  1. What's interesting to me is looking at the 4A Div I vs Div II playoff teams' final district standing. For region III, it appears that 7 out of out of the 16 Div II playoff where the #1 and #2 teams in their respective district. All this goes to say, don't judge a school size.
  2. Based on the many scenarios that I checked out no team has yet to clinch a playoff spot with 3 teams eliminated. I came up with 256 different scenarios with some resulting in 4 ways ties for 2nd and many 3 way ties for 3rd. Central: 29% chance of district champs - 2% chance of elimination**requires loss to PNG Livingston: 23% chance of district champs - 9% chance of elimination Lumberton: 41% chance of district champs - 9% chance of eliminations**requires loss to LCM Nederland: 3% chance of district co-champs - 38% chance of elimination Vidor: 13% chance of district co-champs - 27% chance of elimination Note that where I could compare head-to-head wins or point leader on 3 way ties and determine top seed (regardless of Div I or II), I called only one team champ. Bragging rights. Like Dayton last season.
  3. EagleAGO3, Here's a breakdown of the scenario you are describing...a 3-way tie between Nederland, Livingston and Vidor. In this scenario, Vidor will have beaten both teams. Nederland will have lost to both teams. If it goes to points, Ned would be -6 if they loose by 1 to Vidor. Livingston would need to be -7 (I would assume because of the head-to-head win) which means losing to Vidor by 12. The big question is this...Will it still go to points with one team losing to both other contenders? Anyone?
  4. Here's another strange scenario. Even Vidor or Nederland have the potential to become co-district champions with bragging right. By bragging rights I will explain. There are scenarios that could leave 4 teams tied for first at 5-2. In one of these scenarios Vidor wins out (1 game being against Livinston), Lumberton loses 1 of its last 2 games, Livingston beats Central, Cental beats PNG. Just looking at these four teams head to head (not using points), Vidor and Lumberton have beaten 2 of the opposing co-champs with Vidor having the head-to-head win over Lumberton. Livingston and Central have have beaten 1 of the opposing with Livingston having the head-to-head win over Central. Hence, in could be... 1-Vidor (5-2) 2-Lumberton (5-2) 3-Livingston (5-2) 4-Central (5-2) Again, unless you go to points. Yes, I had too much time on my hands last weekend.
  5. Also... PNG, Bmt-Ozen and LCM are out. However, PNG could be a spoiler for Bmt-Central with help Livingston and LCM can be a spoiler for Lum with help from Ned.
  6. No team in 20-4A has clinched a playoff spot. There are a few scenarios that can place Central and Livinston tied at 5-2 (or one at 6-1 and other at 5-2) and Lum, Ned and Vidor at 4-3 with any one of the 3rd place teams eliminated on points. Such as with Vidor beats Ned and both Ned and LCM beat Lum. Unlikely but possible. Needless to say, Central and Livingston also have a remote chance of being eliminated with Livingston arguable having the tougher road ahead. I think Vidor must win out to be in, but I'm not even sure of that.
  7. Too bad if that's the case. I like to see a tougher district so our local teams are prepared for a deeper run in the playoffs.
  8. Scalp'em, No hard feelings. Not from Livingston. Just curious considering their last season. Never too early for trash talking. Always fun unless taken personally.
  9. How do you think we got Livingston instead of Dayton or Barbers Hill? Seriously, I'm glad to see that this district looks to get a team that can hold their own or better. Maybe not at the level of Dayton, but we should still get good games. I think...Nederland, Central, Lumberton, Livingston...in no particular order make the playoffs, but way too early to tell. Heck, Livingston could appeal. Go look up their mileage, not that it was that great before...
  10. I'm just curious on this. Livingston went 3 deep in the playoffs to be knocked out by Dayton last year. Is this really a weak team that won't compete for at least 3rd or 4th in district? Granted, this implies that Livingston is an easier opponent than Dayton (assuming no change in talent, teamwork & coaching). Bronco1, I assume you saw Livingston in the playoffs. Can you say that they really are that weak?
  11. Am I reading this right? Are the 4A districts going to be sending 4 teams to the playoffs starting in 2008? Are 3A and lower sticking with 3 teams (or less) to the playoffs? Is this official?
  12. This is a very strange "dream district" like oldtimer said. 2A teams to 5A teams. Don't get me wrong, I think teams like Newton or Tatum would be a tough win for many 4As and some 5As this year. Even as outstanding as Lumberton was this year, I wouldn't bet on the home team winning 1 in 10 against Trinity, Katy or the likes. What I really want to know is who made the vote counter. Before I voted, I added the individual team votes and (I think) it came to 28 but the total number of votes said 16. Whoever set it up may want to offer their "special" services to one of the Presidential candidates.
  13. Just my guess based on returning talent and Coaches (assuming Dayton is back in). 1. Dayton 2. Nederland 3. Lumberton or Central 5. PNG 6. Ozen 7. Vidor 8. LCM Curious, how did all the JV teams match up in distrcit?
  14. I have heard that spinal bone spurs are pretty common for running backs. These guys take a lot of physical abuse on the field. A coworker that was a RB in high school has had 2 surguries to remove bone spurs. His doc told him that the spurs will almost always grow back. His doc said that he would not cut them off a 3rd time & would recommend fusing the vertebrae.
  15. Bronco Mom asked a question about travel distance awhile back. Here's a rough answer. 22-4A teams in Jefferson, Orange & Hardin County travel from 200 (Bmt C. & O.) to 300 (Lumb. & LCM) miles round trip in district per season. Dayton in 22-4A travels about 525 mi. BH would travel about 585 mi. in 22-4A. The difference is much of Dayton's travel is probably on US90 with lots of stop lights & BH is mostly down I-10 (or I-10 & TX 73). Probably the same travel time. Unless 22-4A goes to a seven team district, some team will be forced to drive some miles. With the industrial growth along the Gulf coast, I think Bridge City, Silsbee & WOS could go back to 4A. Someone posted that they felt that neither 22-4A or 21-4A wanted them. I wouldn't look at the poll above that way. I bet most of the votes are to have Dayton IN one district or other. If anyone wants to know if people want Dayton removed from either district, 2 polls should be set up. One for 21-4A and the other for 22-4A. Not sure what purpose it would serve. Some might say it is fear of a "local" team missing the playoffs. I would bet that most adults (tax-payers) votes would be based on the mileage which translates to $$$. My vote was to KEEP Dayton in 22-4A, but I'm not on the UIL committee.
  16. I can understand the lack of coverage with TV, radio & web cast. But I can't understand it with the Beaumont Enterprise. If you want to see better coverage of Dayton look in the Port Arthur News or the Baytown Sun. Seeing as Dayton is part of our 4A "district family" I am interested in all the teams and think they should get fairly equal space. A week ago, I read about the Lumberton v. La Marque game play by play. The Dayton v. Texas City write up was more like a few highlights. [Hidden Content] Considering all I said above, I do understand why Lumberton got so much coverage. The very reason you think it is incredible is what make it newsworthy. That and the fan support folks have been writing about on this forum.
  17. Good Luck Dayton. I think you should win this by 2 or 3 TDs. Keep playing your best. WIN STATE.
  18. Congratulations & thanks for the experience. Keep it up.
  19. I've said it before. I would love to see Dayton stay in 22-4A. I hate that you guys get the longest drive.
  20. Dolphin Stadium to hold SETX Playoff Double Header Rematch! Team Owner: H. Wayne Huizenga "Heck, we weren't using it." Special deal, buy a ticket to the Friday Dec. 7th event before Dec 4th and get free roundtrip airfair between Houston and Miami plus ticket to the Saturday game Newton vs. Salado in Austin at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Meanwhile, many locals dissappointed that games will not be played at Cardinal Stadium. Students urged to vote early and vote often in January to approve the proposal to bring back Lamar football.
  21. Maybe we could save space with something like the Saturday monring headlines that COOP started before the week 10 games. Sadly, I will miss all these bonus threads. :'(
  22. My 3 year old daughter votes for the WEREWOLVES. Honestly, I would keep the Raiders and change the mascot back to Yosemite Sam. Trademark & copywrite issues perhaps?
  23. Thanks westend1. You sure brought this back to life. I know this is opinion and not fact but I look at it this way. This thread isn't asking about the coaches or the players or their talent. This subject refers to the TEAM. This group of kids and coaches is definitely the best team. Although, from what I read on wikipedia Lumberton's Lady Raider Soccer is the best team year in and out. ...man, i know this will cost me some karma...
