  1. Lord please wrap your arms around this child and give him strength and healing.
  2. You are in our prayers Todd. Hope everything goes your way.
  3. Hey man,  my name is Tom Bowser.  I haven't heard anything about your health in a while and just wanted you to know you're still in my prayers and I hope if you're not well,  you are at least feeling much better.  God bless you and your family.

Thanks, Tom.  I am feeling much better.  I am starting to get my strength back and the docs say I am well ahead of my recovery curve.

      Thanks again for your prayers.

  4. We've been beating larger schools in predistrict for over 35 years. I've had men from those larger schools tell me how much they admired and respected Curtis Barbay because he would have them down 40-0 at half and the final score would be 47-0. They would tell me he could have put 100 on the board if he wanted to. They would tell me how lucky I was to have played for a coach like that. Coach Johnston feels the same way. These are kids that he's trying to teach life lessons to. And personally , I think we could use a whole lot more respect for each other instead of trying to embarass an inferior opponent. Just because there are more kids in the school has nothing to do with how administration and coaches run the football program. And I believe Kirbyville is a perfect example of that. I believe they are on the right track now but the last few years haven't been a very good example of how a program should be run.
  5. Alright dawgs ! Let's keep working hard and keep the wins coming !
  6. Newton threw for 2000 yds last year and when you consider we averaged over 50 pts a game, passing wasn't really needed after the first half in most games. I would say say Foster is one of the best 2 or 3 passing qb's Newton has ever had. We lost a good wr in Williams but we've got a couple new guys that really looked good after catching the ball jast week and we are real strong at tight end. All this is without mentioning T Brown. I believe this will be the best passing team we've ever had. But I've been wrong many times.
  7. What a game. I'd loved to have seen that one. Those kids from Troup learned a life lesson that they will never forget. Congrats to them.
  8. Believe me. Coach Johnston took no joy in beating those boys like that. He did everything he could to keep the score down. I don't believe he threw a pass in the second half. The reserves have worked just as hard as the starters and you can't expect them to give less than their best. I hope the Cats can look back on this some day and say this is where the turnaround started. They have some talent. They just need to keep working hard and better days will be ahead. I wish them luck
  9. I think Newton may have the best team it's ever had. Having said that I'm not taking anything for granted. Silsbee played a tough opponent and will improve a lot because of it. Plus they also have speed. I think my guys will win but I wouldn't be surprised if Silsbee showed a lot of improvement
  10. Would love to see Silberman undefeated when they come to Newton but the Reservation is one of the toughest venues in Southeast Texas for a visitor to win. And RJ is pure stud.
  11. Hate to see any kids go through what the Cats have had forced on them the last couple years. Maybe this coach is in the right place at the right time to lead these guys to their full potential. Looks like he also believes in Curtis Barbay's theory that you only get better playing better teams. I hope they stay healthy and get this thing turned around. I believe it's more fun for everyone when all Southeast Texas teams are playing well. Go Eagles!
  12. Congrats to these outstanding young men. 39.80 is flying and any time you set a national record that's something you can be proud of for a life time. Really proud of these young men and how they have represented our area. Hard work is the answer.
  13. Thanks Tod, but that won't shut him up. His sick ego requires him to intrude where he knows he's not wanted so that he can meet his need for attention.
  14. I would bet that jwalker knows more about football than anyone who's not a coach on this site. If it's September and he tells you it's Easter , you better go dye your eggs
  15. Halfway through the 3rd quarter there were more people from Newton there.
  16. In my humble opinion ( which doesn't mean squat ) I think Coach Johnston made a mistake by not playing WOS. Coach Barbary played them many times knowing we were going to get 40 hung on us. I have tremendous respect for Coach Hooks for giving us the opportunity to play them. He had nothing to gain and a lot to lose by playing a smaller school. Coach Thompson also has my respect and doesn't owe us a damn thing. I don't blame him for taking the position he's taken however much I would like to see the game played for the fans. I'd rather have a scheduling problem than be everybody's homecoming game like we were before Coach Lidney Thompson and Curtis Barbary got here.
  17. RJ on offense and Corbin on D. T Brown has a chance to win it next year and Corbin has been a great example of what a student athlete can be.
  18. It's Sunday morning Todd and I just wanted you to know I'll be sending prayers your way today. Hope your feeling as well as possible. Keep your faith cause everything is going to work out. See my old team mate jimmy sent you a message yesterday. We're all praying for ya. Hope you have a great day.
  19. We wouldn't have you in Newton. We don't bad mouth other towns and their kids
  20. Corbin Foster was 1st team MLB last year, had a better year this year and didn't even make honorable mention. They came up with 17 linebackers supposedly better than him. What a joke the AP is. Tam Brown is as good a defensive back or wide receiver as there is in 3A. He got robbed also. I guess not playing in the 2nd half of most games hurt Barlow.
  21. Hey Tod, been thinking about ya a lot. Just wanted to check in let you know your in my prayers every day. We all really appreciate what you have allowed us to do. (Mostly show our ignorance) and talk sports. After your playing days are over, talking and lying about what you once did is all that's left. This web site is such a great release for so many people. We all love Southeast Texas football and talking about it. For that we are all praying that God will wrap his arms around you and give you the healing you need. I hope you have a good day Buddy. God Bless.
  22. Newton and Hemphill on a yellow dog all the way to Anderson on a school night? About 26 miles from College Station. 165 miles from Hemphill to Anderson. No way that's right.
  23. Coach Johnston's interview after winning his 1st state championship
