1. Yes, Paul Walker's contract was not extending for the second year and he left.
2.
No contract renewal for HF's Mangan [Hidden Content]
AAW, you always pride yourself on being accurate.  There is a big difference between not extending a contract and non renewal of a contract.  The HF board did not extend Mangan contract for a second year.  Now he is working with a one year contract instead of a two year contract. He has a job at HF for another year if he chooses to stay.  A nonrenewal is the same thing as being fired, which apparently is not what happened.
3. One other question for Bucof2010. What happens to you in 2011  ??? ??? ;) ;)
4.

I realize that we are way off topic, but if I interpret what the Bucs' are saying students are leaving HF to attend EC or Sabine Pass, not for the chance to win a state championship or to get an athletic scholarship, but for the opportunity to win a few more football or basketball games.  It seems extremely sad that parents and their children are willing to leave life-long friends for the fleeting glory of a few high school sports wins.  I would think that if a student was trying to better his or her self, they would take a step up to West Brook, Port Neches, Nederland or Ozen not a step down to a 2A or 1A school.
EC is a step up from hf
In what way?
5.
Now that I've filtered through all of the arguing and I'm not really sure if any point was ever made. Does anyone have any news of tonight?
Rizon, The only thing the board could do tonight is to not extend Mangan's AD contract for an additional year.  The superintendent can reassign his coaching duties.  It will be up to Mangan if he wants to stay around another year.

7. Where do you get your numbers?  Can you give totals of scholarships awarded to EC and HF graduates over the past three years?  Or do you just make up things to justify your argument?  The last HF graduation I attended, it seemed like every student got some kind of scholarship.
8.
EC and HJ are benefiting from the crash, that is clear. Both athletes and non-athletes are transfering. The districts are benefiting from the increased enrollment. I would never say that students were transfering for sports, that would be unbelievable wouldnt it. Look at the transfers and attempted transfers over the last 4 and 5 years and you tell me.
ECbuc4real, What have all of these transferred students gained from leaving HF?  How many state championships have they won? How many college athletic scholarships have they earned?
9. Maybe the Boy's Soccer coach should be the new AD at HF.  First year to compete at varsity level, primarily against 4A schools, and an excellent chance to make the playoffs.
10. Lamar needs this road win with a couple of tough home game remaining against SH and CC.
11. If I'm not mistaken, Jamaal Charles is the only underclassman to win the award and the only two time winner. Christine Michael was nominated his junior year, did not win, but won his senior year.  So it seems that the voters do give more preference to seniors.
12. Where is it going to be held?  What time?  Who is the guest speaker? Haven't seen much publicity this year.
13. You are right, badndn, Justin Nabors is a joy to watch.  His enthusiasm and hustle make watching him play worth the price of admission.
14.
Genetics,,sure thats anywhere. The H. F. lit. Dribblers program ha been good for years..Problem? Kids have to keep working and progressing. Not sure how the H.S. program is set up..Ex. Bsketball kids with their coach when they should be, or all-sports and kids together in off-season? hard to get any better in any other place except the gym..3a Universal off-season is my bet. tough to win.
Hamshire Fannett High School has produced teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, accountants and all other professions.  The most recent Texas Education Agency ratings (2008-09) are as follows: Hamshire-Fannett - Exemplary Bridge City - Recognized Hardin Jefferson - Recognized Orangefield - Recognized Silsbee - Academically Accepted WOS - Academically Unaccepted They must be doing something right.
15.
School board elections will be in May. So if you are realy wonting a change, when that person comes and knocks on your door, and asks for your vote, man up and ask them right there face to face. What is you stance with the program. Dont hide behind this sreen and wait for someone to do the dirty work.  If you wont to change anything it will only start at the top and work down
If I'm not mistaken, the HF school board elections are in November not May.
16. This is an interesting discussion and I can understand both sides of the argument.  It seems the object of the game changed from "let's win this game" to "let's keep Yates from scoring 100 points".  That seems to be the Westbury coach's goal.  He must've felt his team could not win, so the next best thing was to keep Yates from scoring 100 points and end their streak.  Yates accepted the challenge and was determined to do whatever it took to "beat" Westbury by scoring 100 points.  So in the end, Westbury was successful. So is it "classless" for Yates to try to score 100 points or "classless" for Westbury to stop them?

Blue, you're reaching and very clueless.
Good edit.  I know there is an Aggie joke in there somewhere.
18. Besides, a 32 point HJ win is only outscoring the Longhorns by 1 point per minute, but 1.03125 points per minute is getting carried away.
19. All the area coaches nominate an offensive and a defensive player from their school.  Next a committee of newspaper, TV, and radio sport reporters vote on the top 4 O & D players from the coaches' nominees.  Finally, the sports guys vote on the Willie Ray Smith O & D winner from the top four and the winners are announced at a banquet, usually in Feb.,  sponsored by the Beaumont Lions Club.
20. That isn't going to happen. I don't see splitting the two Beaumont schools, it wouldn't make sense. That make no sense at all. BISD would certainly appeal a realignment the split Central and Ozen into different districts. That would mean two different district committees and much more travel.
21. I'm not sure why the EC coach would be responsible to call the Jasper coaches. But since you are the SETXsports Broadcaster, you can put on your journalism hat, call Coach Mangan, and let us all know the answer to that.
22. The visitor stands were damaged during Hurricane Ike when the visitor press box fell into the stands. An engineer told the school that they could not be repaired. HF was in the process of building a girl's softball field and that contractor agreed to rebuild the visitors stand. However, the subcontractor who was hired to rebuild the stands skipped town with the funds. So the contractor had to purchase the materials and hire a new subcontractor. All these problems delayed the construction. The folks in HF are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ike.
23. Nice article, coachacola. Thanks for posting it. I look forward to watching the young man play for the Cards.
