Forgot the Saturday Headlines this week

Central coaches ask refs to move clock back up one hour to get game over with ASAP. -
I think the Purple Pride Indian Band and Indianettes are going to be exhausted after this Friday night. Cherokee will be played so often that the Panthers will have nightmares when they lay their heads down on their pillows after the game. They may need counceling the next day from the repeated pounding of the Indians drums !!! Lets Go PNG Defense !!! get you your first shut out this year !!!!
This reminds of one of the fans talking a couple of years ago about the West Brook coach did a good job of using his time outs to let the band rest from being so tired from playing the fight song. One of my favorite smack attack quotes.

MID COUNTY MADNESS...Who Wins? PN-G Or Nederland?

i have a suggestion for you Nederland fans about parking. Bring your golf cart on a trailer and park at the little league park or PN park then drive to the stadium in the cart. not sure where you could park the cart around the stadium, but the parking is terrible right now. -
MID COUNTY MADNESS...Who Wins? PN-G Or Nederland?

Razor, your point about PNG seems to be favored by most and on paper is what concerns me. Nederland should be able to relax and play ball, would not be surprised to see Ned coaching come with a competely different approach to this game. The young men from Nederland they sure got heart and they will play hard. As some have said earlier these or 16-18 yr olds and there is no telling what might happen when the green flag drops. PNG better do more than just show up for this one. I'm reminded of a 42 to 0 loss a couple of years ago to LCM that no one would have predicted, and the rumor was that about half of the PNG team had a party before the game because they thought all they had to do is show up. -
Chester theater - that would be the side of the Dollar General being used at a screen.

Lumberton / Vidor still undecided at press time. Game in 3OT's score 72 -72

loved that TJ fight song almost as much as Cherokee -
My 2 cents - TC's defense played a very good game. PNG QB had 'happy feet' several times in the game not casting blame, QB had a great game but he had to scramble several times. The wind may have been a bigger factor than initially recognized. I believe it was why the ball hung up or floated on the interception on an attempt to get the ball to #19 over the middle. #19 had one TD reception and had one in his hands but couldn't hang on that would have been his second. (he will not let that happen very often) he will make that catch many times this season if he gets the chance. PNG lost 7 points on blocked FG and xtra pt attempts all by the same defensive player. (unbelievable) Great defense by both teams. TC was able to change the game in the 2nd half with there 'hurry up' offense. And as previously stated they kept PNG in bad field position for the whole 3rd quarter. Oh yeah the last TD scored by TC was definitely offensive pass interference. For you Nederland fans, I've never seen the replay but I think it was comparable to 'the catch' in 1975 by a former 6'8" PNG receiver.

Back to the original ? I saw an 8 yr old who the coach intentionally placed in left field catch 14 fly balls in one season. The coach told me that he made a decision to try a little different approach than standard reasoning. Later in the season when everyone started hitting the ball better it really made a difference. The team finished 3rd in the league but they were in the race till the end.

Is Football REALLY "king" in SE Texas? Numbers say NO!!!

OK, I don't have statistics, but I have 1 question. How many people does your football stadium seat and how many people does your gym seat? -
Hardly any HS baseball coverage in today's paper. Surely they could do better.

Nederland @ PN-G - Updates/Nederland Wins!!!

#22 - Weathersbee did not have a "bad" first half. Several turnovers (players couldn't get the ball down the court, etc. He was not involved in that). He didn't score much in the first half because they could not get the ball to him. The Indians really had a detrimental 2nd quarter and did not have have much response to the Ned's talented 3 pt shooting. You're right, bad choice of wording. I didn't mean it like it sounded. If I remember right he scored very little in the 1st half and it wasn't because he was shooting and missing it was because he did not get the chance to shoot. -

First time to see both teams. It is good to see both teams playing some good ball. Ned's PG # 13 is a text book point guard. Pass, dribble and protect the ball, pull up and shoot, 3 point shooter and good on the foul line . very impressive #52 center(still call em that?) very quick and good shot blocker and only a sophomore. Png had some bright spots, #33 very solid shooter inside and out, good defense. PG very good 3 point shooter and ball handler. It looked like to me that the game was lost or won in the 2nd quarter when both teams made some line up changes and Ned's worked out better. Neds 3 pointers in the 3rd kept Png from catching them. (I think they hit 5 in the 3rd quarter) It appeared that Png's #22 had a bad 1st half, but he can play ball. Good game. good crowd. There's hope that B ball can be exciting in Mid county. -
When are they playing? Where " " " What " " " for, Bi district?...

Keep in mind that when top stressful jobs are listed a "Texas High School football coach" is always near the top. -

Joe Washington - Lincoln (70-72) Larry Mayer - TJ (70-71-72???) Jeff Bergeron - PNG (70-72) All american with Tony Dorsett Briles -Stephenville (98-99) Steve Worster -BC (64-66????) J. Rodgers - LC (06-07) -
I remember the Texas City - PNG game well, I was a photographer on the sideline. The whole game was played on one end of the field. Neither team crossed the 40 yd line on the North end of the field. We won 9-7. If you are showing your age I was probably 17 that year. I remember after the game it started pouring rain and we had to jump my car in it. Brutal weather, but a very exciting win for a team that was picked to finish 4th in the district, but finished 4th in the state.

Tonight the coaches tried this. Livingston picked off 2 early passes for TD's. Livingston defense was in Harrison's face all night. He was sacked several times and had to hurry all night. IMO Livingston has a better Defense than Nederland based on the PNG - Ned game and PNG - Livingston game which I watched. So my data base is somewhat small.

What do we know after the second district game?
ndn2016 replied to Foyce's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't see anyone going undefeated in this district. Nederland and Central are the obvious possibilities but one of them will beat the other and Vidor, Lumberton, and even Livingston may have a surprise for the other. Nederland was flawless against PNG. PNG shot themselves in the foot several times at key points from a momentum standpoint. It is always possible for high school players to fall apart on any given night and the end result is a better team on paper loses to a lesser team. The potential for upsets in this district is one of the things that makes it such a fun district to watch. -

Seems to me that a parent was banned from LCM baseball games about 2-3 years ago for being unruly. His son was on the team. It looks like the public property argument did not hold water in that situation.
