  5. Good for you. I knew you would do the right thing. And I had given it a rest until the comments about the better kids being the kids with dads that work with them. I've seen too many kids that could be all world but for the lack of someone at home working with them. Like I said, don't punish the kid because of who his parents are. Do me a favor. Make a copy of this thread. And when your kid is 12, reread this thread. I'll give you $20 if you don't laugh. ;D
  6. Of course the better players are going to be the ones that dad works with at home. BUT! What about the kid that doesn't have a dad? Dad could be in Iraq, parents divorced, etc. etc. So he gets stuck out in the outfield because his dad isn't around? How is he suppose to improve? And what kind of role model are you for this kid? "Sorry, kid, I know you don't have a dad to work with you at home, kind of sucks to be you but get out into right field". Don't punish the kid because of the parents!
  7. Ask the kid that got to only play one quarter in Little Dribblers if he cares who won or lost. Ask your kid if he had the following option, which one would he prefer: 1) Win but only get to play 1 inning 2) Play the whole game as pitcher and/or shortstop Most kids choose the option to play as opposed to winning. Everybody wants to win but in the end, they care more about the experience than the won/loss record, ESPECIALLY when they are 7 & 8. There's plenty of time for them to learn about winning and losing. I've coached somewhere around 30 teams in baseball, softball, and basketball. Kids want to play, have fun, be with their friends, develop skills, hit the ball/score a basket. Winning is not real high on their list of things they want to accomplish. Now when they get to high school, I'm with you. It's all about winning.
  8. There's just so many things wrong with your post. I PROMISE YOU, NO ONE (except maybe you) will remember whether you won or lost at 7 & 8 years old. If you're not using equal playing time and switching kids to different positions each inning, you are doing these kids a HUGE disservice. My opinion is formed from 10 years experience. Your #1 goal is to teach the kids the game of baseball WHILE having fun. Winning/losing should be waaaaaay down your list.

  11. Tyler County won 8 to 7 in seven innings. Lumberton put 2 up in the top of the 6th to tie the game and held Tyler County scoreless in the bottom. In the top of the 7th, Lumberton scored one run. In the bottom of the 7th, Lumberton had some pitching problems and walked in the tie-ing run and then the next batter hit a single between first & second to score the winning run. Excellent game played by both teams. Tyler County and Lumberton play tonight in Woodville at 7:30 for the District 12 Championship. Both teams will be throwing their #1 pitchers.
  12. Pat Knight and Roccaforte are good friends. Tech won't buy out of that game. I know Roccaforte is disappointed Bob Knight retired before the return trip but Pat will do everything he can to help out his pal.
  13. Just keep Corbin healthy! ;D
  14. Don't know how Taylor is doing but I hear McCarter has a new hog ;D
