  2. college teams do it all summer(GAs run it). and every successful program (hs, college, pro) spends some segment of practice working 7on7 or pass skeleton or outside drill while the oline, backs, front 7, etc... work the run game in inside drill. usually 20 minutes.

if it wasnt important, coaches wouldn't devote practice time to it I assure you.

do this research... how many state champions dont do some form of 7on7 at practice daily???

    .

boy yall sure can blow a simple question way out of proportion. i just asked if anyone had won state that had also won the 7 on 7 tournament. im not stating that it isnt beneificial, i said i dont put much stock into it unless all 11 are on the field. This doesnt help your beef on both sides of the ball, like i said it is for the skills people and with timing. i understand it helps with timing between qb and wideouts, and on Defense with the coverages. What im trying to ask was a simple question, he gave me an answer but it wasnt what i asked. You can toot your horns all you want i just asked a simple question. I remember a local team around here not sure who it was, made it a long ways in the 7 on 7, got their hopes up and didnt do too good come season time. that is just an example of why i asked the question.

  4. why do people assume 7on7 is about offense? even if ur a slot t team, your defense must rep coverages vs pass schemes. eventually you do have to beat a carthage, navasota, lake travis, slc, etc... you better get as many reps as you can working against no huddle/tempo/throwing teams.

teach/rep your friday night pass schemes/no huddle/signals, etc... on offense and your coverages/adjustments to formations on defense during the athletic period in the spring and your players rep them all summer in local leagues and tournaments. how can that not help???

only negative to 7on7 is uil wants hs coaches there to 'supervise' but not coach. let em coach too. the kids want to play and they want their coaches coaching them.

how can the head coach be in charge of practice planning when he/she is told they have to be in the weight room during the athletic period

last i checked the athletic period is used for practice

well at least in some sports

Thats the AD's call. And I'm bettin whoever that AD lets them do whatever they want as long as they stay under the 8 hour rule after school.

Pretty sure you're at 3a or below. Maybe you should consider 4a or 5a.

very few coaches work for pay in the summer

    its part of the job

it cannot be required but it can be encouraged

Now you're kinda startin to catch on:) Coaches work countless extra hours because they love it (we don't get rich coaching high school I promise you). They pay us for some extra days. But if you think all coaches are gonna work the summers for free because its part of the job, your starting to get back to pie in the sky stuff.

quest?  why cant head coaches be a part of summer leagues?
    [/quote]

Against UIL rules. And that goes for asst coaches as well.

  8. In the places i've been, the head coach of a sport is in charge of practice planning, scheming, schedule, who plays, etc... And most cases, there is little interference from the AD. Sometimes they are in charge of weight training, sometimes not. And where they were in charge of the weights, lets just say they decided not to spend much time in there (that's what I've seen).
  9. Unless the rules have changed, which I don't think they have, you cannot REQUIRE participation in the summer. It's voluntary. If I tell a kid they have to do something in the summer, I'll be in hot water in a hurry. We can only encourage. And in many districts, there is little pay(can you say 'shrinking budgets everywhere'?) for coaches to work the 'camp' in the summer.

  10. It's not code for anything. I want ALL the sports to succeed, not just football, please don't put words in my mouth.

You're obviously 'basketball only' and are unhappy where you are. Thats fine. Go somewhere where basketball is the focus. I'd suggest 5A where you'll find many (not all, but many) programs where the basketball coach has complete control of their program and
there is very little sharing of athletes. If you desire a smaller school environment, those are out there as well.
