  1. Ok first.......based on how the teams have fared this season (and I'm PNG bias)...I would have to say Lumberton has the best chance to win this game.  Although I'm rootin' for a PNG victory!!

but you guys talking about Lumbertons past and mentioning numerous winning seasons is quite laughable.........Since 1966 Lumberton has 7 (numerous....lol) seasons with a record above .500........this season would make 8........Of all the achievements we could post about PNG from 1966 to the present, one only has to use the same number 8 as in 8 unshared district titles........The statement made about a team, that does not make the playoffs....does not mean they lose the majority of their games...does not apply to Lumberton because they have.....??

I'm proud of Lumberton and their recent accomplishments.....but please don't bring up the past to support your present.....

    may the best team win......Scalp'em!!

  2. I have nothing against Brook and I wish them success; Its just how alot of Talk about Brook being so great annoys me cause when yall were down I didnt see many Brook fans on the Boards. My team is trash and Im here supporting them to the end. Go Brook Win It All for SETX is my attitude;Alot of post that are being put up seems as though Brook fans have no humility.

ok, ok, just one minute............ I was gettin' my teeth kicked in............ defending West Brook on the old Smack forums...........so take your medicine like a man.......lol

Brook Rolls Lee 63 to 13

  3. Well Crap..............first off Congrats to Nederland..........sad for me because now I have to hear "Poor Little Indian Boy's," from my wife for the next 350+ day's...........lol

Since this thread is about calls I did not like how two calls were made and it brought questions out to me about the whole crew.

IN FIRST HALF  (two young kids had to leave at half)

1st you had a deep pass from Nederland down the right sideline (PNG defending).   As soon as the ball hits the ground the back judge throws his flag about 20 yrds behind the play about 10 feet away from the line judge ( on Nederland's sideline). Think the call was def holding or pass interference...don't remember.  If he saw it then he should have thrown it then, not wait until after the ball, which landed 5 yards over everyones head hits the ground.  Just looked bad!!

2nd you had PNG with a pass down the middle of the field.  Again play had ended, waaaay ended, then the line judge on  the PNG side comes out to the area of the pass and throws his flag (not the back judge) and calls defensive holding.  same thing if you saw it throw it.  The waiting brings about questioning of judgment JMO.

Period point blank.............. the crew could have been blind as bats...... Nederland outplayed PNG   :'(

  4. Not saying it didn't or doesn't happen, but 1.8 from behind the plate...........at the High School level.......... I would have to see it to believe it........that's moving!!

This is in that category when people say a pitcher throws consistently in the low 90's........in high school, I would have to see that too...........

If it is happening and CONSISTANTLY..............then Huffman has an exceptional athlete in their program.

  5. Two things of significance happen for West Brook this year in the series..............They move ahead of Ozen in the head to head with their 5th straight victory.........and for the second time in both the schools history West Brook will win it's fifth straight victory over Central.  Get your other hand ready Brook for '09.  They'd have to open another new high school to see an end to this trend......lol (better not speak so loud.....seen it happen before.....lol)

::) ::) Looking ahead?  I think Brook needs to worry about Ozen right now.  We'll be ready for Brook when the time comes.

Soulja......I haven't been wrong about this series since we were on the old "smack forum."  I don't expect to be wrong this year either.  Being a fan we are aloud to look ahead......Stump and Co. has all minds in the right spot!!  ;)

  7. This is a direct quote from Buck Ford's book "Down Trails Of Victory."

"For the record, the Indians of PN-G have the blessing of the Cherokee Nation.  In a 1980 newspaper article titled, "Tribe Joins Cherokee Nation," Ross Swimmer, chief of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, said:

We the Cherokee Tribe feel privileged that your school has chosen to use "The Cherokee" as your fight song.....The Cherokee have always been a stoic people with a strong will to win and even in defeat, hold our heads with dignity and pride.  It is my understanding that your school has this quality of winning and holds the Cherokee spirit high for everyone to see." (pg 433)

First, it was not as long ago as you think.....

It's not about gaining respect, or representing the feelings of every Native American.  The fact is respect was gained from this Native American Chief from the Cherokee themselves.  Native Americans themselves saw each tribe as a separate group.  Just having a treaty with one group, of Lipan Apache tribe, did not mean all of the others would abide by it....right or wrong.....each had their own chief......each did as they felt they should to survive, with out consorting with any other tribe of the same name.......Gaining the Respect of the highest authority from one of the most historic Native American comunities should be enough.

I hope this was as a respectfull rebuttal without offending anyone with Native American ancestry!!

If it's only the name 'Indian' people have beef with then the Port Neches-Groves Karankawa would be just fine with me...It's more 'Historical'....as they are the Native American group that occupied this land.

  8. Don't remember seeing the original poll but here are a list of my picks (thanks to wos87's research skills) You can put anyone of them at #1 and make a good argument on why they are the best ever.  I have them ranked by the difference between Points Scored (For) and Points Allowed.

    1.Newton '05      14-0     45PF vs 9.9PA

    2.PA Jef '44        13-1     34PF vs 3.7PA  10 shut outs

    3.Newton '98      13-0     36PF vs 7.5PA

    4.NED '57           14-0     30PF vs 3.8PA

    5.Newton '74      14-1     33PF vs 7.1PA

    6.Bridge City '66  13-1     33PF vs 6.9PA

    7.Hebert '76       15-0     33PF vs 8.2PA

    8.WOS '87         15-0     28PF vs 5.8PA

    9.PNG '75          14-1     24PF vs 7.6PA

    10.PA Jef '29      10-1-2  19PF vs 2.4PA Co Champs

    11.WOS '86        13-2     23PF vs 9.0PA

    Honerable mention

    PNG '46           11-0    39PF vs 2.0PA * 7 shut outs

farthest they could go was A Regional Final game

Winning through adversity award would go to the '82 West Brook Bruins.  From past articles I get the feeling 'Remember the Titans' could have been called 'Remember the Bruins.' Coach Durley had his hands full!! Yet, they were able to Win a State Title!!

  9. Mr Ump.....I'm assuming also... ;D (did not see it).....but this sounds a lot like the Vidor/PNG call................ and with it being the third out and both teams are moving off the field........that would indicate all is dead at the third out call (at the moment the call was made).  If runner who hit the ball was running, at best he's rounding first base but not at second base........throw was from third to the plate........  I would say runner would be put on first base with two outs??

My question would be how quick was the call changed?? was play completely stopped and questioned before he changed it, or was it done by himself on his own right after the out call?

Tough play buy with two outs I would have been praying he went to first with the ball.........there you have a force...........lots can happen with a tag play.......this case being an example

  10. If this 'smarts' I apologize, but this is a concern I have......

I'm just wondering.......is it a PROUD moment to be thrown out of a game in front of a bunch of 11 yr old's??

what teaching moment does this cover??

sorry, but if the game were truly 'about the kids' grown men, in charge of youth sports, would be able to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.......no matter the situation......each action you take is a learning experience for the children you have at your feet.

In the past 5 years I have not heard of anyone coaching baseball in this area have to report to the UIL in High School baseball..(could be missing someone but don't recall).....this summer alone I've heard of someone being thrown out of a 5 yr old game last year, again this year and now in an 11yr old league.  I'm guessing the actual number is higher then 3 in two years??

I know, I know......it wasn't your fault coach.....you were 'giving your all for the team'....you expect your players to give all every play and that's just what you were doing......right?...so many on here like to use that stand......You were right, the ump was wrong and that's why you had to leave...........

Maybe if the area came up with a stricter approach to coaches being ejected from games (rather then punishment being to sit in a lawn chair in view of the game)  other then to sit out one game...........this area could start "giving youth sports back to the youth"...'Cal Ripkin Jr'

but I'm sure Cal don't know what he's talking about!

Good luck to all our children

  11. drove thru nederland the other day and saw the scoreboard.  it is HUGE!!!  the scoreboard is so big that it makes the stadium look small.  i was very impressed.   8)

Thats why we need to replace the stadium!!   ;D

........i see, that's like buying  one new shinny rim.....then, show it two your wife and say.....ok I want the car to go with this...... :D  Drive her down AVE D in Port Neches and show her the rest of the car..(well, almost the rest).... ;D

I'm going with the under"dogs" very close!!

  12. just my two cents.........I am going to guess that the best players are all shortstops.......I would hope dads would be able to tell there kids that get moved to other positions......... that if you can play shortstop, you can play anywhere on the infield at any time......i would say anywhere on the field, personally.  I would also hope those that have to play rightfield who use to play left and center would be told if you can play one outfield position you can play them all at anytime.  i would love the luxury of having three great kids that can play shortsop and two great kids that are centerfielders.........bet i could find spots for them.........

And as far as the batting order.......again I'm guessing all season long all of these guys batted 1 through 4 and some are going to be down about having to bat 5 to 9......all you need to be prepared to tell them is if you batted one threw four you can bat anywhere and what each number hitters job is........

5.....is like your second 4 spot who gets it done when 4 spot can't

    6.....is your RBI guy

7,8....guys who fight to get on base and score/ give top of order chance to come back to the plate

9.....(called second leadoff) he can lay a bunt down on a dime, hit and run, and scratch and claw to bring the top of the order back to the plate.....even with two outs

Parents also need to know......there only going to be upset about where there playing or where they are batting IF YOU LET THEM........If they see you are mad at their position they will feed off of you.....if they over hear you talk about it.....their ears will pop up.........You should have a 'positive' reason for why they are where they are on the field and in the batting order ready for them to hear, if they show they are upset..........I mean if their chosen to wear an all-star uni.....that's an honor itself....if they get some PT....that's icing....no matter where they are at..........

Good Luck Dog's......this from an injun...lol

  13. Personally I don't know why your panties are in a wad about their being more kids from nederland at age 13.....in the 'NEDERLAND' Babe Ruth League   I think it's simple.

I would think driving age has a lot to do with why there are more Nederland kids in the younger groups and more of a variety of kids that take part in the 16-18 groups.  Moms and dads having to drive sons to nederland from BC, Orange, Vidor etc......even if you let them ride with someone, you still have to worry about them getting there and getting home.  Not that worry stops when they drive (probably more)......but unless they are working in the summer they don't have to worry about being late to a practice because they have a car or a team member from their town they can ride with, and parents don't have to miss work for practice

.........and maybe i missed out on the conversation of a player being "overlooked" because of an attitude problem..........but if I'm expecting kids to listen (ALL KIDS) no matter how much talent a kid has, they should be expected to abide by the rules of practice as well as ball games.  I'm not going to take a kid to a game that is going to "misrepresent" himself, his parents, me, the league, the city, plus the city he's from.  Kids don't realize how many 'invisible patches' they wear on their sleeve.

Parnets should be the one "managing" the attitude leaving the skill work to the coaches.

Unless your getting a million a week no volunteer has to put up with anyone who does not listen.......period.

the part i have a problem with is faulting kids when they don't have a ride to get to practice on time or at all.  They can't drive themselves.  I would think most coaches would have a plan in place to help out, but again, these are people volunteering their time and they only have so much of it (time) themselves.

with all of that said I have nothing to do with Babe Ruth other then being a past player that loved every minute of it!!  sorry your experience has not worked out........

  14. maybe...just maybe....having 6 (that have been listed above) coaches in the past approx. 18 years was not working............what is the level of success that has been reached?  Maybe expectations are changing.......and just maybe for the better........and this hire effects me in no way shape or form either!!

list the qualifications the younger assistance have.....and leave out where they are from and who they played for in high school.............lets see whats being over looked??.......

I bet if you take the time to sit in the AD's shoes, you would see, the entire athletic program at your school just got better from the Starting QB to the kid who thinks a cup is nose protector..........
