  1. This is the last I'm saying about argyle/center because obviously this is an argyle/silsbee thread. As for refs...Yea I think they could've been better. Do I think they beat center? Not exactly. Center was 10-17 from FT's for the game and missed 9 or so shots right around the bucket (4ft or less) if I counted correctly (I've watched the film twice now). If half of these go in and a few more FT's we win by double digits. Cookie just didn't crumble our way Friday evening. Just how it goes sometimes. With that said, I do have some interesting numbers that I wrote down. Through 3 qtrs, center had a total of 8 fouls called against them, while argyle had 13. I think there were a couple missed calls both ways through 3 qtrs. The score was 36-34 argyle's favor heading to 4th. In the 4th qtr, argyle committed 3 fouls. 2 of which were intentional "take" fouls with under 1 min to go. Center, on the other hand, had 8 fouls called against them in the 4th. Only 1 was intentional, late in 4th. Argyle shot 6-12 from FT's in the 4th, Center was 0-0. Argyle did not have a made FG over the last 4:30 or so of the game. All points from then on were FT's. It was unfortunate for Center, but it is what it is. Life goes on. I'll be pulling for the Tigers to get it done against Argyle Friday afternoon.
  2. You're exactly right. Argyle was the best when it mattered. And you're right that I'm not blaming refs. Center had their chances. It was just one of those days for the Riders where we couldn't buy a bucket around the rim. We probably missed at least 10-15 shots less than 5ft away. I think what makes it tough for us Rider fans to swallow from the loss was the fact that 2 former refs of 20+ years from that chapter, who watched all 3 games in commerce, thought that argyle got the "benefit of the doubt" on numerous occasions. I know, as a homer, that any fan can be biased towards what WE see and what WE don't see. So for me personally, it kind of validated what I thought I was seeing. Another observation by those 2 retired refs...center, paris, and Lincoln's rosters were predominately black kids. Argyle was predominantly white (1 black kid who never played). I'll let you guess what race the refs were. And before anyone says that I'm being racist, or am a racist, just know that I'm a white guy, haha. Call it what you want...good coaching, bad refs, or whatever....they're in San Antonio and my Riders are not. Good luck to silsbee this weekend!
  3. Its because you're trying to be confused. ...which makes you look ignorant. They're not going to be careless and play a sloppy game. I never said they got away with mistakes. Its not a mistake if you're not called for it, right? As rider78 stated, their guards push off alot...#5 more so than #3. But they do it in a way that is very subtle. Its not that eye popping, without a doubt, full extension push off that leaves the defender off balance and awkward looking. One thing they were called for multiple times, though, was a moving screen. I bet they had 5 or 6 of those calls go against them...which, I would say probably isn't too terribly bad given the number of screens they set. I hope silsbee wins. Some folks asked for opinions on argyle, so that's what I offered. I would venture to say they will likely be the least athletic team in San Antonio this weekend. But they don't win with athleticism. They win with discipline. Good luck
  4. I'll say this...those refs did seem to turn a blind eye to a lot of things argyle did....in both games. Argyle was by far the least athletic team in commerce. But on the flipside, they were by far the most disciplined. As far as depth, they played about an 8 man rotation. Their PG, #3, Nathan Priddy, is their guy. He can dribble, shoot, and pass. They run their offense like a well oiled machine. Don't look for them to make many careless mistakes. They will set screens and pass and screen some more until they find the shot they want. They're not going to rush shots. They are excellent at blocking out for rebounds. And they have a knack for finishing around the goal. They're just a fundamentally sound team.
  5. They are....Very methodical on offense. They work the ball around until they get the shot they want. They are very fundamental
  6. Argyle beat Center 47-45, then beat Paris in the region 2 final, 53-34.
  7. My point is, just because they beat them twice, doesn't necessarily mean they "owned" them.
  8. Center up 14-10 after 1st. Riders playing without starter, Sr G Kyle Parks as well
  9. Just got word that Sr PG Octavius Evans won't be playing tonight for the Riders and may be out 2-3 weeks with an ankle injury. District play starts Friday. Talk about bad timing...
  10. Final from Longview tourney yesterday. Semis Center 70 Pro Vision Academy 78 PVA went on to beat 6A #1 Houston Sam Houston in the championship. Think the score was 66-63.
  11. Final - Longview tourney Center 62 Lifestyle Christian 50
  12. Center beat Marshall 50-37. Will play in championship at 3:30.
  13. Congrats to BC on the hard fought win. Center had their chance to put a strangle hold on the game to begin he 2nd half but couldn't get any points. Our defense played about how I expected. Offensively, I thought we looked pretty good. I know the box score shows that BC held us to 7 second half points, but imo, they had no answer for QB Kyle Parks and WR Octavius Evans all night. I'm honestly surprised we didn't just feed him the ball the 4th qtr. Seemed like we wouldn't go to him until 3rd downs. Center had a huge 3 and out offensively about midway thru the 4th, with the score tied, that I thought really put all the momentum in BC's favor. On a side note, Center lost bout 10-12 seconds off the clock during BC's final offensive possession. BC broke a long run to deep in center's territory. However a flag brought the play back. The game clock continued to run after the play. 2 observations about this. the clock should've stopped for 1st down until ball was spotted....and ball should've stopped because of flag. When the runner was tackled, there was about 2:45 left on clock. It ran down to 2:22 before it was finally stopped. The refs tried to get it corrected. 2:55 was put back on the clock. Then it was reset to 2:33. The refs either didn't have mics for the game or they weren't working. Either way, the clock never was correct. BY NO MEANS am I saying this is what lost the game for center. We didn't make the necessary plays to come out on top. But one can only wander what would've happened if we would've had that extra 10-12 seconds at the end of the game. Again, congrats BC on the win. Proud of my Roughriders for putting up a valiant effort. Good luck there rest of he way BC.
  14. I agree. I think our week 10 bye will have helped us in getting some starters back healthy and ready to go. I think as long as our QB isnt constantly running for his life, center has a good chance to get the W
  15. With all due respect, Henderson was the best team Center saw this year, and the worst matchup we have had as well. That being said, that game was the absolute worst Center has looked all season. Don't get me wrong, I feel Hendo is head and shoulders better than Center, and it wouldn't have mattered if we had played better. That's how impressive yall looked to me. In fact, the only 2 games this season where I felt like the Riders were just over matched and whipped up and down the field, was against Hendo and Gladewater. Folks soon forgot that we went toe to toe for a half with Gilmer (down 27-21 @ half) before falling apart in the 2nd (70-21 final). Carthage score looked bad, but we had alot of self inflicted wounds and I honestly don't think carthage was that much better than center. I couldnt tell u the last time we played well against them though, honestly...10-12 years ago maybe? It's been no secret that Center's biggest weaknesses this year have been our O-line and defensive secondary. O-line has struggled against BIG athletic defensive fronts. Secondary has tugged against, well, everyone, really. But they have shown noticeable improvement. Our defensive front hasn't been as bad as you say we are. Sure, we've had not so good moments, but they've also had plenty of good, solid games.
  16. What's been said on a couple other sites is that starting QB dropped 45 lb weight on starting RB toes/foot in the weight room today. possible broken bones. Anyone from BC, is there any truth to this? I sure hate to see anyone go down with an injury this time of the year....and for it to be an off the field injury (if it's true) makes it that much worse, imo.
  17. We are 6-4. Losses came at the hands of Gilmer, Gladewater, Carthage, and Henderson
