  1. I like it. You give the underdogs a chance to prove they deserve to be there. It's unfortunate that some districts have 8 teams as some only have 6 (thus improving their chances) but that's the way it is. In the case of the playoff teams COOP listed above, every week they win they prove they deserved the chance.
  2. The article was in a recent (last Sat. maybe) edition of the Bmt Enterprise. Two collumns written by Rush Wood. I seem to recall about $8 per credit hour in student fees if approved. Plus, the Dean and AD would need to get some major external financial backing. The field is grass & would need to change. I think Lamar could put a good team together from local recruits with talent and heart but "size challenged". The big problem I remember with the program was lack of fan interest. Golden Triangle fans don't historically support pro or semi-pro sports. Look at the Golden Gators, The Exporters and the Wildcatters (to name a few). Maybe times have changed (at least for Lamar football). Okay now, what was the topic again?
  3. "I would hate to see Texas City (make that) Livingston. Then Lumberton would have to settle for beating the team that beat the Broncos. Just stirring the pot." Just updating my old post here. I hope some folk got a sense of humor since last time or I'm liable to get more negative karma. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to laugh all by myself.
  4. I tend to agree with PNG Proud. If this re-match happens, I would think more than 17,500 SE Texans would come out to see it in an extremely local venue. How many fans from other 22-4A teams would come to see two of their own in a quaterfinal match-up? Not to mention WB, PAM and local "small" school fans. 17,500 capacity would probably be okay if it was a 2 hr drive. But with 200,000 people less than 45 minutes away, doubtful. Also, it seems that the coaches would prefer turf over grass. Is this true? Maybe this is something we could look for in the future with area team playoff rematches. I read that LU is giving the students a vote on reinstating Cardinal football. Right now, I think Lumberton has its hands full again with Waller much as they did with La Marque. Dayton should take Livingston as long as they don't look at them too lightly. I'd put the odds at 50/50 for the rematch.
  5. I like it. I actually think it fits region III fairly well. Looks like Lumberton has close to a 50/50 chance of making it to the quarterfinals. I don't doubt Dayton's ability to make it to the quarterfinals based on their most recent performances. I don't have a feel for how we compare to the other regions, but it doen't look bad from this.
  6. I would hate to see Texas City. Then Lumberton would have to settle for beating the team that beat the Broncos. Just stirring the pot.
  7. Thanks dayton. I know yall have the longest drive, but I hope yall stay in this district. I believe that the tougher our district is the more chance our local teams have to learn and improve.
  8. 1st to the topic. I don't see even the start of a rivalry. The two main reasons are (1) Dayton will probably come and go in in this district as has happened in the past (2) Dayton already appears to have a rivalry with Crosby. Natrual rivals could be Silsbee, Vidor or Jasper. It used to be a big deal to beat Jasper. Problem is, I don't think it meant or means anything to Jasper to beat Lumberton. Honestly, Lumberton has not been consistently good enough traditionally to draw a rival. 2nd to the issue of seeding. I see both sides. I don't think we'll ever know what the content of the Friday meeting was. I am curious. However, I don't believe that anything underhanded happened. On this forum we see a few key facts and two opinions. Facts 1) Dayton, Lumberton & PNG tied for 1st with 6-1 district records. 2) Lumberton beat Dayton, PNG beat Lumberton & Dayton beat PNG 3) Using point spread you have 1-Dayton, 2-Lumberton & 3-PNG. 4) The fact is that PNG is the "big school" and goes to Div. I while Dayton & Lumberton goes to Div. II. Opinions 1) The point system for tie-breakers should have been applied to seeding before removing the Div. I rep. 2) The Div. I rep should be removed from consideration so you can look at head-to-head on the Div. II reps. I don't know the content of the meeting. I've only seen small sections of the district rules. From what I've seen the rules addressed which teams go to the playoffs, but not specifically seeding. I like to think that the meeting was called to clarifiy the seeding issue before the final outcome on Friday night. Just think, dist. 21-4A still had games too. Can we say that we knew who the #1 and #2 seed at 2pm Friday afternoon before the week 10 games? Even if the dist. 21-4A reps & seeding was know, what about all of region III and the brakcets? I'll say this, I think TC is a tougher opponent than LM. And Crosby may have been tougher than Smiley. I don't think anyone will argue that week 3 will put Lumberton against a tougher opponent in Yates or Waller than Dayton will face in Livingston or Houston Washington (not sure if those two are correct) - assuming both D & L advance. Ultimately it doesn't matter, both Dayton & Lumberton would have to clear the same field of 14 teams plus each other to advance, regardless of starting point. As PURPLE wrote, I also hope that 22-4A can sweep region III and meet in the quarterfinals. I will be pulling for both teams (and PNG, WB, WOS, Jasper, Kville, Hardin & Newton).
  9. The program results appear to have been run on Nov. 19th. I believe it takes into account the most recent games to match up teams. If you look at Lumberton it shows a loss to Dayton. The way Dayton has been playing lately, I can understand that predictions. That said, I doubt it would have predicted a 1 pt win by Lumberton back in late Sept.
  10. This looks interesting for all our playoff teams. I looked at PNG, Dayton & Lumberton. Looks like PNG is a slight underdog this week. Lumberton & LM looked even and Dayton should take care of TC. I bet the computer program doesn't consider Indian Pride. PNG by 7 with some hard work.
  11. If the Raider play like they did against Nederland, Raiders by 14. If they play like they did against Smiley, it will be close. I listened in on LM vs EC and LM did not seem to be the powerhouse that I've heard of over the past decade. I was viewing a Houston area sports forum, 2 out of 4 picked Lumberton.
  12. May be titan, but I'm still wondering who the favorites are for face-off in round 3?
  13. Isn't Yates the favorite to play either Lumberton or LaMarque in round 3? Who is the favorite to play Dayton (or Texas City) if they make round 3? I'm thinking Lumberton's road may be a bit tougher.
  14. Unlikely, but I sure would like to see it happen. I got to see most of Lumberton v. Dayton & Dayton v. Nederland and all of Nederland v. Lumberton this year. Both Dayton & Lumberton are vastly improved. I think it would be a great contest not to mention the Region III D-II sweep. If it happened, I can't imagine Cardinal Stadium as the venue. I think it seats around 17,500.
  15. Not from Nederland but I saw the Dogs last two games this season. It's like Mike East said. They played far too loose against Dayton & Dayton's passing was tight. Defense stepped it up in the last game. They played Lumberton hard all the way thru. The big problem was the near total lack of running game (except for one impressive run by Cardenas at QB). Good luck next year.
  16. Thanks. I've read of coin tosses too. I would hate to see it come to that. As a long time soccer fan, this would be worse than a penalty kick shoot-out.
  17. There seem to be many area teams that could end the season in a 3-way tie forcing one out of the playoffs. I read that you go by point differential with the three teams in contention. Is the maximum 16, 17 or 18? I've read all three. What would be next after that? District games PF-PA, maybe? Is there a UIL website with the rules posted. Can someone help me out, please? Thanks.
