1. Wow is all I can say.  Just because a guys around for 30+ years we are suppose to forget the fact he blamed the players for the loss.  Kids are gonna make mistakes they are human but don't throw them under the bus when it was very obvious the play caller clearly didn't have his act together so therefore it's going to cause the players to look as though they don't know what they are doing.  I don't recall him being "thrown under the bus" on public radio. Just sayin'
2. Just an FYI....Coach Toby Foreman is not the OC at Texas High.  He left for a lesser position.
3. It will be interesting to see how the 1st season under Coach T plays out.  Good luck to the players.
4.

well I guess my son won't be playing next year because I think Landry is a smart butt.  Anyone who calls the kids "f(*&ing punks" and doesn't care that he says it in front of a parent deserves and gets no respect from me!
Shea is a outstanding young man and will do well. Great move by Coach T. The kids will love him, I do. As for you queen, if in fact that did happen which I doubt your son probably deserved it pretty much like you.
Word on the street is this was not a Coach T move but rather Mr. Colbert.....hmmm....who's in charge here. ;)  Good luck WOS Baseball
5. If the right choice is not made then WOS althgether will not be the same.  LCM and Coach Crouch could be your next football powerhouse in SETX and the enrollment at LCM could jump way up, but more importantly those who already question Colbert's motivates will know for sure what his agenda is and will be for the future.  This could be a turning point for his future as the super as well.  Just sayin  ::)
6. Everyone will have their opinions on who should get the job and can and will give there reasons, good and bad, but what really matters is the students and how this will affect them.  The athletic program as a whole has gone through many trials this year with the death of Reggie Garrett and many others.  The athletes and coaches have stuck together and made it through these many trials.  It would be a tragedy to bring in an outsider who didn't cry and grieve along with these young men and women throught-out this school year.  So in saying that I do feel that hiring from within is the best and only option for WOS.  However, hiring the most qualified person from within is just as important.  I do agree changes need to be made in the whole program and who better to do it than someone who sees it all first hand.  I feel that Dr. Colbert already knows what changes need to be made and no matter who is hired will make sure those changes happen.  WOS football has always been known for their discipline, I think this needs to be spread to the other sports in the program then other sports may see the kind of success football has had for many years.  Who better to make that happen than the one responisble for the discipline in the football program.  Yes that would be Coach Thompson.  I am not here to campaign for him because he doesn't need that, his credentials and character speak for themself.  I hope that the committee Dr. Colbert has put together doesn't treat this as a political race but rather the "right choice" for WOS athletics.  Coach T 112%
7. Totally agree!!!  Coach T would to the best job and definately has what it takes to grab the reigns and continue the winning tradition.  It's been his "chain gang" defense that has made the team a success all these years.  With him in charge he can make it happen on both sides of the ball.
8. The board's job will only be to approve who the super recommends.  The decision is up to the the super and maybe even the high school principal.  This decision is a huge one for the super because it could affect what the WOS community feels about him after it is all said and done.  Coach T is the best man for the job.  Not only is he a great coach but he is a respected man. Not just because of his many years of coaching, but because of his morals, standards and ethics and he enstills in his players more than just the game of football.  He teaches them disicpline and self-discipline which is something that many teenagers/adults do not have today.  If the new super wants to have a man who will be not only a good example for the young men and women who will come through WOS athletics but also someone who will be respected as the Athletic Director in the community, Coach T is the MAN for the job.  It will be a sad day in "mustang country" if another gets the job.  Although academics is important in every school, athletics is needed to motivate some students to achieve. So the importance of athletics cannot be put aside when making this decision.  I do agree the super needs to listen to the community as long as its the true facts coming from true mustang fans. Good luck Coach T!!
9.

Great things to come the next several years!
Next several years?? I'll give you next year for sure, but not several. Less you forget this score this year: WOS 9th      0 Silsbee 9th  48 Silsbee 9th undefeated district champs.
Let's be sensible here.  The only reason the 9th grade team lost was most of the team played up on JV.  Next year add in the incoming Freshman, who are undefeated as 8th graders and Silsbee doesn't stand a chance.  Nice try though. :)
10. I will have to say after watching the LCM game last week after halftime when the Mustangs showed up at Battlin' Bear Stadium did more than just give the bears encouragement, it boosted them to really give it all they had.  The Mustangs have a lot to play for and I know that this week they will give 112%.  Even when all odds are against them, never count them out.  GO MUSTANGS!!!
11. If Franks isnt going to OU then why is he there this weekend for a visit.  Whoever started this thread was misinformed.
12. Well, I do hate to see good teams get beat, but lets face it in a 13 inning game, they had 13 chances to make the outcome different.
13. Lets see why would a school teacher in Houston care about our transportation issue? Well anyway atleast your not one of those very out of touch with reality and very USELESS board members! I don't think that anyone argues that WOS is one of the few schools that gets bussed from activities, but we are saying that this is a need here and has been a need for some time! Whose fault is it that these kids aren't prepared to take these tests? How many times have some of these campuses been unacceptable? What personnel changes have been made at these unacceptable campuses? Who is held accountable? What is going on here has very little to do with anthing else but a few childlike board members with personal issues with certain people in the district and they are using what LITTLE power they have to get back at these people! wosUTRICEalum, It does bother me that you don't think a parent should be concerned about the safety of their child and only the education. Lets see here you call yourself wosUTRICEalum, I think one of our board members is a UT and RICE alum! I will say this wosUTRICEalum you are a I do think that you should be thankful that you are teaching in Houston and not one of those Pathetic people that call themselves caring about the future of our kids and district! Lets see isn't it the duty of a board member to keep the district out of debt? How did WOS get to be all the sudden get in 2.8 million dollars of debt? Who is responsible for that? Who is being held accountable? You can't blame everything on the kids or Coach Hooks! As a matter of fact if Coach Hooks would have only won 30% of his games like some of WOS schools passing 30% of the TAKS, then he would be fired! Who is held accountable by these genius board members? wosUTRICEalum just remember this, what happens in the dark will come to the light! Coop thinks it is the best post. Can't be with the accusation of this poster being a board member. wosUTRICEalum works for the Galena Park school district, this is fact. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS POST!!! There are intelligent people who post on here.
14. I do agree with the end of this statement that even low SES district can succeed and be exemplary. I think the WOS school board needs to get out of the board room and into the schools and see exactly what kind of teaching and learning is going on at the middle and high schools and quit blaming, pointing fingers and trying to find more ways to punish their kids for not being successful. Instead they should be finding positive ways to motivate them. As far as the bussing issue, each school district is ran differently and has different needs. Whether or not any other school provides rides home for students from extracurricular activities is irrelevant. Any one could think of a million reasons why WOS shouldn't bus their kids home, but what is comes down to is they have done it for many years and many families have counted on it. This obviously was a need that leaders years ago felt was vital for WOS and their students, so I think it should continue. As far as the district being in debt, that is the school boards job to look at what got them there and fix it or undo it. Taking away $16,000 for busing students won't solve the kind of debt problems they have.
15. LCM needs to find someone with varsity experience to take the lead as head football coach. However, they will still need to find someone who has good AD qualities as well. Just because someone is football minded or has been successful doesn't mean they have that good balance of both qualities. I think we have already seen that with Moody. As far as bringing in Burke, he has no varsity experience, they already been down that road with Moody as well. One name that has not been mentioned who is a hard worker on the staff, has lots of experience and the kids love and respect him is Coach Parsons. I say if they hire from within look at the assistants already at the varsity level, there are alot of qualified guys there who the kids respect and love. On another note if Crouch leaves WOS to go to LCM, I think he would do a great job and maybe bring some of that hard nose mentality over to LCM and make something happen. Good luck LCM in your search for and AD/HC!
16. LCM needs a hard nose coach who doesn't take any crap from anybody and who establishes respect in the beginning. Someone who can bring in a good work ethic and not expect anything less. Of course, this type of coach has to have the backing of the community and the people who hire him. Good luck LCM in finding a new leader, we need it.
17. really??? I guess we better call the LCM volleyball team who is sitting alone at the top of the district in 1st place and let them know. oh yeah, when we are done we better call Griff and warn him too. Its unfortunate jesusfreak that you don't know the whole story, but some coaches who have been coaching in the LCM athletic program, just don't get messed with. However, you still don't see Moody wearing and LCM girls volleyball t-shirt and sitting in the stands or and Battlin' Bear Baseball shirt and sitting in the dug-out. Just because some of the sports are successful doesn't mean a change doesn't need to happen, but everyone has the right to their own opinion.
18. Reading all the finger pointing makes me sad for the group of seniors who are having to hear all of this. Yes, LCM needs a new leader, not just head football coach. I know many of the coaches who have left since Moody came into town, and it seems that other things like appearance are more important than building a winning program. I don't know if that is what the school board had in mind when they hired him, but if it isn't that's all they got. I will agree with those who say that Coach Williams was a great athletic director. He had a few years of real football success and always kept LCM football competitive. However, the most important thing he had was respect. Respect from his athletes, both male and female, people in the community and most importantly the coaches who worked for him. I hope that for the sake of the future "bears", something will be done. This is not just a change that the football program needs, but the whole athletic program, because from what I hear all sports are suffering. Good luck bears in the rest of your season.
19. That is not what I meant. I know Griff very well and know that he pushes for his baseball players to play baseball year round. I don't have a problem with that and know that he has had baseball players, play football, basketball, soccer and track. I just don't think the pressure to choose should be there, let the kids make that decision.
20. I agree with you 77, LCM does a lot of pulling athletes toward one sport and doesn't want them to play more than one. That is crazy. I think that when you get athletes who have the ability to do it all, let them, it will only make your whole program better. Let the kids decide if they want to specialize in one sport, quit letting the coaches decide. There is to much of that going on within the LCM athletic program and it needs to stop before we lose all our athletes to other school where they can do that. They are only kids once and besides not all athletes that specializes in one sport will go on to play it in college, so why are they being told to choose.
21. Well since everyone else is sharing their thoughts on Moody, I figured I would give mine. I feel what it boils down to is Moody is not from here. He doesn't know southeast Texas football nor does he know how much football means to LCM fans. He is an outsider and the LCM school board should have never hired an outsider. There were plenty of qualified candidates from this area that could have brought some pride back to LCM football. I seriously don't think Moody knows how to lead those boys and/or how to be an effective athletic director. Bottom line is he needs to go before every player quits and every good coach left leaves. My hearts go out to the kids though who have to suffer from all of this, especially the seniors. I will continue to go to the games to support the kids, because they are what its all about.
22. Seems that you know alot about what goes on in the admin office stangchain. If my memory serves me correct those that are in charge should put others in charge that DO know what they are doing. If they care so much about academics and not so much about athletics then they need to make changes by getting rid of those people. Excuses won't be acceptable when TEA steps in and make those changes.
23. I will have to say I agree with students living in the WOS school district and attending LCM. However, I do know that LCM checks where students live, but when a parent, grandparent or guardian comes to the school and says they live with another relative who lives in the LCM district there is not much you can do. There are many ways to get around it, more than people think. WOS has to change their thinking from total athletics to more academics. That change will be made whether it is by the people in charge or by the state.
24. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Hallman have more experience that Rojas? That's another thing that makes this topic so interesting. Any way, I guess what is done is done, in the hiring part of it. I just hope Rojas does know as much as everyone says he does and not just the game of baseball. It takes a lot to manage a team, which is more that hitting lessons and calling pitches.
25. He got the job because he did well while finishing the season for the coach that left. He got the job because of Jessie Riojas. Believe what you want....he got the job because of the people he knew. There were two coaches who finished the season, not just him. Also they didn't do that well so what kind of creditability would that give to make him a good enough coach to be the head man in charge?
