  1. Only on the schedule once during the regular season, maybe we should just block them from tourneys and invite Duncanville and Oak Hill to the Orangefield Classic. I am sure that we have had to turn them down but maybe we should make an exception just once so that we can scream to the world that BobKat 05 approves of the schedule or maybe we can run it by you first.
  2. As I said we are playing comparable teams other than your Dallas tourney. We had planned to play out of the area but it did not get approved. One thing that we do that no other team in the area do is travel in the summer as a team. The majority of our kids play from 20-40 games against 4 and 5a select teams from all over Texas during the summer. That is the place to take your lumps because the kids realize what they need to work on. Nederland and Vidor dropping ou of the tourney can't be helped. Also, just because they are a bigger school does not make them better. Bobcat 05 how much did you get out of beating terrible 4a teams by 40, probably not a lot.
  3. Look at the schedule coming up, EC tourney with HJ, Kelly, Newton, Liberty Hill. We also will be playing Coldspring @their place. We have also played LCM, Nederland, PNG and still play Legacy and Kelly. I realize that SP is not a tough game but people also have to be willing to play us as well. Tried to go to South Texas for tourney this year but was not able to get it approved. I agree it could be tougher but who else could we play in the area that is not in our district?
  4. This really bothers me that we have such an issue that divides. I can see both sides of the arguement but the issue that I have is the argument that we just assume if a kid can't play sports he or she is going to wind up on the street. if that is the case then they really are not there for an education and after the playing days are over will wind up there anyway according to that. I agree that the parents should play a role in getting them home. I too have given rides only to show up at the house and the parent sitting around drinking a beer and it really ticks me off, so let's just enable that ability by continuing to bankroll it at the school. If the parent can't be there becasue of work then I am sure that other parents would not mind helping, but if the reason the kid needs a ride is because Dad and Mom just don't want to come get them then get the kid out of that environment. Let's quit making excuses for the parent and hold them accountable, that's what being a parent is about!
  5. While it was a good game I don't think either team played well at all. It was an ugly game on offense, OF did not have their usual intensity on defense and there was way too much 1 on 1 on the other end. Gotta play unselfish and on both ends if we are going to win. I thought that Nederland did a good job on defense.
  6. Should be neutral party, serve as more as administrator.
  7. Didn't this thing get cancelled last year? I wish these guys could put on a tourney.
  8. If you view it like the basketball threads then the new coach should be none other than Dan Hooks, hasn't lost a 21-3a district game since he's been there. Of course I am kidding but that is the arguement that keeps being made on the basketball threads about Lamar so I just had to throw that in there. ;D
  9. The head coach probably is not making 100k here much less assistants. The D1 game is much different than coaching at Ozen, no disrespect but it is kind of like everyone thinking that just because we have a good local player that coach Roc would be a fool not to recruit them. You have to think outside of this area, it is the whole big fish little pond syndrome. Coach Roc is an excellent coach, but he is limited as to what he can convince to come into Lamar. Coach Roc was tauted at one of the best recruiters in the country so I think he is very capable in that department.
  10. I thinks that it is funny that we think that just because someone was good in our area that Lamar is crazy if they do not go after them. Having played D1 basketball I can't even describe the talent that is needed and the dedication. This is not bragging because I will be the first to tell you that playing D1 vs getting to play are 2 different things. Look at the Hall kid, he was all world in our area and now look at how many minutes he actually gets on the floor. I used to play against guys like Rex Chapman,Sean Kemp, John Pelphery, and I can tell you that as good as I thought I was, it was incredible to watch these guys play. We might think that Lamar is just a local school but D1 is D1 and no coach in his right mind is going to waste a scholarship to get the local fans to come out. Lamar averaged about 3-4 thousand people this season and led the conference. There are very few if any kids in our area that are going to be D1 star basketball players. They might be solid D2 or D3 but I think that is even going to be pushing it. These guys are good local players but most are big fish in a small pond in this area. BTW this is not a knock on any kid just a reality check.
  11. No offense Blue but HF will always battle for last in the district as long as they remain in 21-3a.
  12. Whatever happened with the changing of the grades that teachers said that they were forced to do there?
  13. The best is yet to come for OF in my opinion. The group that will be juniors next year is one of the best to come through in a long time. They have several good players, better shooters and better all around basketball players in this group. This is also a non football group who have been playing year round in Houston, and Austin. When you look at Hayes, Angelle, Evans and get them more scoring threats this group has the potential to win this district in a couple of years. They will definitely be alot deeper than they have ever been. As long as they continue to play unselfish basketball they could be surprising alot of people next year.
  14. Last time i looked they split, with Silsbee winning the one that mattered most.
  15. HJ just needs to take care of the ball, not play sloppy and take to to the big guy. Sundgren can shoot that 10 to 15 ft jumper on him all night. He just needs to stay out of foul trouble. If HJ can do this I think they win this one pretty easily. Navasota is not going to have someone that can shoot from the parking lot like Sweeny did. Good luck Hawks.
  16. Classy comments, hopefully the underclassmen learn from this and make the sacrifices this summer to continue to get better.
  17. And the majority of those games were close against the same people everyone else is dogging. No one is saying that Sutherland is not a great coach, I think he is a really good coach as well. Do you think that Doc Rivers is the coach of the year in the nba, he is the same coach that last year did not make the playoffs but when he picked up 2 of the best players in the nba he starts winning. Same coach different players now he is winning. Players have alot to do with it. You can be the greatest coach but if you do not have the same level of talent on the floor it can make a huge difference. I think that all three coaches have gotten the most out of their programs.
  18. Did not mean to imply that OF did not have players as they do have alot of talent, they are also a very hard working group as we spent alot of weekends on the road in Houston and Austin working on getting ready for this year. I realize that Coach S is going to get this, just like Hooks does in football but you can't blame us for making a case. I still say that the highest we were picked preseason was 5th, ahead of BC, K-ville, and HF. Great job to all of the coaches considered for this spot.
