1. We are in the process of posting a few dozen pics from the FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PRACTICE! [Hidden Content] Don't forget to follow the KFDM Tailgate Party Facebook Page today, we'll be uploading what we see at football practices, scrimmages, and games all season long! [Hidden Content] Mike Friedman will have more than 4:00 minutes of DAY ONE Footage and Sounds Bites tonight on KFDM 6 Sports at 6:00p.m.
2. Quick note: We tried to schedule several 20-4A games... the timing just wasn't right for KFDM to get involved. There are several conflicts with switching games to Saturday nights and getting approval from bands, booster clubs, superintendents, coaches, popcorn vendors... But talks for a full season schedule to include some of the schools we wanted to include this seaosn will begin as soon as re-districting happens next winter! It would, will be sweet to televise 20 different schools in a one season, 10-game schedule. - Lance Edwards, KFDM
3. Here is the schedule for Season 2 of Saturday Night Lights. August 27, 2011 7:00p.m. West Brook vs Ozen September 3, 2011 7:00p.m. Bridge City @ Vidor October 1, 2011 5:00p.m. - checking time Chester @ Orange Community Christian October 27, 2011  Thurs. 7:00p.m. Buna @ East Chambers Games KFDM tried to schedule were: PA Memorial and Alice (which is actually in Alice according the administration) Kelly vs. St. Thomas (can't move game because of homecoming festivities) We'd like to thank all coaches and schools involved. We can't wait to show a 6-man football game on live TV. Has to be the first time that's ever been done in SETX, if not the state. I'm guessing 77-72 will be the final!
4. You are correct that they switched back to a double elimination format... I will promise you the final game will be winner takes all and not a three game series! Good call, that's a lot of baseball for two weekends... UH looking solid, they get to lose to Rice again (what 22 out the last 25)??? Coach had a huge "come to Jesus" meeting with the Coogs, wouldn't let them into the clubhouse two weeks ago after game 1 loss to southern miss. Now they're on fire.
5. Everyone does realize that the Big 12 tournament is a round-robin style tournament. A team controls their destiny by going 3-0... but tie-breakers go to the highest seeded team in each bracket to determine who plays in the championship game. Sorry, I've seen "Baylor eliminated" - which is true, and then I saw someone post "Aggies get the winner of such and such" Big 12 designs it that way for cinderella 6/7 seeds to make the big dance each year, and also lets the top dogs control their own destiny for hosting super regionals/ regionals. Big Mizzou alumn, went to nearly 200 games in college (road, home, and every year to OKC)
6.
What they are proposing in Oklahoma is to allow the private schools in but at the next higher classification.  For example a Kelly (a 3A size school)  would be allowed into the UIL but would compete in Class 4A. This is their way of dealing with privates "recruiting"...
It's called a multiplier... so take your enrollment and multiply it by 2x.... or 2.5x
7. Some states are very liberal in the way they police their athletic leagues. Texas will be strict, the U.I.L. already has been with my high school. Joey Brooks plays basketball at Notre Dame, he was also part of the Strake Jesuit state final four run a few years ago. He attended St. Anne's Catholic School during his junior high years, so did his sister, who went to St. Agnes and later became a cheerleader at Mizzou. Their family chose a Catholic education, wrote checks for taxes as well as tuition for school. (mine did as well) Nobody can assume that Jesuit CP in Dallas, or St. Marks in Austin, or Strake Jesuit or St. Thomas in Houston are going to "RECRUIT" athletes only and then dominate in the U.I.L. The larger private schools DO IT RIGHT (education first, zero tolerance for no pass, no play) and if one can't recognize that, then there will always be this back-and-forth bickering. The schools, and I am biased toward them, that need TIGHT, TIGHT watch are the Humble Life Christian academies, and the Bay Area Christian Academies of the world... "the Oak Hill Academy(VA) types" who just bring kids in for the sake of creating a good basketball team. My post opens up at least a dozen different directions of arguments that I'm not going to type out right now, but if you believe in your school system, whether it be a public district, a diocese, or home school even, and you can measure the results and pinpoint success from that system, then that's all that really matters right? I love high school sports, because all that kid wants a chance to do is play against the kid on the other side of the field. Potentially that teen has a scholarship in mind. Slightly that kid will be making money playing sports one day. Parents and adults (not all of them) ruin the game every day and night. Over the years covering high school and college athletics, I've met some of the most gracious, humble parents, and some of the most stuck up individuals in the world. If you asked a kid at Southlake Carroll if they would like a chance to kick a kid's ass at Strake Jesuit in soccer, that kid would jump up and love it (happened at the final 4 this year) If you asked a Southlake Carroll parent (hypothetically) if they were ready to watch their kid's game against Strake Jesuit, chances are they would complain that SJ recruits, they shouldn't be in UIL, our kids are at a disadvantage, SJ doesn't deserve to be here. Again, most larger schools don't really care, but Mid-sized private schools would dominate basketball, baseball, golf, volleyball, tennis, and soccer if they were allowed to join Class 3A or 2A. I have faith in the State of Texas regulating the U.I.L. like they have all along, fairly.

10. Great quick read: [Hidden Content] Jay Bilas on Bobby Knight - "Guess the BYU job is out of the question for Coach Knight"
11. While at Mizzou working for KOMU TV, I once saw Bobby Knight go off on a student reporter... '06-07 season. The comment on Gameday Saturday was awesome... the TWEETS between Jay Bilas and Bob Knight are even better!

16. I'm looking for phone numbers for Little League baseball and softball presidents from all of Southeast Texas. KFDM plans on starting a series this spring (now practically) with Tee-Ball, coach pitch age boys and girls. I'm using this thread to compile all of the area LL's so nobody get's left off the list. This is fun coverage from KFDM, and the series is not going to promote winners and losers. We want to show how much FUN kids can have with a light natured series, not the 12 year olds that can throw 77mph AND hit 280ft bombs! We're looking to create a public forum to show off parent video and team mom pics on KFDM.com! Thanks for your cooperation! Lance Edwards KFDM.com Cell: 713-824-0938
17.

And check that, Strake has scheduled a home/away each year with Dallas Jesuit... so we kept two rivalries.
Plus you have Duke and UNC breathing down Rasheed's back. ;)
He's pretty solid, I'm thinking about going to watch them play Friday night, not sure yet. Who's your local squad Dove?
18. And check that, Strake has scheduled a home/away each year with Dallas Jesuit... so we kept two rivalries.
19. Strake Jesuit schedule (UIL Public school technically), a Catholic school that plays by public school rules because they are in the UIL, shows 22 games (19 played, 3 left), and two tournaments: [Hidden Content] I'm positive SJ has maxed out their schedule, which is why they don't play St. Pius, Westbury Christian, Second Baptist, Beaumont Kelly and Dallas Jesuit every year. The only rivalry kept was St. Thomas. Now look at Houston St. Thomas' schedule (TAPPS school) - They played in 5 tournaments, and they have 19 games on the schedule. [Hidden Content] Note: Both squads played in what's called the Texas Jamboree, where schools from across the state and nation are invited to participate in about 20 games in two or three days. These are just scheduled games, so one of SJ's 22 games was against a school from Alabama, and two of St. Thomas' scheduled 19 games were against Austin LBJ and Sam Houston. (Basically it's just a central location provided by the Jesuit campus to raise money) Hopefully the statistics and websites provided add some facts to the discussion.
20. Here's a link to the video. Both teams played an excellent game. There will be a 7 minute long extended highlight reel form this game posted on KFDM.com tomorrow morning... (or really late tonight.........). Enjoy! [Hidden Content]
21. Just added a couple of quotes and posting a phone interview with Coach Alvarez now on kfdm.com. You can hear more from him tonight on KFDM 6 Sports.
