Thanks for welcoming me to the group.  Nederland has a young team, a new varsity coach, and can only improve from previous years.  So I’m excited to watch the growth over the next 4 years my daughter is there.

Looking forward to getting the chance to watch Jasper. Was hoping to see Lumberton have to take their medicine against them, but I don't think the schedule worked out where they will play each other. Would have been good game to face a very experienced team that plays with pace and applies pressure throughout the game

Watch out for Woden this year.  Hannah Hawkins from Livingston is there and she will definitely light up the division!  14 points in this one and she hasnt been acclimated to the offense yet.  I expect a big year from her.

Looked to me like a typical early season game where the defensive effort of both teams was ahead of each team's offensive execution.
Seemed cold in the gym also, maybe that effected shots falling, lol.
Good luck to both of these area favorites this season.

Man I just got my hands on a tournament bracket for the Lady Gander Tip-Off Classic next week in Baytown.  All I can say is Coach Brown definitely scheduled up this year!  Our first game in the tournament next Thursday is against Jersey Village who went 33-3 last year and TABC has them at #11 in 6A.  DeSoto, TABC #2, Roy Report #1 in 6A, along with several other 5A and 6A powers is in this tournament.
We will take some L's along the way in non-district play but when it counts in district and playoffs, we will be ready...

Come watch an underated SheWolves team take on a state finalist from last year.  This will be the SheWolves first home game of the year.  Coach Brown has definitely beefed up the schedule and tournaments for this year.  I'll even buy you some popcorn...😀

As a parent who has watched a lot of girls basketball over a span of the last ten years, I can understand your stance. Most high school girls basketball is not an easy watch due to the overall skill level on the floor. Even watching most "select" / AAU games is an acquired taste due to the fact that most games are overly physical, hand checking, grabbing "D-up" games where full court pressing is used to generate turnovers, resulting in most of the points being from layups, as opposed to half court generated offense.
It is a treat when you get to see games that involve teams running half court sets that feature motion without the ball, and teams that can knock down shots ranging from floaters, to mid-range shots, to 3pt exhibitions. I understand completely that defensive pressure and turnovers are a huge part of the game, I am just speaking to how the physical nature of the girls game is ramped up most times to cover up a lack of skill or to rub out more skilled player(s).
You will enjoy this game as it will feature some of the most highly skilled players we have in this area. All of which have worked since a young age at their craft. I know this because my daughter has been fortunate enough to compete (very much uphill I will add, lol)  against them in practice and with them at tournaments during AAU seasons and workouts through the years.
    Good luck to both teams.

To me this will be the most competitive region.  Hightower, Foster, Manvel and Shadow Creek are all in the same district!  Barbers Hill will be interesting to watch with the new coach (Coach Harris from Manvel).  Its good to see PN-G in the mix in this region, they have definitely come a long way and will be led by a guard that can flat out score the basketball!  Good luck ladies!

I think this is pretty accurate.  I would rank Houston Westside in front of Pearland tho.  Pearland has an elite Mississippi State commit but their guard play will be questionable.  BU has the chance to really shock the region, I think that Summer Creek and Cypress Creek will be a challenge for them.  Cypress Creek will have the best back court in the area hands down, and Summer Creek has a very athletic front court.  BU just gotta get it done!

That's great to see the district get recognition by the prognosticators.
Toughest girls district in SETX imo,  from #2 in the state HJ, #13 in the state Silsbee, (per TABC preseason rankings), to a very hard nosed LCM squad coached by a HOF coach.
I personally think you can throw Bridge City  in that cusp mix as well. They have a very solid x/o coach as well, plus a high energy roster
Saw several teams in another thread wanting to scrimmage HJ, shoot, come on down to 22-4a and you can catch them twice a year for a real  (improbable) win/(most likely) loss chance, like these teams in this district have to, lol.
Hope for a safe, injury free year for all the ladies competing this year.

Indeed they do, as does that very solid veteran leadership led PNG squad. I know Lumberton faces Jasper, PNG, Barbers Hill, and also highly ranked 3A Hitchcock in their tournament at Lumberton in mid November. Will definitely get a real solid idea of how much work will be needed to improve to being able to compete at the level of competition of those quality programs. Great opportunity for the untested Raider squad.

I think Woodville and HJ certainly have the experience and the rosters to make it right back to San Antonio next March. I think United will be very successful as well, with the overall roster and the very experienced coach they have. Just a guess on my part, but I could see United playing more up tempo based on the guards and the very talent wing player they have.
PNG is one of the hunted now in their 5A district, along with perennial favorite Barbers Hill , based on their success last season and their experienced roster. I think Orangefield will be a solid squad once again this season due to coaching and their experienced roster.
In area 4A, HJ has a wealth of riches in terms of returning varsity level players, players from last year's JV and freshman teams, and players coming into their school district for a variety of reasons. They may have lost their all time leading scorer, but I think they will make up for that difference by playing into the strengths of the additional length and quickness they have in their arsenal now.
I know Jasper has a very veteran squad that is athletic, and I look forward to seeing what they do as well.
Also in 4A, I know LCM will be right there due to the fact that they have a 1000+ win coach who knows how to get his team ready to play whatever style is necessary depending on the opponent. They have a great floor general in their senior point guard, and their other players are great in buying into the role that their HOF coach has mapped out for them. I think Bridge City may have lost some seniors, but their younger players will be ready to go as well, and BC's coach will have them in the right spots.
Silsbee lost a lot of seniors, but I think they will be stronger than what some people may be thinking at this point. Lumberton is a team that for personal reasons I would like to see succeed, but they have a lot of work to do to approach the level of cohesiveness that the teams I listed above already play it.
Good luck to all the teams in the area, and I wish the best for all the young ladies who play. They work very hard and they deserve the area's support.
