  1. Nothing personal about the kid just stating his performance on the court. All of the comments around the big 3 talk about his performance and he just did not perform in the games that I have seen him in this year. Ricossa has been much more of a factor that Burrell has in the games that I have seen.
  2. My point was that JB is the go to guy, Burell was a much better player last year. Turner can't take over a game like Bernard and Burrell just is not the same player that he was, especially if you get in his head early. Bernard struggled early but came up big in the the latter part of the game. Burrell sat alot and Turner really did not do alot other than play d. If it were JB sitting like Burrell had to this game is not close and that is why JB is a good player. Burrell is athletic, but not a good shooter and does not play great defense. JB is going to be the player that you all will miss the most. But, back to my original post, he should dominate based upon his age over the majority of kids in the district, 2 years is a big difference in basketball.
  3. It is hard to compare Jarvis and Hayes due to the age difference. Hayes is just turning 17, Jarvis is 19. @ 2 years makes a huge difference. You would have to campare hime to a freshman or soph in college which then puts things into perspective. That is not to take away from Bernard because I think if you take him out of the picture then the team loses everything. Turner can play d but is not a serious threat to score except slashing which OF controlled pretty well tonight. Burell was a non factor as I have seen against alot of teams this year. It was not until Jarvis got hot tonight that HJ got back into it. My mvp was Angelle simply becasue of the job he did on Bernard in the first half. You can talk about the fouls but the big 3 got frustrated and made some poor decisions in the first half. To your credit a good team finds a way to win and they did that tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.
  4. I agree that referees are never an excuse but there are some that call the game tighter than others and depending upon which side you are on it can affect the thinking. I hate when parents say that the ref cost a game. The players lose the game but you are right in the that sometimes kids adjust to the game and when they don't they get their butts beat.
  5. Maybe the reason is the fact that when you go to HJ there is a feeling that you always have to beat 7. It is amazing that when you have an impartial crew there that Silsbee rolls over HJ. Coach Williams knew exactly what he was doing by requesting UIL officials. Referees do not cost teams a game but they can sure impact it.
  6. HJ does not not have great shooting team, they have a very streaky player that can shoot.
  7. The only person who played very well at all was Robinson, he is tough. The big shooters hit nothing and OF outscored Silsbee in the second half with the Silsbee starters in until the end. They also cut it to 9 in the second half. I still think Silsbee is the team to beat but if we play the first 12 minutes like we did the last 20 it is a close game that could go either way. I do think it is pretty low to dog a 17 year old kid on a website, we wonder why kids have a tough time with adults these days. How bout I buy both of you a link at a little dribbler game and we can bet on which color of armband will win? Now thats a good bet. By the way, my 5 year old has a game tomorrow can we get an over/under on that game, no sense waiting till high school to start betting on these little money makers!
  8. I figured something was up. Ricosa was really the difference maker to me in this game on the offensive end. You expect Jarvis to get his 18-20 but you gotta stop the big guy. He has progressed well over the season since I saw him play.
  9. Did not think that all of the big 3 played well, Jarvis played well but Burrell and Turner really did not have good games. Why didn't Burrell start tonight? He seemed to be pretty ticked off through most of game. Ricosa played very well and seemed to get alot of offensive rebounds. I disagree about the clapping on the Hayes incident, it was more of a stand up as to what was going on since it was on the other side of the floor. There is not much positive that I can say about this game, just did not get it done, gotta get ready for the next one.
  10. There are really not any real good fundamentally sound boys teams around in this area so it is hard to say. A good fundamental team can easily break a a good press, they also know how to set good screens, defend the pick and roll etc. If i can do these things I can get you out of your press stop second shots and control the tempo that I want. So, if you take a team that is athletic and a team that is not fundamentally sound it will win everytime.
  11. 1 word, defense. The good news is that we shot the ball well, the bad news is that we gave up layup after layup. Guards have got to play better defense away from the ball. I thought that Hayes played up to what he is capable on both ends and it made a huge difference. The lack of an inside defensive presence hurts some but Hayes does an adequate job. The biggest problem is that every game we dig a hole with the first group and we can't afford to play catch up. Our younger guys have to carry this team which is ok but the seniors still get alot of minutes. I still think that we will be ready to make the playoffs.
  12. We played pathetic, have not played well in 3 games. I can't even imagine how Ozen lost to them. We could not throw one in the ocean, and even worse on defense. Hard to win games when you don't want it more than the other team! We had better get out of the funk and figure out who wants to play basketball or it is going to be a long district schedule.
  13. No problem, I respect the guys out there for not giving up, they always seem to give us fits for some reason.
  14. I watched HJ play several games and Burrell just looks out of sync right now. Granted, we made him look like an all american and he had his best game but other than that he played ok. I still think he brings alot to that team, just looks like he is trying to find his roll. Great job by the hawks though, always find a way to win.
  15. The only reason that HF was in the consolation game was that they lost early. The bracket was set up very poorly for teams that lost late in the day. HF did not look good at all in this tourney. I am not being negative at the program just letting you know how it was set up.
  16. makes no sense with hf and big sandy in the consolation. that leaves of and lh out of both when both of those teams lost big. Take a look at the bracket, if you lost in a late game last night you are out of the consolation game. just does not make alot of sense.
  17. Agree with you bleedorange, not a slap against the girls they have a solid team and alot of people don't like to play them. Similar situation with the boys now. Just look at the BC thread dogging Central, people are complaining that they have no business in the tourney. It is very difficult to look into the crystal ball to see what a team could be next year. If you look we have normally been in the BC tourney but got out of it to try and play tougher competition in tourneys. We had Vidor and Nederland scheduled for our tourney this year and they dropped out. Who else locally does that leave us to play other than Memorial, Ozen, Central? We will have played most people around here before district starts. On the question of pressing, did you beat WOS, HJ, Silsbee and those teams that year? You have to consider the team first. This is the first year in a long time that we have had more than 7 or 8 players as well. Full court man can be a press at least the last time I looked. It also does not take as long to teach.
  18. No one questioning loyalty, just don't see the same comments about the other team. Half of the teams the girls have played could not even get the ball up court against them yet no complaints. I understand that they were larger schools but we also know the talent level as well. Just read about Central in BC tourney how they have nothing to gain by playing there, just that sometimes it is very difficult to find games that are going to help you get ready. Would it be better if the posts were about OF being 4-10 because they played a tough schedule? The fans and parents then would be questioning everything about that, just look at football. Bottom line is we have a program that has improved alot but still has a ways to go. As I said before we play the best teams across Texas in the summer and take the hits. Nothing wrong with getting some confidence. As for the press comment, do you honestly think it would be wise to press Silsbee, HJ, WOS or do we need it against the others? Have a merry christmas!
