  1. WO-S adjusted to the spread offense over a halftime in the 2000 State Finals against Ennis... I believe that was the first modern spread offense team we'd ever come up against. Ennis was ahead 31-0 after two quarters. WO-S outscored them 24-7 in the second half. Unfortunately it wasn't quite enough.

  3. Luckily WO-S has a powerhouse defense of their own.... so far this season we're on pace to have the best defensive record since the 2000 State Finalists WO-S: Total Points Allowed after 3 games 2007 - 29 - only 7 points total scored in the 2nd half 2006 - 35 2005 - 66 2004 - 72 2003 - 34 2002 - 58 2001 - 91 2000 - 24 Average Points Allowed per game (among all 51 Region III-3A teams) 1. It's happened before in similar circumstances.

  6. Also in the historical forum... link--->Southeast Texas Football History by District and Season ...but I have a feeling most people don't realize these are even there. This is all of the games I have for 22-5A for the 1984 season... I'm missing 5 of the 10 scores for French for the regular season but I know who won each game, and I know who the opponent was for all except weeks 2 and 3. The 1-0, 0-1 and 1-1 are indicators of wins, losses or ties for games that I don't know the actual scores. French actually tied with WO-S for 2nd place in district that year but they got the 2nd playoff spot due to beating us in the head-to-head match. I remember that WO-S still had a chance to make the playoffs going into week 10 if French were to lose to B-C-P, which of course was an EXTREMELY unlikely event, and didn't happen... the ironic thing was the very next year, B-C-P came out of nowhere, and demolished French 35-7 in week 10 of 1985, stealing the 2nd playoff spot away from both West Brook and defending state champ French. French was the 3rd 22-5A team to face Odessa Permian in the State Finals in less than 10 years. PN-G beat them in 1975, TJ lost to them in 1980, and French tied them in 1984. I've got the district results just like the one above for over 100 different districts/seasons including the results for every largest classification district in SE Texas back to 1951 except for 1980 and 1981....

  8. I did Nederland all the way back to their first District Title in 1937. Prior to that, I'm not 100% on the district numbers and the district opponents so I stopped there. One amazing thing I noticed about Nederland after doing this is that they have only gone winless in district 1 time in 70 years. I would imagine that not many programs around could claim that.
  9. My class of 86-87 had 297 in the graduating class
  10. There have been 5 classes from 1951 until now.... prior to 1980 there was Class B, 1A, 2A , 3A and 4A In 1980 they got rid of Class B and essentially promoted every class up a grade. It was a change in name only as all B schools became 1A, 1A became 2A, 2A became 3A, 3A became 4A and 4A became 5A. Lumberton hasn't been 2A since the 1970's. They were 4A in the 1980 realignment. LC-M hasn't actually moved up a classification since 1970 when they moved from 2A to 3A (or 3rd largest to 2nd largest classification). In 1980 3A became 4A so if you want to call that a move up okay... in actuality they have remained in the 2nd largest classification nonstop for 38 consecutive seasons.
  11. If you think about it, the vast majority of schools in the entire area have dropped down at least one classification in the past 20-30 years and I can't think of any that have actually moved up in size without merging with another school. In 1969, there were 13 Largest Classification schools in the area divided in to two 4A districts (TJ, Lincoln, PN-G, Nederland, Silsbee, Vidor, Stark, Charlton-Pollard, Forest Park, South Park, Hebert, French and Beaumont High) The remnants of those schools are now 5A: PA Memorial (TJ + Lincoln + a 3rd smaller school SFA) 5A: West Brook (Forest Park + South Park + Hebert) 4A: Beaumont Central (French + Charlton-Pollard + Beaumont High) 4A: PN-G 4A: Nederland 4A: Vidor 3A: Silsbee 3A: WO-S (Stark + a smaller West Orange)
  12. It hasn't been as huge of a drop as it may seem on the surface... as of the beginning of this school year the High school had an enrollment of 697. Orange County Enrollment figures I believe the highest the school ever had was only a little above 1300 back in the late 1970's, early 1980's. Stark High School was always one of the smallest 4A schools back in the day and even dropped down to 3A in 1962-1963 which is when they made it all the way to the state semifinals. Back in 1962 the cutoff between 3A and 4A was 950, so Stark had to have an enrollment less than 950 at the time. Stark dropped back down to 3A from 1974-1976. West Orange High never was bigger than a small to average sized 3A school. So when the schools merged in 1977 it was a merger of two 3A schools. The cutoff to be a large classification school was only 1220. In 1985, which was WO-S' last year in 5A the 4A/5A cutoff was 1305. So the max the school ever got was probably the very first year the schools merged and it has been dropping slowly ever since, as the population of the town has dropped over the same period of time. As recently as the 2000 realignment the number was still 1010. Orange (town) population 1960 25,605 Stark High enrollment 950-1000 1970 24,457 Stark High enrollment 1000-1100 1980 23,628 WO-S enrollment 1300-1400 1990 19,370 WO-S enrollment 1100-1200 2000 18,643 WO-S enrollment 1010 2006 17,891 WO-S enrollment 700-800
