  1. This will be interesting.  Of the six, my guess is that Taylor, Speights and Foreman will be tempting to Dr. Barnhardt since having no experience at the AD position and being younger, she will probably think she will have more influence over these three.  She might think the same thing about Randy Whitley even though he is older.  She will have a better idea of what she is getting with Martel since he has been there before and Dr. B obviously knew Gary.  Coach Cautheran will be more of a wild card for her.

She has butted heads at times with her last two ADs but that's not an indictment of the Supt. or the coaches.  I am just saying that she might just view the first three mentioned as people she can  "mold".  In any event it seems to be a pretty good list.  The Panthers will be fine with any of the six.

  2. For me, its about commitments.  These girls have multiple commitments.  They have  commitments to the volleyball team and the cheerleading squad or to the drill team and volleyball team.  Their commitment is not to the football team and to say they are choosing football over volleyball is probably a little unfair.  Kids at small schools get pulled a lot of different directions. To get down on the kids or the parents when they chose one activity over another is a little much in my opinion.

  3. I suspect this may be as a result of some of the scandals associated with NCAA recruiting.  Most of the select team coaches are respectable folks, but not all.

I suppose that some of the most notorious incidents have been with select basketball.  There have been many situations where the select team coaches, or "handlers", have sold their player to the college coach that offered the most money.  I guess the UIL is thinking that by allowing the UIL coaches to coach the teams during the summer and funneling the recruitment of the players through the UIL coaches, the chances of recruiting violations will be lower.

  4. I've seen Tatum play several times over the last couple of years.  They won the 3A state championship two years ago and 2A division I state championship last year.  I'm not sure that this year's team is as strong as previous teams.  Those teams sent kids to Tennesee, TCU, Michigan State, UH and others.  They were loaded.  That being said, they have three or four kids that will go D1 on this year's team.  Several of the kids on this year's team contributed to last year's state championship in track.  They are coached by Andy Evans who was the long time coach at ECC.  This should be a very good game.  I hope the weather is decent.
