1. Dav J, talking about Silsbee, you are treading on thin ice.  You will unlease the wrath of Aggies are We.  ;D :D ;D :D
 2. So teachers retirement is based on the average of the 3 or 5 highest years. Thanks GCMPats and Knows2much, for the TRS info.
 3.
FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DON PRICE PLEASE JUST READ THIS [Hidden Content]
Good article HORNS R #1.  It raises some interesting questions.  Coach Price's salary at BH was $98,800.  It would be surprising if HF is close to that.  Does anyone know his contract?  If he takes a cut in pay how does that affect his Teacher Retirement? BH bought out the remaining 18 months of Coach Price's contract for $153,000.  Is HF going to buy-out the remaining 18 months of Walt Mangan's contract?  Or are they hoping he resigns and moves on? Coach Price's wife is a curriculum director at BH and has a law practice in Mont Belvieu!!! When does she have time to sleep???  Will Coach Price move to Hamshire or commute from Mont Belvieu?
 4. Rizon, you are correct kids do too much, but I don't think its going to stop anytime soon.
 5.
Had an HF coach tell me yesterday that he had recently received several notes from Jr. high parents telling him that they didn't want their kid lifting weights because "they felt" like it would adversely effect them in baseball and basketball. Keep in mind that the Jr. high just started a new weight program about a month ago. This is HF's problem. Any positive step in the right direction is met with adversity. As long as these parents know more than the coaches this program doesn't have a prayer.
im on fire, this whole thing about weight lifting got started when Glad19 wrote the above without explaining why some of these parents (at least the basketball parents) made this request.  These kids are going to the National Little Dribblers tournament in a couple of weeks and the parents did not want them lifting weights in an off-season football workout.  Glad19 seems to be accusing these parents of being meddlesome. Instead of requesting that the kids be removed from weighlifting altogether, the parents should've asked the coaches that the basketball players be allowed to participate in an in-season basketball workout until their basketball season is over. It would be great to see Butler win, but I can't help but pull for Coach K and Duke to win another national championship.

 7.
if players arent working out then how come each few years the size of 11-13 year old kids are more built and lean.  players of all sports are working out year around in season and out of season, hince YEAR AROUND.  once you get into middle school working out is cool nowadays.  i can tell you this, duke is doing moderate weight training.  youve got to be crazy if you think they arent lifting weights.
Whatever "moderate weight training" that Duke basketball players did this week is vastly different than the Duke off-season football team's workouts.   Since non-school youth sports are not going to disappear anytime soon, it seems in order to build successful high school programs, coaches should imbrace these activities by encouraging students to participate, holding coaching clinics for youth coaches, and discussing with parents training and workout programs, rather than (as some seem to indicate) allowing anomosity to develope between school coaches and parent/youth coaches.
Well, since the HF Sr Little Dribblers just won the regional tournament and are advancing to the national tournament in a couple of weeks, I can't blame the parents not wanting their basketball kids lifting weights until after tournament.  I doubt Duke is lifting much weight this week.
 9.
Would anyone have a problem with promoting within?
No, as long as its one of those beer swilling, cigarette puffing moms.
 10.
One guy mentions the old coach from PN-G will work em hard and get em in shape. Then here we go with we dont want him or he isnt right for us. LOL.  The parents would like to keep the good ole boy system going out there. I work with a guy from HF and he has no faith in this process what so ever and he says the parents out there doesn't want anyone who will take over and shut em out.
So I guess that rules out Coach Rob Powell "The World's Toughest Man"
 11. WJBooger, I think Dav-J is being satirical.  We hold your "poster" friend to the upmost esteem.
 12. I'm impressed with the geographic variety of applicants - Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, New Hampshire, New Jersey, California, two from Alaska!!! and one guy from WorldFitnessChampions.Net.  This internet is a wondrous thing. Now if HF can start recruiting athletes from all of these states ..... ;D :D ;D :D
 13.
District 38 caught District 37 during Spring Break, which was critical to their success.  Liberty and Livingston were both missing several starters, which changed the whole outlook of the games.  District 38 might be better, but it was more timing than talent.
If "several starters"  ::) can't show up for a once in a lifetime playoff game, those teams don't deserve to advance to the next round.
 14. Certainly Tom Abatemarco will be interested in the job ;D
 15. Lancaster was down 30 to 41 through 3 quarters, but outscored Lake Travis 24 - 13 in the 4th quarter to send the game to overtime.
 16. Lamar needs to renew that Mississippi connection.
 17.

Can we assume that HF and OF can be favorably compared based on enrollment?  If so then the issue of AD and who and what is a good fit can be brought up and we can look at OF, they replaced their AD last year with not much improvement in football.  Last year there was a thread that stated that it was the kids at OF and their preference to play basketball was more to blame for the team having trouble making playoffs.  Watching SETX sports for more than a decade I can attest to one thing OF will always compete for a playoff spot in every sport.  The new AD at OF will make two playoffs in the next five years. HF can only compete in vball and baseball year in and year out.  The reason is * Athletes are above average in ALL of the following categories: Height, wing span, quickness, speed, overall coordination and body control.  In the last five years HF has completely lost all there athletes, they are gone the have a hand full at best.  Now new coach will fix that. OF and HF are the only two schools in that district that have never been larger than 3A.  However, OF has more athletes and better facillities as well as better pay.  The OF parents may not always agree with coaches but they keep their thoughts to themselves better than HF, the HF parents feel that this site was designed for them to explain to the rest of the SETX community that with better coaching they would win.  HF wants to let you know how well they do in defending their state title in academic UIL.  What we should do is set up a forum for the smart kids parents from HF to get on her and thump their chest.  All I can say is HF is not two or ten years from competing in all sports they should move the junior high coaches up and then and only then will they win.
:D
Can BlueDove, or horndawg, or even bucof2010 interpret this ??? ??? ???
 18. Unless one of the incoming freshmen is the next Kevin Durant or John Wall,  next season will be another 5-11 or 6-10 conference record. Why doesn't Lamar play Tyger College, St. Benedict Arnold, or Southwest Northern Oklahoma ON THE ROAD so the team can experience what it feels like to win there? The only good thing playing these teams at home is a free BBQ sandwich at Willie Ray's.
 19.
I believe that Wayne Mehaffey, the baseball coach, is being considered for the job.
He would be a good choice.  HF is going to have problems attracting top notch candidates coming off a 0 - 10 season and the district they are in.  It seems to me if they have a couple of guys in the program who are familiar with the athletes and qualified for the position, they would look to promote within.
 20.
Surely they will have more qualified people from outside the area apply.
Apparently that hasn't worked out too well with the last two coaches.
 21.
I think Billy Tilton needs the job by far
Billy Tilton is probably the frontrunner for the job.
 22. I agree Dirty D it's a "nice" way of asking someone to leave.
 23. AAW, you always pride yourself on being accurate.  There is a big difference between not extending a contract and non renewal of a contract.  The HF board did not extend Mangan contract for a second year.  Now he is working with a one year contract instead of a two year contract. He has a job at HF for another year if he chooses to stay.  A nonrenewal is the same thing as a termination requiring a due process hearing, which apparently is not what happened.
 24.

Wasn't the previous AD ran out of HF?
Ran out one night by an angry mob...at least that's how I remember it
If that "angry mob" would focus their intensity more on developing athletic prowess rather than running off coaches, HF would become a power house in all sports!!!  ;D ;) :D
