  1. And we support the mighty mustangs. Really hope they prove a lot of people wrong and go to Dallas
  2. So sorry for your horrible loss. I too believe you will see him again. Until then I pray God will wrap his arms around your family and give you peace and strength.
  3. I was there when they played in 1959. Belleville had UT running back Ernie Koy and was favored. Think Jasper put a pretty good whooping on them that night.
  4. Coach Johnston treats his players like his sons. Whatervever happens in this situation, Brown will come out a better man having been mentored by Coach Johnston
  5. Newton makes playoffs for 26th straight year but it's ignored because everyone takes them for granted. Great job guys.
  6. New Waverly had one first down that wasn't by penalty.
  7. 51 years ago Huntington kept me from going undefeated in 8th grade basketball. Guess maybe it's time to let it go. Good luck Red Devils, hope you make history
  8. Is Morse playing anywhere ? Young man has loads of talent.
  9. The 99 team had great OL, Defense, Special teams, and kicker. Haven't got to see Shug play but the video I've seen I'd have to say he might be the best to ever come out of this area. Someone please remind me of someone better. I'm old and my memory might be bad
  10. If teams could throw on Newton don't you think they would ? Duh ?
  11. Dustin is the only one I saw play. Had a step daughter in his class and saw everyone of his games from 7th grade on. He would have had more completions his senior season if the wr's hadn't quit on him so many times. They would stop running and he would overthrow them 10 yds. It happened every single game his senior year. Made me so made I didn't know what to do.
  12. As soon as they turn 16 their parents will buy them new Mustangs GTs, Camaros , or jacked up 4wheel drive pickup trucks so they can keep up with their neighbor's kids. As long as the kids are spoiled the way they are in BC and there's no winning tradition like PNG, the kids aren't interested in putting in the work to have a winning program. I have family there and watched the boys and their friends all quit after their sophomore year because "it wasn't fun." This is only my opinion based on my experience with my family and their friends. But I blame the parents for spoiling their kids rotten. I know not every family is the same.
  13. Coach Barbay making the school superintendent and some school board members look pretty bad right now. Keep up the good work Dawgs !
  14. I was thinking about that stinging grass the other day. My junior year we started two-a-days on that field and that grass was down right painful. Before school started we moved to the present facilities and I think they just cut down some trees and graded it. The practice field had small boulders that were really tough on your elbows. It really was like playing in a parking lot.
  15. My 8th grade team at Jasper suited up 16 in Lufkin in 1966. My Dad counted 108 suited out for Lufkin. When they lined up for calesthentics, they lined up all the way to our 40 yd line. We were in 4 lines of 4. Before the the game my Dad came down to the back of the bench and said "Whatever y'all do don't get in a fight !" We won the game the game 20-12. The next year we integrated and beat them 34-12. They had almost 7 times the players we had so it shows greater numbers don't guarantee a win. This was one of his favorite stories.
  16. We'll play in a cow pasture as long as we can play a game.
  17. 10 per cent higher than second place !! That is sick. Everyone who had a part in this record should be very, very proud. We're talking about the most important thing in the whole great state of TEXAS ! Congratulation WOS Mustangs very well done. That's what hard work and dedication gets ya.
  18. I truly wish I had never said anything about the Black / African American wishes in WOS. I'm just confused as to what this race of people want to be called. Guess I've been watching to much tv because it seems most Southeast Texas Blacks are perfectly comfortable with being called Black. I also should not have said that I know what the fans at WOS want. Because I don't , I just have an opinion. Sorry DJ Love ya Bro and hope I didn't cause any unwarranted harassment toward you. Love your enthusiasm for your team.
  19. If you take a team to state 4 years in a row and still have people thinking you cando better, then those people don't deserve you. You wait and see. When Coach Thompson is gone and the Hooks/ Thompson way of doing things gets changed the program will never be the same. I understand the team is mostly African American and you want an African American coach. I fully understand that. I just hope whoever you get fully understands the tradition and works the kids as hard as his previous coaches have.
  20. WOS fans are so spoiled by success that when the cycle finally takes a dip some of them think Coach Thompson forgot how to coach while others take it really personal. However, most Stang fans are educated and dedicated fans who under stand that it can't go on forever. You are going to have years every.now and then when your program is younger and maybe even less talented. The coaches can work 24 hours a day but it takes longer for these types of teams to develop. And some will never develop into the type of team you've been accustomed to. WOS has the highest winning percentage in the whole state. It's easy to get fat and happy when your program is that great. It's not going to last forever. I will always put my money on this program turning everything around very soon. In 1993 Newton was ranked number 1 in the state in preseason. We won 3 games. In 94 we went two rounds deep in the playoffs. I really don't think it's time to panic. I really wonder how much good is done by calling out a young man by his name or number. There are other ways to get your point across without embarrassing A young man who more than likely is doing the best he can.
  21. WOS is in my opinion is one of the top 3-5 programs in the state of Texas. Coach Thompson is as good as any coach in the US. He knows what his OC is doing. When his OC is not doing his job, he will change or find another one. If a fan thinks he knows more than this coaching staff, he should definitely become a coach because he will be great.
  22. Curtis Barbay once told me there was more talent walking the halls of Lincoln High School than anywhere in east Texas. "Genetics"
