  1. I truly understand trying to protect the kids....I really do. But I am like one of the previous posters....why cancel UIL activities? What makes those activities more dangerous than sitting in a classroom or going to Wally World? You cannot stop the spread. I'd be willing to bet that there are thousands of kids in the malls, at the lakes, standing on the street corner, whatever in those towns where school was cancelled. I also understand that traveling from one place to the next would spread the disease...but finish the district and THEN see how things are. What's done is done, though, and it doesn't make any difference if I think it's ridiculous or not.
  2. Whereas I empathize with you for your location and the situation that faces you there, my "perspective" is that I question some of the logic that our so-called leaders seem to have. Re: my last post regarding closing the borders...how does THAT not make sense to you? I don't think that athletic events are more important that citizens' health, but come on.....you can get just as affected (if not more) by going to Wal-Mart, and they don't seem to have closed the stores. I realize they have to start somewhere, but unless you just shut everybody up in their own homes with no communication to anyone else, you are NOT going to stop the virus from spreading. (And then they give us a date that it's all going to be over with....May 11!) Mark your calendars sports fans. The virus will be wiped out by May 11.
  3. someone ask obama the same question at his press conference just a minute ago. response> it's too late the virus is already here. But is there no logic in that we can prevent further infection by the masses? I fail to see the common sense these days in some of our so-called leaders.
  4. The following info was excerpted from the Beaumont Enterprise online....Senators questioned Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano about her decision not to close the border, action she said "has not been merited by the facts." We can close schools, cancel athletic events, quarrantine people, but God forbid we should close the darned border!!!!! Everyone is saying the disease originated in Mexico yet we can't close the borders to keep them from bringing it into our country anymore than it already is. What's wrong with this picture?
  5. I agree with repayne....is the darn thing going to be cured by May 11? How do you put a date on it? How ridiculous UIL looks at this point!!!!! And why not cancel school entirely, instead of just games, meets, etc.? I know they've cancelled some schools in SA, but good gracious, what's going to happen when it spreads to the other schools by May 11 and SA schools are all cured? Just clearly inappropriate in my opinion.
  6. They've made it a pandemic. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Why don't they let the schools that can play go ahead and play and then they can go from there. If they then have to wait on the SA schools, then so be it. If they are going to cancel everything until then, just cancel school until then, or as somebody said, cancel work, cancel grocery store visits.....gimme a break. I just think it's far-fetched and a little too quick on the draw.
  7. Thanks for the recaps.....I may just get that DVD when it comes out.........LOL.
  8. WOS IS undersized as a whole. LB's weighed 170, maybe 180 tops. Kevin Robinson, who won the Willie Ray Smith award was only 155. Kids may be small, but they are tough, thanks to the off-season.
  9. We moved and I don't have local channels yet. Did Smash make it at the college he went to? Did Tyra and the cowboy break up? Fill me in a little more than Coach Taylor was sent to another school. Was he fired or was it a new school in the same district? Weird.........
  10. I think there will be some sort of merger before WOS goes to 2A. Just my opinion.
  11. Mother Nature intervened the last couple of scheduled meetings, thankful I'm sure, on both sides on opposite years. That being said, I think it was a good test for both sides. Always seemed like a close game.
  12. You sound just like a basketball coach, Dick....it's just sickening that you have to try to bribe kids to go straight basketball! AggiesAreWe: I believe I agree with you for the first time!!! LOL
  13. So did I. I was under the impression that BC had moved above WOS in enrollment. Maybe that was before the hurricane, but I know a lot of kids didn't return to WOS either. I dunno.
  14. "The UIL staff presented the concept to the Legislative Council in June and October. The Council authorized this study to provide information regarding the actual placement of schools into districts. This draft is for study purposes only and applies only to football. "
  15. WOS has lost FIVE coaching positions that HAVE NOT been replaced. The most recent was from last year. A coach left and no replacement was moved up to the varsity staff, so the information that the board member who spoke last night about "alternative solutions such as giving up a coach" is erroneous and there was no opportunity to rebut the statement. That is another problem with the "system". The school board can sit there and discuss things OUT LOUD.....whatever comes to the top of their head at the moment, whether it is accurate or not accurate, and not a thing can be said to them. It's almost like being in a trial when the judge says, "Jury, you will disregard the last statement made by the key witness". It's a little too late not to have heard it! Same thing with last night. The board member just threw something out there without even checking out the facts and then had the audacity to be "embarassed" by the way the vote was handled to start with back in November. The board member even SAID that not enough information and input was gathered before they voted and THEN that same board member went and made comments that were unfounded and unresearched. Don't speak if you don't know what you are talking about. Don't vote unless you know all the facts and know what you are voting for or against. Do your homework!!!!! That's why you're there!!!!!
  16. How have you already seen all the shows for this season, or am I reading your post wrong? LOL
  17. ESPN reported this AM that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor about a year ago.
  18. One school board member stated that he played for Willie Ray Smith and he had to walk home so he voted against it. Is he just blind or what? Things are DIFFERENT now. There are drugs everywhere, people not from the area everywhere, and kids walking home are in danger. In addition, and I count this as extremely important....girls weren't allowed to play sports and/or walk home in the dark when the fellow played for Willie Ray Smith. Are you going to let your 7th grade daughter walk home two miles at eleven o'clock at night after playing basketball at Hamshire Fannett? How about your 17 year old daughter..... No thought whatsoever to things going on in this community in this day and age. They are completely out of touch with what the people want and need.
  19. Perhaps some of us were "reading the sarcasm" in the posts that you and Aggies made. Why do you care is all we are asking? Honestly, you prefer basketball and that's ok with me. Why does it bother you and Aggies that those who continue to post on this thread all like football? I can go back up and get his quotes if you like.......Perhaps those who are attending the basketball games don't have time or wherewithall to post the scores. P.S. KOGT has scores on its' website....you can get the scores there. GO WOS!!!
  20. Maybe he was depressed about losing the state championship game.
  21. Then go to the basketball forum to find out, but don't cut those of us down who like the football forum. Why do either of you care where we post or if we do or do not post on other forums? It is a ridiculous observation/ridicule/whatever you choose to call it......
  22. I think Christian Michaels is a great athlete and congrats go out to him. I think Kevin Robinson is exceptional because he proves that it's not the size of the body, it's the size of the heart that gets the job done.
  23. Wow!!!! It appears that Mustang fans hit nerves without even meaning to! For the life of me, I can't understand why it would upset someone from another school (and ESPECIALLY a moderator) which forum we post on or what we choose to or NOT to talk about (football or basketball). Football is the bread and butter of WOS, whether others like it or not and whether others (outsiders) understand that or not. To ridicule us for not posting on other forums is uncalled for and not in the guidelines, I'm sure, for an administrator to judge.
  24. From the first post and the discrepancies of the two amounts given, perhaps the board needs to look at the Laidlaw situation. Why is a bus being reported as running, but is not? Maybe the board could save some money by auditing Laidlaw's charges..... It's just a thought....
