  1. Which goes to show you just how well Moody knew his players.
  2. I think its a great rule and should have been put into place when they moved the age cut-off from Aug 1 to May 1. This movement helped the younger players, i.e. 5 and 6 year olds who weren't physically or emotionally mature enough to play with kids more their age, particularly the ones whose birthdays fell in the June and July time-frame. They were the youngest of the two-year age bracket. But it was not and is not good for those in the older age groups, particularly the 12-14 year olds. Under the Aug 1 birthday cut-off date there were very few age/grade mis-matches. Most kids who are 11 and 12 are in 5th and 6th grade. Most kids who were 13 and 14 were in 7th and 8th grade. There would be a few examples of kids who were 11 but in fourth grade, those who are 13 but in 6th grade, etc. Now the opposite is true but with a greater number. When the new age cut-off occured, I know of a number of players who were in 7th grade but were playing a 3rd year in Bronco as 12 year olds. So basically there were a number of kids who didn't get to play ball with their classmates and friends and they lost out on development opportunity. What this means is that you only get one year of Pony ball (13-14 year olds) before starting your freshman year of high school ball. For developmental purposes, two years of Pony ball before high school is a lot better than just one. Previously the only way to get around this was to leave the Pony league and go play select ball. Now those players have an option to get their two years in before high school ball. Of course you can argue that those players playing freshman ball can still play their 2nd year in Pony, but no serious ball player should go back to playing on a 54/80 field once they start playing on a 60/90. Plus the idea is to get the 2 year development in BEFORE starting high school. This is a good rule change and should benefit the league. And for those parents who push their kids too hard, too soon: they'll learn, sooner or later they'll learn.
  3. After seeing the Bears play both teams, I'm going with the Dawgs. It took the whole game for Livingston to put 50 on the board against us while Big Ned did it in a half. Livingston has more speed that the Dawgs won't be able to contain all night but overall I think Nederland's a better team. The Dogs are also bigger which should play a factor. Plus, so far in district, playing LCM assures defeat..... the week after. Nederland 35, Livingston 21.
  4. It's not good being predictable but defense is what ultimately wins championships. For all of the offense that Dan Marino of the Dolphins, Dan Fouts of the Chargers (Air Coryell) and Peyton Manning of the Colts have generated, they have a staggering total of 1 Super Bowl ring between them.
  5. What's really sad for the seniors is that, except for last year, they really aren't use to losing. In Junior High they went 4-2 and 7-1. As Freshmen they went something like 4-3 (at worst they went .500). As sophmores on JV they went 6-3 (Nederland game got rained out). Too many good players didn't come back to play their junior and senior years. And you can't blame the baseball program. Most of the players on the junior high team who went baseball-only did that their freshmen year, so the football team was already playing without them their freshman and sophmore years and did well. One of the players who went baseball-only his freshman year (or better put, didn't play football his freshman and sophmore year) didn't play football because he had Tommy John surgery. He also happened to have been the quarterback. And he was a good one.
  6. Still trying to get rid of the WOS OC???? Saw a lot of that on this board last year. What's up with that? I'd say with the winning record WOS has he must be doing something right.
  7. The LCM players certainly do deserve everyones respect and admiration. Even being down 34-0 they never quit, never gave up, never stopped trying, playing to the very end with enthusiasm. I'm really proud of my son and his efforts along with all of his teamates.
  8. That would be a very generous, outstanding, and extremely classy thing to do. It will also be greatly appreciated. And don't worry, if they kick you out of your stands, you can come sit next to me. You can even continue rooting for the Mustangs!
  9. Who was the last good kicker that you recall?
  10. I think Coach Dan must have loaded up his players on the bus after the Nederland game and evacuated them to San Antonio. I could have sworn I saw them practicing today. I hope they don't cancel the LCM-WOS game. Both teams may not be as prepared as they would like to be but the whole idea is to play. You just don't want to cancel a rivalry game such as this. It would also be nice if the subvarsity teams could get rescheduled and play but I guess that's not likely to happen.
  11. At least 4 of the 5 LCM Offensive Lineman from '07 are currently in the Marine Corps. This includes Dustin Kemp and David Morgan. I don't remember the names of the other two Marines.
  12. Is Cherokee the song by Paul Revere and the Raiders? I think it goes something like this.... They took the whole Cherokee nation Put us on this reservation.... Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe So proud to live, so proud to die.... ?
  13. I don't care what offensive scheme anyone comes up with, DEFENSE is what wins championships. Any team that runs this offense, if they can't play defense, they may win some games, but no championships.
  14. Heard that Winnie won, Orange lost.
  15. I'll answer this one. Yes. 7th Grade A team beat Central by 1 or 2 points (33-31 o 33-32). LC blocked a last second shot by Central.
  16. And kudos to the Vidor cop who prevented the LCM mom from seeing what was wrong with her son while he was being looked at by the trainer after the game. She was told she was trespassing. I heard that he had a dislocated shoulder.
  17. There will be no JV game tonight between Vidor and LCM due in part to several Vidor JV players being moved up to Varsity to fill in for injured varsity players. As such.... BOJO will be alive and well Friday night. The Black Pearl goes to the bottom of the sea. LCM76's FEARLESS PREDICTION: LCM 28, VIDOR 14
  18. Who on any of the LCM teams (9th, JV, Varsity) originated from WOS? I don't know of any on Varsity.
  19. From what I saw in football and track on the junior high level, Lumberton's junior class has a number of outstanding athletes.
  20. Last night LCM vs. PNG, PNG muffed the punt reception, LCM recovered and ran it into the end zone. However the ball was ruled down at the point where the LCM player recovered the ball, LCM's ball.
