  1. OK I started some of this and le me be the first to say that yes it did get somewhat out of hand at HJ.  I was sitting close to the group that was having the issue with the HJ Fans.  I think it is safe to say that both were somewhat in the wrong. When the score was getting out of hand I think it was frustration on the OF side, not being sore losers just losing.  Then you have an HJ fan say look at the scoreboard when you heckle the missed dunk. Neither is right in the big picture, but I am sure that on the other side of the court there were probably some things said about OF players that we would not have like to hear either and probably would have taken offense to as well.  The only problem is that HJ fans responded because they did hear and it spiraled out from there because of the heat of the battle.  I spoke to one of the people from OF and he said that he apologized to one of the fans in the front row after the game that had been there for all of the games.  It is like an arguement with a friend and you say something when you are really po'd that you shouldn't.  The reason that I think you should separate is because of this.  If I were sitting on the HJ side and someone said something about my kid I would be upset, but i also know that if I am sitting on the opposing side I should not expect to hear praises for my kid.  I think it hit me this weekend when I saw my nephew's 7-8 year old little dribbler game.  It is just a game and I agree if we act like buffoons what type of example are we/I setting for my kids.  Bottom line is there were 2 good teams on the court one had to lose and that is where the rivalry should be, not in the stands.  Good luck HJ, hope to see you in the playoffs.
  2. I agree, enough said, there are 3 slots and at the end of the day we are in the same district and as long as one of us are left at the end of the year then it is all good. I misspoke Lazeek, I thought that you were the gentleman from HJ that I have seats around at the Lamar games and I have enjoyed his enthusiasm for many games at Lamar. It is amazing that when we are supporting the same team we see it as a passion but when we are on the opposite side of things we are still very passionate about our teams but ALL of us resort to bad things. My only point in the beginning was the volatile situation that could simply be avoided. I agree that this thread got out of hand, I tried several times to tone it down but got more right back at me so of course rather than walk away it is easier just to fire back. This rivalry has many years left in every sport, I am actually more of a football guy anyway and just happened to be at the game last night. With all of this being said, I am sure that most everyone would like to get back to discussions on what truly matters which is next week. Good luck with the rest of the season.
  3. brey would def win trey had a wide open dunk last night against us and got rimed stuffed how pathetic!!!!
  4. Suggestion- Boys on Monday and Friday, Girls Tues and Saturday. that leaves thurs for middle school.
  5. What this also fails to mention is there would have been 6 more freethrows had HJ been able to hit the front end of the bonus. I was really surprised that HJ self destructed after they got the lead late and EC really exposed a weakness in HJ. They did not handle the pressure well and then could not buy a free throw. Either team could have won this game had they have shot better at the free throw line. As an unbiased observer I thought the game was called very well, there were missed calls on both ends of the court, but overall a well officiated game. EC does need to cut down on crazy unforced turnovers and realize that just because you break the press it does not mean you just have to throw up a shot. It was one of the better games that I have seen in a while.
  6. k-ville is horrible, just not alot of talent on the floor.
  7. BC basketball has always been about a time kiiler, in other words, kill time till baseball without having to put forth much effort. In what I have seen and heard all of that has changed since Knight took over. You don't just decide to come back your senior year. he is trying to build a program and alot of times you might have less talent but you have something that they have never been asked to have before which is committment. If these guys continue to play as a team, get better against the press, they are going to surprise this year. that's not to say a playoff spot but remember, he has less talent than they did last year and yet they already have more wins than all of last year. If that does not say something about the guy nothing else we write will.
  8. Why can't you just say that we had a bad night, the better team won, we will work to do better next time. why does there have to be a conspiracy by the refs to take the game? Here is a thought, "man we beat the #1 team in the state, we are awesome, uh oh, we are are losing and going to have to play better, instead of the refs cheated" us. Your team might be one of the best in the area but your fans are some of the biggest whiners to go with it if things do not go your way. It is too bad Coach can't coach you fans on how to win and lose with grace. Coach is a class act and I am sure he would say that his team did not do some things well that could have helped them to win the game.
  9. I think that You are beginning to understand my post. You are so right that it carries over into life. Bobby Knight used to talk about the will to win, but he said that it comes down to the will to prepare to win. It is the same in a game, if you get a bad call, suck it up and get your butt down the floor and make a good play. The era that we have now has created a bunch of whiners and it starts with the parents. I would jerk a knot in my kids butt if he pulled some of the stunts that I see. That is not to say that you have to agree with every call, but if you complain about them all you will never get a call to go your way.
  10. I had a coach once say that if you make all of your free throws and all of your layups, you will never lose a game. My point to the post was that back in the day you did not have all of the belly aching that I see these days on every call. I agree that sometimes a bad call can change the tone of the game but that was not really the point of my post. I have read over and over how the refs cheat this and that yet when I look at the stats a team lost by 5 but they missed 20 free throws. How did the ref cost them a game, poor free throw shooting cost them a game. Very rarely does a play come down to the last whistle, you can think back to one play or more that could have changed things. It also depends upon style of play, if you are overly aggressive on defense such as full press, all of that, you are going to typically have more fouls than someone who lays back in a zone. You need to accept that as a fact of the game, does not mean the refs were out for anyone. I have yet to see a team in this area play perfect defense, there is always alot of reaching and such. Some refs may call a tighter game than others but it is up to the players and coaches to adjust to the game. I will yell at the officials just as loud as the next guy but ultimately at the end of each game I can go back and look at things that we could have done in spite of the calls. I watch a game yesterday where a kid griped after each call, even after shoving a kid from behind on a fast break, yet he was still whining. This just creates bad things as these kids get older. I played competitive for over 10 years, never agreed with every call but did not swivel my head on each call either, it is just part of the game. I did learn that if a ref is calling a tighter game then adjust to it, otherwise get ready to eat popcorn on the bench.
  11. I have gone to alot of basketball games in my life to include pro and college. I am amazed at how in today's basketball world no one seems to think that they ever commit a foul. If a foul is called, it must be a homer call, not the fact that maybe instead of playing good defense I was reaching or maybe I was to lazy to slide my feet and so the ref punished me with a foul. I understand that there are going to be bad calls, but it just seems like everyone can't wait to get on here and complain about officiating if they lose. Rather than accept the fact tht another team was better on that night I suppose that it is much easier to blame it on the refs. Quit whining and work on your skills.
  12. What I thought was interesting was how empty the BC stands got compared to the OF side. BC does not and will not support a losing program even if it is football. I understand that BC is a very young team also but it sure was good to put that kind of a beting on them. I thinks we will really see how upset the parents will get this week as they second guess everything from who's playing to the music the band plays.
  13. I did not mean to get this out of hand, I was going by the info that was posted, 3 pt shooting contest for the girls, dunk contest for the guys. If it was just supposed to be for the students then it was truly a success but I thought that the intention was to get the community involved with Lamar sports. The comment was made that we led the league in attendance but 2-3k but this area is still not really behind the basketball program. As I said earlier I support the basketball program 110%, I just thought due to the timing of the event which kicks off the basketball season it was going to be more about basketball. I like the direction that we are heading, maybe it was a little strong about building the program comment. I was not talking about the other sports I was speaking about basketball. Coach Roc has the potential to go onto bigger events, I would like for him and the players to know that this area will support a men's program here in Beaumont.
  14. the team looked really good last night. It was amazing to actually see some athletes out on the floor that could get up down the floor, jump and actually look like they wanted to be there. Roc has done an amzing job getting these guys in here, I hope that people get out and support these guys. As a basketball guy I would love to be able to go out and actually see a good college game.
  15. I'm not trying to be negative, just that when you look at what midnight madness is supposed to be we were not in the ballgame. Having the teams go through layup drills is not madness. I thought that they advertised a dunk contest and such. I will say that both of the teams looked good, just wanted to see more basketball not the PA announcer screaming not to leave so that the president could play the saxaphone.
  16. It was pretty disapointing last night, they spent more time introducing other programs than showcasing the basketball team. It was so bad they were begging people not to leave. Girls shooting contest vs baseball, guys did layups, thanks for coming. It is no wonder we we can't build a program in this area.
