coach Woodard and wanted to "bring in Miami, Oklahoma, bring em' all into Beaumont and lets get it goin' now."  Woodard chuckled a little bit, because it likely will never happen but it's not impossible.  What if Billy Tubbs worked some magic to get Stoops & Co. down to Beaumont?  It would be unprecedented.  There's another pipe dream.

  5. I guess you are correct. Anyone know when the public meeting of Coach Woodard is? After that gathering we should have a lot more football talk on the forum.

As for the coach staff my OPINION is to have a mix of high school coaching and men with college coaching experience.

Four men I'd love Lamar to visit are 1. Craig Stump 2. Coach Long 3. Coach Peirce 4. Coach Foreman.

WOS is losing students at about the same rate that Charles Barkley loses $$$ in Vegas.  Pearce (or Peirce?) and Foreman would do fine at Lamar.  Particularly Toby as WR coach, and up the ladder.  Don't forget Coach Crouch and Coach Thompson.  They aren't too old, as some will argue.  They can coach.

  6. I agree.  It would be totally unfair to expect Ray Woodard to win the Southland Conference and race through the playoffs in year one.  By the third year LU should win the Southland.  This is, of course, based on an expectation of staying FCS, not FBS.  Ray Woodard could be the architect of a great football dynasty.  Or Lamar might be mediocre for six or eight seasons.  We can't  predict how these things turn out.

  7. Insiders close to the Navarro athletic community are saying that Woodard has unofficially been hired.  These people are either former Beaumont residents or friends of Lamar boosters.  BT has done an excellent job of leaving the fans in suspense.  I'm disappointed in the apathetic media coverage.  If you watch sports at 10:20pm, you'll be lucky to hear something on LU football.

  8. I wasn't trying to start be argumentative.  "So you know the number of donors?", said UNLV.  What kind of question is that?

This is what you said, "I just don't see enough money from private donors for a new stadium". To make this statement, you must know

who and how much Lamar is getting in donations.

I don't have any tangible evidence.  It's just speculation, a wild guess.  But you're right, I don't know.
