  1. The kid who was snapping on FG's was playing his very first game of the season, and had only practiced a few days this season.  He is one of the kids who was in the wreck.  Being his first action, coupled with a wet ball for much of the first half may have been the issue.  He will get it together with more practice/reps.  The QB Yowman was snapping on FG's earlier in the season, and it was working fine, but too risky to have your QB doing that.  They will get it corrected.  Also keep in mind that barring a setback, arguably the Top RB (Holland) in the area will be back in a few weeks, so this WB offense has the potential to be even more scarier moving forward.  The other younger RB's has filled in very well, but Holland is special and he is a huge mismatch in the passing game against most anybody's Linebackers.  Another weapon is on the way.

  2. Actually, In Peevey's defense they only had 3 returning starters on defense, and loss one of them. They had at least 7 first year varsity guys starting.  Last year's class was super deep at every position.  That team had about 40+ Seniors.  Were talking about a defense that graduated 5 guys who went to the next level last year, including 3 who went D1 or D1AA.  Of those 3 returning starters, 2 are going to the next level, 1 who played injured all year before he was kicked off the team, and still has a chance to go to the next level, and there were 3 other senior starters, who were on JV last year, who stepped up big this year, and are also going to play at the next level, including 1 player who signed a D1AA Scholarship after only one year of Varsity film.  They were very young this year, especially in the middle, including a sophomore noseguard, who was having to replace a 3 yr starter in Bluiett.  It never got any press but a starting linebacker was kicked off the team about week 5, and they shuffled at least 3 guys in and out trying to replace him, and when they finally found a guy, he got hurt.  Then they ended up moving a guy who has never played the position in his life to MLB, and there were a lot of struggles and bust plays from the younger guys all year, and also from some of the older guys who were getting their first varsity action in HS. Also Ochoa got injured for a stretch of games, and he is the QB of the defense, and makes all the reads, and get the calls in.  When he was down, the bust plays nearly tripled.  It got so bad, that they had to rush him back, when he clearly wasn't 100%.   Peevey's defense last year was the strength of the team.  They played outstanding, and had some players who were very hard to replace.  With that said, I think he will be fine, but I do think he needs to hire some very good, experience coordinators, because with Haynes and Flannigan gone, that was most of the experienced on the staff.

  3. If PA beat North Shore, it will be a 3 way tie for 3.. WB, Channelview/ LaPorte, and PA. If it's Channelview, Since all 3 teams beat each other, PA does not have a tie breaker on WB cause it won't go head to head. Don't know how accurate this is but I was told that PA has to beat North Shore by 18 points to eliminate WB, if LaPorte beat Channelview.  If LaPorte loses to CV, and PA win, WB should be out since they will have lost to both teams they're tied with.  Like I said, don't know if that is correct, but it will come down to scores with common opponents since it will be a 3 way tie with PA, CV, and WB

  4. Not sure how accurate this is but my son told me that they held Hurts to 179 yards passing, which is his lowest total since his sophomore year. 176 of that was in the first half, and he only had 3 yards passing in the 2nd half, although he did do damage with his legs. Once again, I don't know how accurate those #s are but my son plays DB for Brook and that's what one of the coaches told them.

  5. I also want to point out that WB coaches called a hell of a game.  Defensive game plan was amazing, as we often had 4 corners on the field and they were covering like a blanket, forcing hurts to scramble a lot.  They basically held that high powered offense to 24 points, as 1 of their TDs was a pick 6, and another was a KOR for a TD.  To hold that offense averaging 60+ to only 3 TDs was amazing, and even one of those TDs was a blown coverage, as the secondary didn't know we're to lineup at and was trying to call a timeout, but Hurts did a quick snap and burned them.  Great game overall, except for the loss of Baldwin, that will hurt us for sure.  Get well Darby.

  6. Some changes were made on the OLine this week, including a new center.  These boys dominated up front, and Denley was amazing.  I personally know how close him and his grandfather was, and he seemed to be really playing some inspired ball.  I'm sure his grandpa was smiling down on him.  After one of his TDs, he came to the fence, jumped up on the rail and hugged his dad and both of them dropped a few tears, it was a touching moment as several ppl in the strands were sniffling too.  I am so Proud of JoJo, and the entire Denley family, who we're all in attendance like always, including the grandmother.  That is a very strong family.  RIP to Pops, as I always called him, he was certainly JoJo's #1 fan.  Brook Nation gone miss u.  Prayers for the Denley family.

  7. West Brook left points on the field as well.  That fumble on the return was pure effort on Denley part, but how do u think Ozen got the ball to start with, yes it was a WB turnover. Can't highlight one teams mishaps without the other.  I saw WB drop a TD in the end zone, I saw WB drop a pick right in their hands, I saw Boyd pick up a 3rd and long where he had about 5 ppl on him and somehow came out of it. I saw Ozen miss a kickoff that should have easily been recovered by Brook. I saw WB QB with an unforced fumble that just slipped out of his hand. I saw WB work on some things in the redzone when they could have easily punched it in. It's easy to see things in favor of ur team, but reality is Ozen scored 6 points, was shutout in the 2nd half. The one drive when they got in the redzone in the 2nd half several backups were in early in that drive, but Brook came back with the 1's to get the stop.  Brook didn't play a very crisp game either, so just as u think that things could have been better "if", things could have also been worse. Corbin could have had at least 2 more tds if the QB had been on.  Anyway, good game and I agree Ozen is much improved. They need to fix the penalties, fix the secondary (I know they had injuries), and give Tyler the ball more than 8 times.

  8. Lol, im no internet warrior, just stating facts. The replay of the game is up on hudl if u want to go review it to see when the starters came out. I attend almost every practice, coached some of these kids in 7 on 7, so I do know the personnel personally.  But anyway, WB chose to have Spring Ball, and the drawback to that is they have only had about 5 practices in pads with some of the new coaches who were hired after Spring. Also WB only get 1 scrimmage, and that's alot of kids for the coaches to evaluate in a 3 quarter scrimmage. New Coaches, 1st year varsity players, kids on the bubble, yes WB used this scrimmage for exactly what they should use a scrimmage for. They know what the 1's can do, they needed to evaluate the depth. PNG played their 1's the entire game. Congrats on your "win" and best wishes this season. I think u guys will have a great season.

  9. My son was the kid who caught the pick. He is in competition for the starting right corner spot w/ #5.  He actually started the game. When he caught the pick, the 2's were in, except for both him and #5.  Giblin TD came vs 2's front 7, but the secondary players that were in is actually the JV starters.  McZeal TD came vs. the 2nd unit, but the kid covering him will be a 3rd stringer once that competition between #5 & #6 play out. McZeal did drop a wide open TD against the 1's on a blown coverage/miscommunication. PNG will be very good this year. Very good test for WB secondary. I watched Giblin dominate early last year and he didn't look 100% to me tonight. They really didn't target him much. Hard to run against WB front 7 but I think they will be just fine running vs most of the 5A teams.  WB ran primarily on the left side to get there 2 new starters some work. The returning starters and most dominant blockers are on the right but they only ran one play behind them all game and that was the 1st TD.

  10. West Brook hired about 5 coaches this offseason.  And as far as the college players, WB had about 14 Juniors starting last year, and they will definitely have about 10 college kids this year.  Out of the 5-6 seniors who started or played significant time last year, at least 5 of them are playing college ball, and I know 1 for sure that could have, but chose to go to the military..  The #'s are misleading sometimes, but I certainly tip my hat to the Central staff for the efforts they make in trying to get all of their boys in school somewhere.  The have even helped kids from other schools.  #Salute

  11. In my opinion, Westbrook starters should dominate early. However, WB will probably go about 4 deep at each position, because they have a lot of position battles with the 2nd and 3rd units on offense and defense that are unresolved, so I expect a lot of the younger kids to play after the first few possessions.  PNG may leave Morse and the boys in longer, and I truly hope so, so that these younger, inexperienced players can get a true test.  WB will certainly be using this as a true scrimmage to answer some depth questions, look at some kids on the bubble, etc, since this is their one and only scrimmage.
