  1. If anything you were insulting West Orange-Stark players and fans, implying we disrespect other Southeast Texas teams.  EVERY local team has fans that put out smack talk against local competitors during the regular season but from my 20+ years of experience the communities tend to always come together when the postseason arrives.  I have no ill-will towards neither any individual nor any team, but just like you, I hope for my team to win.

  2. I didn't even read your post!! By the way my name is Larry Brister, nice to meet you, I would hate for you to be insulting a total stranger. There is nothing about a bunch of kids playing high school football that can embarass me, I've been a player and coach, I don't live through a bunch of 17 year olds. To be honest I respect the WOS players and coaches, but what I said is accurate. ;)

    How was I insulting you?

  3. Baddog, I believe barring injury WOS will win state. And when the playoffs start they will want the whole area to come help back the Stangs. Then when next season starts they will get on here and and talk about every team in the area and throw records in everyones' faces as a way of saying thank you to everyone who went and helped back the Stangs. ;) Just kidding of course. ;D

Hey!  I was there when French won state in 1984 (kinda... they were co-champs), I was there when PN-G played Stephenville in 1999 in the 4A State Finals, I was there when Nederland made it to the Semis in 2001.

I totally support any team from SE Texas in the Playoffs.

If you're questioning my use of statistics in backing up my point I invite you to do the same for whichever team you follow.  No one is stopping you...  If people are tired about WO-S fans using stats to backup their arguments then either you are too lazy to research your own team's stats OR you're too embarrassed to post the stats that you have!!

  4. I say WO-S should just concede the title to the Tigers...  There's no way we'll have a chance given our past history of never losing a district game against them EVER.   8)

...and if we do it won't really matter since Silsbee goes DI and WO-S goes DII    ;D

Just as I said to the Nederland fans...   Good luck!!

You've gotta earn respect, you don't get it just because a newsreporter says you deserve it.

  5. Thanks for proving my point. And should Nederland win this year, we will be graced with this same list...plus one.  ;D

Hey, I was wrong. It was a shutout in 2001.   ;)

    Good luck to you too!!

I do see a definite trend though...  Not to be pompous  ;D

    2001 WO-S lost by 35

    2002 WO-S lost by 21

    2003 WO-S lost by 4

    2004 WO-S won by 2

    2005 WO-S won by 10

    2008 WO-S won by 20

  6. You people carry your record books in your hip pocket. ;D

Every year is a different season. I guess after we whipped you 35-10 (excuse me if that's wrong. I'm sure you have it handy), I'm supposed to predict a 25 point win the following year? Not hardly, I'm not that pompous, but it was three in a row, should have been four!

You're dang right we do!! ;D

We had a winning streak of our own from 1980-1995 (16 consecutive on-the-field wins) and since then have won 6 to your 5.

    WO-S 23 wins, Nederland 7 wins (1 by forfeit)

    Average Score: WO-S 25.8, Nederland 16.1

Nederland has only beaten WO-S once when WO-S was ranked in the AP (2002)

WO-S has NEVER had an enrollment larger than Nederland in the 32 year history of the school

You're right... every year is a new season.  Again Good Luck!

  7. Still waiting on activation also.

WOS if you go to pngindians.com under traditions there is a picture of the crowd for the '99 Stephenville State Championship game. If you want to link to it or post the picture on that 5a site.

Thanks!  I posted several of the 1999 pics... they're all imprinted with the website from which they came so I'm assuming I won't get into copyright trouble from it?

  8. Nederland historically plays well in week zero in big games.  Go back and check the history under Neumann.  Either way, they ain't losing by at least 21.  That ain't happenin.  Haven't seen you post in a while Majestyk, good to hear from you.

Huh?!?  Nederland has gone an underwhelming 3-4 in opening games since 2002 including a 13-33 loss to WO-S in Week 0 in 2008

WO-S has played a bit better in Week 0 games over the same period going 6-1 with the only loss being by 2 points to #2 ranked and eventual State Finalist Jasper in 2004.  We also knocked off eventual local 4A district champ Dayton in Week 0 games in BOTH 2006 and 2007 (a team which Ned lost to 7-35 in '06 and 0-63 in '07).

Since the school opened WO-S is 26-5-1 in 32 opening games.  That's one more loss than Nederland has had in the past 7 years.

    Again....  Good Luck!

  9. If my memory and history are correct we had a 3 year winning streak (2001-2003). That was enough time for Hooks to go bald scratching his head and wondering what the heck went wrong. I always enjoyed playing WOS. Great discipline and definately the D is what kept that team together throught the years. I remember the game in WOS when we came from behind to win was exhausting. That was a great "never-say-die" effort by both teams. NED just had the upperhand. But yes, overall, WOS has the better record. That doesn't always equal a better team and a "W."

If my memory and history are correct we had a 16 year winning streak (1980-1995) against Nederland and have had a MORE RECENT 3 game winning streak (2004, 2005 and 2008) as well.

We also have an active 7 game winning streak against PN-G (something Ned has never done in 84 years)...

...and an active 6 game winning streak against Silsbee.

    ;)

    ;D ;D ;D

Good luck to all in '09

  10.   Exactly . there's a chance. I think it will be closer than some people think.

    We shall see...

WO-S is 25-0 against Golden Triangle teams (meaning Orange and Jefferson County teams) since 2003.  Nederland is not a team to be written off by any means as they did beat us 3 consecutive years from 2001-2003 and we had a couple of very close wins in '04 and '05 so I'm sure the team and coaching staff will definitely take the Bulldogs seriously.

I'm hoping it won't be any more exciting than last years game but you never know.    ;)

    Good luck!

  11. If you check out the link at the top of the original thread the list only includes programs with >64.5% winning percentages.  Barbers Hill is the only other local program to make the list, coming in at #706

  13. Entire OL is back, championship experience goes along way.  just to name a few

The WO-S coaching staff has a heck of a lot more "championship experience" than Carthage as last year was the Bulldog's first title ever and only their 2nd State Championship appearance ever.  The majority of the senior players at WO-S have also had quite a bit of playoff experience facing #1 Giddings in 2007, Waco La Vega in 2007 and Gilmer in 2008.

  14. In 32 seasons WO-S STILL only has two opponents that have ever played them more than once and have a winning record against them (C.E. King and La Marque).  Our coaching staff are some of the best in the state when it comes to analyzing football strategy against a new opponent and quickly coming up with an appropriate defense.

    Two major examples:

Ennis lead 31-0 at Halftime in the 2000 4A State Finals and WO-S outscored them 24-7 in the 2nd half

Gilmer lead 28-8 at Halftime last year in the Regional Semis and WO-S outscored them 15-7 in the 2nd half

A rematch with Gilmer would be a tough game but I wouldn't count WO-S out by any means!

  15. Dave has Carthage @ # 2 and WO-S @ # 3.But in this bracket he has WO-S over Carthage. Is it because Gilmer would play us first if they were D2 and feels WO-S would be out before playing Carthage???

They did the same thing last year with Kirbyville.  The answer is that the DCTF rankings are actually the Padilla Poll rankings (set by Carl Padilla).

The DCTF bracket predictions are picked by the actual DCTF staff and don't necessarily follow the rankings listed in the same magazine, which is why there are differences.  I thought it was strange last year too.
