Kingwood has no trouble putting away Lee By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published February 2, 2008 - Updated 34 minutes ago Under next year’s district alignment, Lee will no longer face Kingwood. It couldn’t come soon enough for Lee head coach Criss Dippel. In the District 21-5A soccer opener Friday night, the Ganders took it on the chin against the Mustangs in a 7-0 whitewashing. Entering the game, Dippel noted that it would be the last time Kingwood would play at Sultis Stadium in a district contest, at least for the next two years. That is apparently a good thing. “Thank the Lord for the new alignment,†Dippel said. The loss was identical to last year’s district opener. In this year’s loss, a shorthanded Ganders team fell behind 3-0 in the first half and gave up four goals in the second half as Kingwood improved to 10-1-1 overall and 1-0 in District 21-5A. Lee played without three starters that were forced to sit out because of red cards in the La Porte game. Of those three, Aaron Rodriguez and Octavio Torres are expected back against Sterling on Tuesday night while forward Benito Huerta will miss further action. “Huerta will be suspended for two to three games for violation of team rules,†Dippel said. “We need to come together as a team and get on the same page.†With two starting defenders out of the lineup, Lee started out in a 5-3-2 but was unable to force the action past midfield. Trailing 1-0, the Ganders went to their standard 4-4-3 alignment and quickly gave up another goal. Lee settled down but gave up another goal with two minutes remaining in the half. “We had to change and go back to doing what we do best,†Dippel said. “The problem was we stood around and watched Kingwood play. We can play better than that. We were just too timid.†Among those standing out in the first half for Lee were Patrick Christian, Manuel Flores and Adrian Ollivierre. No one looked particularly good in the second half as Kingwood put the game away with three goals in the first 15 minutes. Lee (3-3, 0-1) will return to action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when it takes on Sterling at Stallworth Stadium. Sterling girls 9, Humble 0 The Lady Rangers scored early and often, posting seven goals in the first half to cruise in a 9-0 win over Humble in the District 21-5A opener for both teams. Shannon Allport posted a hat trick with three goals to pace Sterling as it improved to 5-3-1 overall and 1-0 in district. Erin Yzquierdo scored two goals for Sterling while Rachel Mescall, Paolo Bear, Megan Purswell and Iris Martinez each scored one. The defense also had an outstanding game, limiting Humble to five shots on goal, none of which seriously challenged keeper Shelby May. Sterling will take on Lee at Stallworth Stadium, Tuesday at 7 p.m. Sterling boys 1, Humble 1 HUMBLE — Sterling’s Rangers dominated Friday night’s District 21-5A soccer opener at Humble everywhere but the scoreboard and came home with a tie. The league has quit using shootouts to decide ties. Too bad they don’t use stats, because the Rangers outshot the Wildcats 15-4 by coach Jim Richter’s count. “If we finished a little better, it would have been 8-1,†he said. “We have a hard time scoring goals. But I’m not going to panic yet. We’re actually creating a lot of opportunities.†Michael Pittman took a pass from Geovane Preciado and scored his sixth goal of the season to snap a scoreless tie 20 minutes into the second half. The Wildcats knotted the game with a goal with four minutes remaining. “We probably possessed the ball for 70 (of the game’s 80) minutes,†Richter said. “We stayed down in front of their goal, but they got a breakaway and scored.†The Rangers face off with their crosstown rival Lee Tuesday night at Stallworth. Kingwood girls 17, Lee 0 The Kingwood girls were who Lee thought they were as they rolled to a 17-0 win at home.

2008 Pre District schedule / or known opponents thus far?
KFDM COOP replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
With seven district opponents firmly in place, the Mid-County schools only had to secure three non-league outings. Nederland is leaning in the direction of beginning on zero week with West Orange-Stark, and playing Waller and Friendswood in weeks two and three after a bye in week one. Port Neches-Groves is planning week zero with Barbers Hill followed by Crosby and Texas City in weeks one and two. -

Lady Cats win District 21-3A title Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader ORANGEFIELD — For the first time since 1992 the Orangefield Lady Bobcats will sit alone atop the district standings when the final game is over Tuesday. The No. 11 Lady Bobcats wrapped up the District 21-3A title Friday with a 96-16 victory over the West Orange-Stark Mustangs on Senior Night in Orangefield. The Lady Bobcats are now 22-9 overall and a perfect 13-0 in the district standings. The Lady Mustangs fell to 0-18 on the year and 0-13 in district. Orangefield senior Kaylin “Kay-K†Little celebrated the night in style with a career high 41 points while fellow senior Laura Riddick fough off early foul trouble to lead all players with 13 rebounds to go with a block and three steals. “Not only are those two great all-around players, they are the key to the defensive system I brought in here,†Orangefield Coach Chris Jost said. “We call it a full-court diamond and Laura was made to play the middle of it. Her speed is huge. Those two average 10 steals a game between them in district. In our big ballgames this year, it has been their poise and experience that has been the key for us.†With her fourth point of the night, Little scored her 2,100th career point in Orangefield. Junior Olivia Wagner put in 21 points, six steals and six rebounds in the win while fellow-junior Allie Beach aded 16 points and nine boards. Junior Jessica Weldon finished with six points, six rebounds and five steals while sophomore Aimee Scales put in seven points to go with five rebounds. Demetrius Heard led the Lady Mustangs with six points while Ryshaniqua Winbush had a team-high 10 rebounds. The Lady Bobcats came out on fire from the get-go as Little scored eight in the first period as Orangefield built a 21-2 lead heading into the second. WO-S, who commited 34 turnovers, made its first field goal of the game with 6:30 left in the second. The Lady Bobcats would outscore the Lady Mustangs 29-3 in the second to lead 50-5 at the break. Little scored 14 points in the second while Wagner and Beach each had six. Wagner then had nine points in the third, including a four-point play after getting fouled on a three-pointer, and Little added 10 in the frame as Orangefield led 75-12 heading to the fourth. Jost and the Lady Bobcats had the chance to attempt to hit the 100 mark yet pulled off in a show of sportsmanship. Now the Lady Bobcats will finish the district season with a road trip to Sour Lake Tuesday to face the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks. “Winning the district title is a good feeling,†Jost said. “We felt like if we came together we would have a shot at contending for it. Now we would like to go undefeated. H-J is back to playing at a high level and it is going to be a playoff atmosphere. We are treating it like a playoff game because there are going to be some things exposed about our game that have not been exposed in a few weeks. “We are certainly going to try to win the game. The pressure is off of us heading into the game. It would be a different game if the winner was district champions. That is off and we just want to continue to play well.†WO-S will finish their season Tuesday when they play host to the Bridge City Lady Cardinals.
