  1. Who caused those mistakes? Really like the good spin on scoring though, will have to remember that one.
  2. Orangefield makes the playoffs after beating BC at Bridge City in the Bayou Bowl. I can see it now, most of the crowd will be gone by the end of 3rd just like last time and you guys handing us the trophy right at the 50 yard line. Then we continue to roll over the birds in basketball as well. It is going to be a great year in Bobcat land.
  3. Beating Liberty and Kountze is not the test for making playoffs.
  4. Was a great game, feel like we are better now than when the season ended last year. Defense played ok in first half, not so great in the second. Made some great plays on offense had to good chance to tie at the end. Its a new week and new opponent so let's shake it off and get ready for next week. Good job Bobcats!
  5. Have not heard anything on this game which is unusual for both teams. How did it go?
  6. Still not sold on Turner. Last year he was third player and more people focused on the other 2. What I have observed so far with him being HJ go to player is not that great. I agree he is good defensive player and would put him top 25 but not overall player. He will have to beat top players from other team this year instead of other defenders and just don't think he has that skill set. He will get his points of steals etc but not as much in half court game.
  7. Turner is very good defender just not a guy that is going to take over a game like they have had in the past. Not a great shooter and tries to attack the rim. Saw him shoot 5 air balls in the Silsbee game at the tourney. I would rate him as one of the better defenders in the district however.
  8. Good list but based on what I have seen dont think Turner should be on the list.
  9. Your sources are way off much like your spelling. I agree with bballgod, since you have arrived from Splendora you have done nothing but dog the OF athletes and given every reason as to why we can't compete in this district and beat anyone. I can tell you that some have pulled their names out for personal reasons and based upon the people who know you that I have spoken to I understand why you say what you do. Go to Greenville, talk to Phillips and if it goes good then stay there and be his assistant. Without his sons he has not had alot of success, see 2-8 last year on previous playoff team. Why would someone who said he was looking forward to the next 10 years be so anxious to leave after one horible season? Running from somewhere, not to somewhere.
  10. As usual you are on top of "it" Bignut. So with your years of experience you think that a coordinator should be considered as long as it is the ones that you in your vast knowledge picks. More to the job than just coaching and your money is off as well for the job. I too would have like to have met Phillips but I want someone who wants to be here not just out of there. I hear he has his name all over the state but no one else is jumping either, guess they do not have bignut to do their hiring like we do. We are so blessed.
  11. Phillips had a losing record last season and for some reason wants out of Greenville. Notice I did not say he wanted to come to OF but that he wanted out of Greenville. For the record, Bolton has been a finalist for several jobs and I guess you have never met him because he is a no nonsense fired up coach. Hardly a yes man. But once again I will defer to Bignut as he has much more insight on all of this than anyone.
  12. As usual Bignut you are talking about things that you have no clue. My point to all of this has been that it is efficiency and motivating kids in the time that you have them. I think you have family that play multiple sports, is he living in the weight room? It is up to the kid to decide what he likes and doesnt, not bignutbuck. Make better use of the time that you have and challenge the kids in workouts, don't waste their time. In the army we had a complete workout in 45 minutes 3 times per week, not a second was wasted. When we get the football kids into basketball it takes about a month for them to get into basketball shape because they are not used to running. Our basketball kids run cross country to stay in shape and nos I think yours do as well. Great for the kids and great for the program, when was the last time you went out and ran 6 miles bignut?
  13. Bignut, I think I saw you playing basketball today, not setting a good example for the kids.
  14. I can tell that you have never gone to a basketball game during the summer. It is not unorganized as you say, in fact it is putting in the system that they will be using for the next several years. Most of the kids that play summer league are also in the gym or they are working with personal trainers because they are not getting what they need out of the weightlifting program. Again, start at the top and build a program that kids want to be a part of. Have you ever played any sports or just been a spectator?
  15. Actually, I have never blamed the coaches, school board, administration for the losses. What I do say is that it is a coaches job to motivate. You are not there to be liked by everyone your job is to coach and prepare kids for whatever the sport is. Since these kids started playing their sports year round we have started going to the playoffs. I do not look at it as a competition amongst different sports but a total program. You see it as football is everything to everybody and I dont agree. I have a son that plays football and he will be the first to tell you that even with their time in the weight room they were not pushed as hard as they could have been. That ultimately falls upon whoever is leading the program. They get the pat on the back when it is good and the negative when they are not winning.
  16. Here's a concept, maybe they like basketball. Maybe they are not trying to relive their glory days by complaining about a lack of committment. By the way, 3 of those incoming fresh played 4 games last night including 2 varsity games. They have the drive like that in all sports. What else would you like for them to be doing on Friday night, playing Xbox? I understand your need to bash the kids of OF but maybe you should look at it that they are working out and running all summer long. We have been able able to motivate them to do it for basketball and baseball, why can't it be done in football? Grab your whistle and get started if you care so much.
  17. OK point totally missed. What I am trying to say is an alternative to what we have now, not that it is wrong. We just did things alot different and it works very well where I am from. First, we don't play by the traditional 1a-5a system, it is designed much different. We also played the district schedule to determine seeding for the tourney. The top 2 teams still go to the regional tourney. I did not say that beating a team twice is not enough. All I said was that a good team should be able to win in this format but the other teams do get a chance. It is not likely going to get an 8 seed to the top but there can be upsets. It just makes the games matter at the end. If a team peaks at the end of the season it is interesting to see good games in a tourney. I realize nos that it would probably not be popular in HJ and Silsbee because you feel that you shouild be guaranteed the slot but if you can back it up then you still go to the playoffs. It has nothing to do with at large and all that bull. The best teams should make the tourney and before you say they are it is just a hypothetical idea instead of best 2 out of 3.
