  2. "Now that UIL officials have had time to think..." That's one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.
  3. [Hidden Content] Dayton, Check out this web site that has a lot of discussion on this matter.
  4. There are approximately eight districts in a region, the top three finishers from each district qualify for regions, and four regions in Texas, then 96 partipants in each event would qualify for the state track meet. You would need more than "semi-finals" to narrow down the top eight for the finals.
  5. This is very bad news for track athletes to compare times from different meets with different timing methods and track conditions. Some runners, especially in the longer distances, may not have run their best times if they easily won their district meet. How can you compare a 3200 meter race with first place winning by 100 yards compared to a race with a close finish. The UIL is doing a great disservice to hard working and dedicated track athletes. If this was football, they would be playing 3 or 4 games a week to get in all of the games.
  6. There was an interesting article/photos in the Houston Chronicle about the 12 starting QB's from Texas playing in various bowl games. So far they've all won. But that will change when Texas Tech and Ole Miss play since both starting QB's are from Texas. Utah and Texas still to play. [Hidden Content]
  7. Bullets13, you should stick to posting pictures and forget about adding captions.
  8. Hmmm! You had a kid from HJ back in the early 90's (?) and I think his last year LU made it to the NCAA and played Duke (?). Attendance didnot rise because he played at LU. But back to Donahoe. He's a good example of a player who is/was good but not for a major D-1 school, which was probably one of the problems in his case. Everybody is not a major D-1 just because you are a star at your local high school. There is nothing wrong with the LU's, SFA's, etc. to play ball and get a degree. You are talking about Kenyan Spears and he was not the star but that was the year Lamar had the most local talent playing for them... They had Thadeous Holden and Louis Arline both of silsbee playing... The season wasnt like this one... Lamar got hot at to start the season, went cold and finished seventh to in the Southland then won it all... They were led by 6'8" Landon Rowe SF... Both Holden and Spears started and the area was there at every game... They had some of there best years of attendance during that time... The program was virtually new to the Southland... They had just left the SunBelt in '98... You solidify the arguement more that they need local talent there for fan base and the fact is that they compete well too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only Southland Tourney Championship included three home town kids... And go back to BB Davis and Gulley and you got the last time they were ultra competitive and a sweet sixteen birth.... With LOCAL TALENT Lamar was at their best! Here's a trivia question: Where is Kenyan Spears now?
  9. I hope UTA wins tomorrow. Bracketology has them a 16 seed playing UCLA. If that is what happens, UTA will give UCLA a good game. UCLA has been winning with a lot of luck the past few games. Maybe its time for a #16 to take down a #1 and the SLC needs to do it.
  10. Totally agree coachcola. What is the purpose of the regular season? At least the two division winners should get a first round bye.
  11. I agree Coop. They played well in the second half, but couldn't overcome the large deficit. With a young team and Coach Tidwell's leadership, good things are ahead for the Lady Cards!
  12. Nabors, Tristan, and Brown will be seniors and capable as Sanders. Custer will be dangerous off the bench. Our starting team could be Dawkins, Nabors, Moton, Hall, and Tristan... Remember Ybarra and Harper will be freshmen. Off the bench, Mcthay, Suga Shane, Brown, Custer... What about Matt Barrow? Are his playing days over?
  13. If Lamar loses to SFA in the championship game, it seems they would get the NIT invitation. However, if they lose to SH in the semifinals, Sam will probably get at least the NIT and Lamar's season will be over. I doubt they would be invited to the 16 team tournament.
  14. SFA may be pretty good, but gee are they boring :P
  15. Lamar needs a run to start the second half and put the Lions away like they did in Beaumont. SFA 49 - 42 with about 4 minutes left.
  16. 28 - 27 SE La Sanders has 3 fouls Attendance 200. That's amazing.
  17. When Ozen goes to the state basketball tournament, BISD has enough money for all the BOARD MEMBERS to spend a week in Austin.
  18. Since ole Tom left, I think he has applied for the Lamar job each time there was a vacancy. Apparently the quality of Italian food in Beaumont has improved.
  19. I'm certain most folks will disagree with me and I understand its really cool to play these district playoff games at one location in the Montagne Center, but starting a high school game at 9:40 p.m. on a Friday night after these students were at school all day seems a little excessive to me. I wonder if the administrators at HJ and Silsbee were happy about this.
  20. One of the local TV stations ran a story about a biting incident between 4 year olds at a Beaumont day care center. I guess its been a really slow news week.
