  10. Bellow, Bulldogs rout Tors By Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News NEDERLAND — Sophomore Kirby Bellow did the pitching and senior second baseman Jude Vidrine did the hitting in the Bulldogs 6-3 victory over Sulphur on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Nederland improves to 4-3 on the season and wrapped up the Bulldog Classic with a 2-2 mark. Bridge City, Sulphur and Nederland each finished the tournament 2-2. BC clobbered the Tornadoes 6-0 in Saturday's morning game. The Cardinals' Jaden Dillon tossed a complete game, no-hit shutout while allowing just three base runners and striking out nine batters. Bellow continued where Dillon left off, keeping Sulphur hitless through the first 2.1 innings. He only allowed four hits in 5.2 innings of work, striking out seven batters, walking four and only surrendering one run in the win. Offensively, Nederland scored the games first three runs (only one was earned) before Sulphur cut the game to 3-1 in the top half of the fifth. But for the second day in a row, Vidrine went deep. The lefty's homer stretched the game to 4-1. Then in the sixth, Vidrine singled in Adam Broussard to make the score 6-1. Earlier in the inning, Reagan Stanley reached on an error (Sulphur had six errors for the game) and moved to third after Broussard singled. Then a sacrifice fly from Ryan Sampere brought in Stanley, making the score 5-1. The Dogs finished the game with six hits and scored four earned runs. All four runs were credited to Ryan Cooper, who took the loss for the Tors. Cooper threw 6.1 innings, allowed five hits, struck out nine batters and walked three. Sulphur led the game with eight hits but left seven on base. The Tornadoes scored two runs in the final inning off Justin Richard. But Richard closed the game out by getting Josh East to groundout to third. For the weekend, Nederland head coach Cody Robins said there is always plenty for coaches to critique. "We had too many errors, we have to eliminate the strikeouts and now allow the two-out walks," Robins said. "I'm glad we finished on a positive note. It's always good to get a win and there were several positives to take from these games. "Everything is heading the right direction and that's where you want to be at this time of the year." Nederland is scheduled to play four games at Deer Park, starting Thursday and going through Saturday. The Bulldogs start District 22-4A play March 11 at home against Vidor.
