  1. Who says Silsbee and WO-S will stay in the same district? There's a good chance we won't with realignment coming up... WO-S and Silsbee have only been aligned in the same district 4 out of the past 16 years, and we've been in the exact same classification the entire time.... In 30 years Silsbee's never beaten WO-S in a district game so why should anyone believe that's gonna change any time soon?
  2. The cutoff between 4A and 5A has risen drastically over the past 20 years as you can see from an old post that's in the historical section... SE Texas Realignment History In 1984 the cutoff between 4A and 5A was 1305... they're predicting that the cutoff for the next realignment will be over 2000.... Nederland's peak enrollment was at right about 1700 in the late 90's.... This post will show you who was in which district every year going back to the early 50's.... District records by season

  6. You also have to take in to consideration that those two opponents that Silsbee held to only 7 combined points are a combined 0-10 for the season. WO-S has held their two district opponents to a combined 14 points and they are a combined 7-3.
  7. Unless there are several unexpected upsets, the Silsbee-WOS game is not going to mean anything in the playoff picture as Silsbee will be going Division I and WO-S should get the top spot from the district in Division II no matter who wins.
  8. Not so... as it says at the beginning of the post, the games vs. the team in question are not added in. Those numbers are the records with the losses already taken out.... EC would therefore be 10-16 with the losses added back in... Shepherd 0-5 minus the loss to EC = 0-4 Orangefield 0-5 minus the loss to EC = 0-4 Hamshire-Fannett 3-2 minus the loss to EC = 3-1 Hardin-Jefferson 3-2 minus the loss to EC = 3-1 Deweyville 4-2 minus the loss to EC = 4-1 0-4 + 0-4 + 3-1 + 3-1 + 4-1 = 10-11
  9. If somehow La Grange can beat out Bellville and Navasota for the 3rd playoff spot in District 23, Giddings will go Division I (assuming Giddings and Caldwell nab the top 2 spots). In 5A, it will all depend on which division West Brook ends up relative to Katy. If they are in different Divisions, I think West Brook could easily make a 3 or 4 round run, if not more. In 4A, whichever team goes Division I should have the easier road early on in the playoffs without a doubt, but #1 Copperas Cove will be Division I, possibly waiting in the finals. In 3A, Division I should also be quite a bit easier. 7 of the 15 undefeated teams in the state are in Region III, and the way it's looking now, all 7 of them are going to end up Division II (La Vega, China Spring, Diboll, Liberty Hill, Giddings, Caldwell, & Columbus). Whoever survives Region III will likely have Cuero and then Celina waiting next. In 2A, the Division I team has to get by Marlin and Tatum, and the Division II teams have an even tougher task trying to knock off Mart. In 1A, I don't think there are even any 2A teams that could challenge Alto in Division I. In Division II, the field is open in Regions III and IV.
  10. Of all the current unbeaten teams in the area, Nederland is the only one that has a strength of schedule over 50%. Combined records of opponents (Strength of Schedule) thru Week 5: (games vs. the team in question are not added in, otherwise it skews it downward for the more successful teams, i.e. Ned's would be 14-12, Buna 4-22, Lumberton 4-21) Undefeated teams Nederland 14-7 (67%) East Chambers 10-11 (48%) Hardin 12-15 (44%) Kelly 8-13 (38%) Lumberton 4-16 (20%) Buna 4-17 (19%) Among the leaders in the area: Vidor 17-3 (85%) - 4 of their 5 opponents are undefeated Dayton 15-6 (71%) Hamshire-Fannett 14-6 (70%) Nederland 14-7 (67%) Bridge City 13-7 (65%) Newton 10-6 (63%) PN-G 13-8 (62%) Orangefield 12-8 (60%) Jasper 11-8 (58%) WO-S 11-9 (55%) Central 11-9 (55%) Pt Arthur Memorial 11-9 (55%) LC-M 11-10 (52%) Kirbyville 10-10 (50%) Ozen 10-10 (50%) East Chambers 10-11 (48%) Hardin 12-15 (44%) West Brook 9-12 (43%) Kelly 8-13 (38%) Hardin-Jefferson 7-14 (33%) Silsbee 4-15 (21%) Lumberton 4-16 (20%) Buna 4-17 (19%)
  11. ?? It's because there IS statistical representation of quality of opponent that that team with a loss ended up above three teams that are undefeated. Just because a potentially 5th place team starts off the season going 2-0 by beating the 7th and 8th place teams, doesn't make them better than a 2nd place team that loses to the 1st place team and starts off 1-1.
  12. I crunched a few numbers today and these are just how the teams rank in each of the two districts using the results of all 8 district games that have been played so far. It's the optimum relative strength of each team that in retrospect would most closely explain the outcome of every game played so far. If so inclined, you can use the numbers to make predictions. Determining the difference of the numbers below for any two teams within a district should give you the predicted margin of victory or loss when those two teams play. The 21-3A numbers match the actual margins of victory for every district game played +/- 1.25 points! The error in 22-4A is a little more at +/- 5.50 points. 21-3A (best fit using results of all district games thru 2 weeks of round-robin play) 1. 54.25 - West Orange-Stark (beat H-F by 27, beat Kvile by 24) 2. 42.25 - Silsbee (beat OF by 41, beat BC by 42) 3. 29.00 - Kirbyville (beat Jasper by 15, lost to WOS by 24) 4. 28.50 - Hamshire-Fannett (lost to WOS by 27, beat H-J by 29) 5. 12.75 - Jasper (lost to Kville by 15, beat OF by 10) 6. 1.50 - Orangefield (lost to Silsbee by 41, lost Jasper by 10) 7. 0.75 - Hardin-Jefferson (beat BC by 2, lost to H-F by 29) 8. 0.00 - Bridge City (lost to H-J by 2, lost to Silsbee by 42) 22-4A (best fit using results of all district games thru 2 weeks of round-robin play) 1. 42.5 - Dayton (lost to Lumberton by 1, beat Ozen by 33) 2. 38.0 - Lumberton (beat Dayton by 1, beat Vidor by 19) 3. 29.0 - Nederland (beat Vidor by 21, beat Central by 11) 4. 22.5 - Port Neches-Groves (beat Ozen by 2, beat LCM by 28) 5. 15.0 - Beaumont Ozen (lost to PNG by 2, lost to Dayton by 33) 6. 13.5 - Vidor (lost to Ned by 21, lost to Lumberton by 19) 7. 12.5 - Beaumont Central (beat LCM by 7, lost to Ned by 11) 8. 0.00 - Little Cypress-Mauriceville (lost to Central by 7, lost to PNG by 28) Before anyone starts attacking, these rankings are not necessarily how I particularly feel teams actually rank. It's purely a statistical fit counting the results of each game played equally. (Yes, I realize Lumberton beat Dayton, but Dayton being ahead of Lumberton by 4.5 pts compared to Lumberton winning by 1 pt is within the error of 5.5 points.)
  13. Very well said... Lumberton is 5-0-0 currently. At this point of the season last year, playing the exact same teams, Lumberton was 4-1-0 and ended the year 4-6-0. The next 5 games will tell the tale.
  14. If Kirbyville and H-F can knock off Silsbee, WO-S would go Division I.... would be a much less difficult route to the finals...
  15. I've never been one to make predictions but did I hit the nail on the head or what? The rest of the district needs to keep their eyes on Hamshire-Fannett. They won handily over a 3-1 Hardin-Jefferson 35-6. I wouldn't be surprised if they sneak in to a 2nd or 3rd place spot in the district. In 2006, remember they almost beat Silsbee, losing 7-13 and this year's group is much improved. Good luck to all over the coming weeks! 8)

  21. If I recall... Newton didn't fall after they lost their first game to Crockett... the loss to Carthage was your 2nd loss. If WO-S loses a 2nd time they will most definitely fall as well!

  23. It all sounds like same story, second verse to me... except, the second time around is even less exciting than the first Does no one remember 2006? Last year we heard the same hype about the unstoppable offense that scored 51 points against Cleveland (only 27 this year), 48 points against Liberty (just 38 this year) and 28 points against Jasper (only 21 tonight...) After 4 games in 2006 Kirbyville had scored 141 points against 4 teams with a combined 5-12 record. After 4 games in 2007 Kirbyville has scored 113 points against 4 teams with a combined 5-12 record. What exactly is so improved this year? Liberty scored 20 against Kirbyville in an 18 point loss last week (20 to 38). This is a team that Hamshire-Fannett beat by 18 points as well and held to less points, suggesting the H-F defense possibly could be as strong or maybe even a bit stronger. If we can score 5 TDs against H-F, we should be able to do the same against Kirbyville if not better.
