  1. I'm hoping this will be a close game. It will make me feel better if we win Friday night, anyways.
  2. Good luck to both teams! Hope for a clean, injury free game!
  3. Am I wrong for thinking this could be a good game? I'm picking WOS by 2 scores.
  4. I can see where you're going with this, but the fact is it wasn't at the same instant. It was pre-meditated. He literally slows down, then speeds back up just to lay him out. Then, he looks around to see if anyone saw him.
  5. Don't understand these rankings though. I'm surprised that Gladewater is ranked so low.
  6. Well it really goes hand in hand with getting the running game going. Carthage was able to leave 2 deep safeties because Gilmer as having no real success running the ball. Their corners where playing good press cover, and the screens weren't getting by them too often, so no real reason to bring the 2 safeties down. Once Gilmer's offense got rolling, they couldn't stop them, but too many times Gilmer just fell on their face on the first set of downs. The more I think about it, the more I think they will beat Nac though. I just don't know if Nac can stop the, though they do have that db that swapped commits from TCU to Texas the other day. He will be interesting to watch I'm sure. Not exactly sure how Nac seems to get all these D1 recruits at DB so often haha.
  7. I have had this argument with several Gilmer fans, but I just haven't seen the stretch the field in any game. I've seen them twice and both times they did not hardly ever attempt the deep ball. That's why I had made a statement before that half or more of Brown's passing yards in the L-E game came from YAC.
  8. Yea, which at 49-17 I believe they pulled Ingram. I know they pulled him early in the 4th regardless, but he went in for another drive after Gilmer's 20 point run and scored that final TD for Carthage. That boy was impressive, especially for a JR.
  9. I will say that. They didn't give up. Not sure how they translate that mentality to those boys so well, but they get it done. I know for a fact there where a few Carthage fans that said "Oh here we go," whenever Gilmer started scoring on that 20 point run haha.
  10. Haha you're right about that. It really began it's change when I was in school. We started out in your ole classic I-formation hard-nosed football. Before I made it out of high school, we where making the change to full spread. It really fits our school better anyways, generally because Atlanta usually has tons of speed, and not a lot of size.
  11. Yep. If there is anything Gilmer is notorious for, it's onsides and screens. That's why we have gotten pretty good at defending it. Night and day difference between our defense now, and our defense 3 years ago. After falling to Gilmer in qtr finals 2 years in a row, you pick up on those things. Just little things like when the line recognizes it, they all jump and fan their hands through the air. Saw it against L-E, 3 lineman and a linebacker came through the line, recognized it as a screen, and all jumped and threw their hands in the air.
  12. I've watched some highlights of WOS, and there is quite a difference really. WOS and Atlanta run the same style of offense. Spread with lots of misdirection and motion. Gilmer likes to put 1 back in the backfield at most, and spread the field. They will use a little motion, but not near what WOS runs. They like to get their playmakers in space. Gilmer is notorious for screen passes, which I don't blame them. When you have D1 talent at wideout most of the time, I'd put the ball in my playmakers hands with blockers out front as well.
  13. Yea Carthage had a track star playing at safety that matched up real well with Morton. Carthage has a young team as well. It will be interesting to see what they can do next year as well!
  14. I'm just saying from what I saw against L-E. Lots of short throws with tons of open space. L-E secondary seemed to play 5 yards off of the receivers almost every play.
  15. This wasn't really an upset. Carthage is a powerhouse, with arguably the best coach in Texas high school football today. I don't even think you will hear a Gilmer fan say that this was an upset. That being said, I was questioning Poppy before this game started. I watched the first game this season, which I'm sure you all heard, he broke the Gilmer passing record in a game and what not. The reason I questioned that, is because I had seen L-E twice (now 3 times) this season, and their secondary is just not what is has been in past years. I also have been trying to find the statistic, but I don't think it's out there, on the YAC during the Gilmer/L-E game. Watching the game, I am figuring over half of the passing yards was due to YAC. He doesn't take many deep shots, it's mainly just the usual Gilmer screens and short throws.
  16. I have 2 problems with this statement. 1. Who do you think teaches them discipline on the field? 2. Do you really think coaching has nothing to do with how the team plays? Coaching is more important even than the talent is.
