2. I'm trying to remember the list since Tubbs' first stint: Tubbs, Foster, Abatemarco, Newell, Branch, Giovanni, Deane, Tubbs, and Roccarforte. Is that the right order? Did I skip anyone?
 3. Brad Stevens, coach at Butler, was probably the youngest D1 coach (29 I think) when he got that job.  He's worked out nicely for them.
 4.
No offense to the said coach, but at HF we are trying to move foward not backwards with an old coach leave the past in the past.
There is no way this guy would return to HF.  This discussion started when Stevenash suggested that HF hire a combo superintendent/head basketball coach.  From what I remember he had his administration certification. But I promise you that Blue Dove and all the parents would love to have this guy back.  He is an outstanding basketball coach.  HF will be fortunate to hire a guy like him and should use his resume to set the qualifications for the new coach.
 5. Maybe HF has a "rich uncle". And Blue Dove says they have the talent for 3 or 4 state championships!!!  ;D ;D ;D Nice combination.
Thats a dang good idea!!! I believe a former HF BB coach from the early 2000's got his administration certification.
But, does this former coach have a winning track record?
Yes.  He definitely has a winning track record...probably the best BB coach in HF history.  He took them further in the playoffs than any team ever advanced.  When he left HF, he took his new school to state 2 or 3 years.  He is now the head coach at a Houston area 4A school.

 9.
I listened to a superintendent tell a group of teachers that he could cut ALL athletics from his district and that amounted to about 4% of the district budget. He could then cut all administrative positions, including himself, and save an additional 3%.  The problem is they expect the state to cut them 30%!  In his words, cutting athletics and any program in general wouldn't make a dent in this thing!  Payroll is 85% of the budget and teachers are being laid off already, including assistant coaches.  I think this whole budget thing is a LOT more serious than the public realizes at this point.
It will be very difficult politically for a school district to layoff 20 or 30 teachers and not cut athletics or administrators regardless of how small a dent those cuts make in the budget.  One estimate is that school districts will lose approximately $1,000 per student in state money.  Multiply the total students in your districts by $1,000 and see the impact that loss will have.  School districts can't make up those losses by raising local tax rates because those rates are capped.  The Texas Comptroller, Susan Combs, warned legislators that this shortfall is not a one year issue, but will affect the state budget for at least the next four years.

He will remain with the school district." I have followed up on this with a phone call and it is confirmed.
With the huge budget shortfall facing Texas and school districts, its impressive that HF is able to add staff while all other schools are laying off teachers. EDITED by LAZEEK!!!!
Gee, Lazeek, my original post was so much more informative than your "edited" version.

Let's see any of those other sites compete with that!!!!
 13.
Sooooo the staff starts planning the banquet a month earlier lol. You are making it out like this compares to putting a man on the moon
Gabe, are you really this clueless or is it just a slow news day in Orange County? The "staff" you refer is made up of volunteer members of the Beaumont Lions Club.  Some of these guys are 70 or 80 years old.  Not only did many of them know Willie Ray Smith, they attended games he coached. The "staff" has to wait for 30+ head coaches to submit their nominees.  You think that’s done in a timely manner?  Coaches won't call in game results to the newspapers.  So how high a priority do you think Willie Ray Smith nominations are? Then a committee (you may be a part of this) go through 60+ players to determine the 4 offensive and 4 defensive finalists.  I hope this committee spends more than the couple of minutes it takes you to vote. The Lions Club holds a press conference in January to announce the finalists and once the finalists are named start selling tickets for the banquet.  Most people don't buy tickets until the finalists are known. Finally, they have a speaker, usually a college coach, so they have to coordinate the date of the banquet with the speaker’s schedule. Gabe, since you are a part of the voting process, I am very surprised that you would publicly criticize the scheduling of the Willie Ray Smith Awards that’s put on by a volunteer organization.
 14.
So this couldn't be pulled off because what? It is done across the board in professional and college sports and I promise you those guys are busier than I am and it took me a total of ooohhhh four minutes to vote. Yes it can be done in early January.
I don't think the NFL has a big banquet to name MVP's or rookie of the year, don't they just announce the winners to the media?  I suppose if there was not a Willie Ray Smith banquet, where tickets are sold to parents, players, and coaches, they could announce the winners in December.

I am in the media so maybe I shouldn't say this but I have never liked the voting and ceremony being done in February. What takes so long? The Heisman doesn't even take that long and no pro sport does their MVPs two or three months after their season is over and HUNDREDS of people vote for some of those awards. I simply don't get it.
Gabe, When would you suggest the banquet is held?  Before the season is over? During the Christmas holidays?
whats wrong with first part of January?
I suppose the Willie Ray Smith banquet could be held in early January.  High school coaches would need to submit their nominees in early December even though some teams are still playing into December and the state championships are played in mid December.  Then the selection committee would determine the finalists  in mid December.  The news media voters would need to vote during the Christmas/ New Year holidays.  The Lions Club members would forego their holiday hunting or ski trips to tally the votes. Those are all likely occurrences.

 17. I agree AAW.  If they play the first scheduled games there, all the fans will be issued complimentary BISD hardhats.
Nope. I saw the date on the original pic from the digital camera. It was 8-4-10.
BadMedicine states that he passes by there every day.  Just to be on the safe side, I'll be passing by there in a couple of hours...
I don't memorize the construction progress, but it seems further along than that picture indicates.  However, I don't see how anyone could change the letter without a lift,  its too high.  So I think it is photoshopped, but if it is not photoshopped we will know, BISD will call a special emergency board meeting to approve the installation of 25 video cameras pointed at the sign.
