Understandable.  But perception is reality.  And Silsbee has been beaten 4 times this year with the fastest kid in the nation on their roster.  Sure does make it seem likely that the defending state champ can figure out how to do it too.

I know you are being sarcastic, but I guarantee after the game you walk away thinking Carthage will win state.

Carthage got a track star in the secondary too. 2 time defending state champ in the 400. He is a SR this year, and will end his career with 3 gold medals in that event. Yea, Carthage isn't exactly slow.

Just in case people don't realize, the only reason Carthage hasn't put 60-70 points on the board in almost every game is because the 2's and even sometimes 3's go in during part of third and all of fourth quarters- on a running clock in many games. Surratt chooses to let opposing team leave with some dignity and give the backups and younger kids valuable playing time and experience. 

Agree. I don't think anybody is saying Silsbee won't hit some big plays. Little Belichick and Preston will have a scheme that will try to limit those big plays. Carthage has to be very careful on special teams too. But I just don't believe Silsbee will line up and run the ball on Carthage consistently. I think early it will be close, and once Carthage D adjust to what Silsbee is doing the Dawgs will pull away. Very similar to the Kilgore game. If Silsbee can't run the ball they will throw 2+ interceptions. Carthage secondary has some ball hawks in Ware and Colbert. Carthage will score 40+. Just have to see if Silsbee offense can get it done. I am not taking a shot at Silsbee at all. I got Carthage in this one by 25+. Carthage is on another level this year. More like the 2008-2013 teams of the past. I think Silsbee fans can remember how bad of beatdowns Carthage was handing out during those years. Good luck to both teams and safe travels to all the fans in attendance.

Silsbee looked great,  offensive line was massive, and Coach Surratt said that your QB was the best one we have seen so far this year.  Congratulations on a well played game and a good season.   Nothing g to hang your heads about.   Thanks for the great game.  Good luck in the rest of your  year.  Just glad the Dawgs won.

I would never bet against Surratt and company once the playoffs begin.  I think Carthage takes this one 55-34.

If your goal is a State Title it's early. Trust me, being this close and losing is not a good feeling. If we lose it's a early release.

Gonna go against the grain. I believe the first half is where the blowout will occur. 41-13 Dawgs at the half. Carthage starters will get a break late in third quarter.

I'm not a Carthage fan...but I know anything is possible.  Of course anything is possible.. Newton beat WOS last year.  Does that mean Newton couldve played in the state championship game in 4AD2?  Well I don't think that's what it means...but by your logic of comparing scores I guess it's possible.
I've been saying since I created my account that yes...setx has tremendous players.  It's obvious by the countless kids playing in FBS and FCS every single year.  I've also said...then why is setx not winning more against other areas of the state?  Well I have a good idea, but the concept seems to be an alien idea to setx fans.  People keep saying "we don't have to have what they have, or do what they do, and we still win".  Well....locally. 
I could honestly care less who wins this game.  I'm not from here.  I'm not from Carthage.  I have no ties to either place.. I live down here because of work.  I stay down here because of the fishing and the food.  Who will win?  I have no idea.  But, I honestly think Carthage will win...because the last decade or so East Texas just seems to keep doing so.  Some of you say cocky and arrogant... I just think it's attitude and expectation.  Some of you say recruiting..I say attracting.  No matter what you call it...it's winning.  I won't think otherwise until I'm proven wrong.  Here's your chance Silsbee.
And no it doesn't matter who won their district.  #3 and #4 seeds are winning 1st and 2nd round games all over the state in every sport.

LMAO!!! You have revealed some of deepest darkest secrets, this past week. We closet millionaires recruit our mediocre at best, players. Who knows how we have made it to the playoffs, these past several years. And you are right, we have our own league, with a draft and everything of "powder puff" football. We have games several times a week; after work. One correction though, we like to play in the stadium so we can watch ourselves on the JumboTron, Surratt doesn't have one of those in the indoor facility for some reason. We need to work on that.  

I'll take the field vs silsbee anyday.

People who get their dander up over a sports message board probably should refrain from having conversations where divergent points of view are exchanged.
Perhaps some Anger management therapy would benefit them and provide them with skills at pleasant social interaction with other anonymous participants engaged in the talking of smack regarding the pros and cons of their respective  hometown's sporting activities; I.e., Football, baseball, basketball, horse shoes & so on.
Also, consumption of alcohol and other mind altering substances only exacerbates as well as escalates the degree of "hurt butt" experienced by these individuals who find themselves dispossessed of a credible leg upon which to stand while coversing in smack, and is strenuously discouraged.
Hopefully, adherence to sobriety and decorum will one day lead to increased levels of pleasant dialogue during discussions about sporting events at Educational Facilities, which in the grand scheme of things, are intended to be a diversion from the less enjoyable activities in the lives of people, such as Work!
 

I am confused with the conversations on here: practice, indoor facilities, giving jobs to recruit players, basketball, and baseball. What will we talk about next, soccer perhaps? We are 3 days away from a big football game and there is not very many valid points that prove why you think that Silsbee wins. You are too caught up on thinking that Carthage just feels like they are better and look down on Silsbee. U-Know was right when he stated "On Friday night, when you look across the field, you will see, stands full of your average hard working middle class families. People who work hard day in and day out to provide for their families." I am proud to be from Carthage and be a part of a good football run the last 6 years or so, Carthage people have not always had good teams to watch but have always been supportive. We all know that it's more fun to follow a winning team and tend to complain when things are not going our way. As I have said before, this will be a game played by 2 teams that have earned the right to be here  and have a chance of winning this game. I have no doubt that Silsbee will have some success and play hard, they are a very fast and aggressive team. I just have to support Carthage and believe that what progress they have made every week, they will come out on top on Friday night. Go Dawgs!

Proud of what fact?..  I said I wanted setx to catch up with the rest of the state.  Just because my handle is "oldschool" doesn't mean I'm above adapting.  I was a good player because I adapted to NEW ideas.  Nobody was more excited about the 3 point line than me...I'd been shooting from there and beyond my whole life.  ADAPT
That's what is so aggravating..  It would be different if the schools down here were doing those things.  Instead all I hear is "we're #4 (or whatever) in the state and we don't have turf or a new school".  Yeah ranked high because you may go 9-1 beating these other crappy setx schools.  That don't mean you're good...it might just mean you haven't played anyone.  Crosby, Kirbyville, East Chambers, Newton, ..powerhouses..all at home.  I'll admit Silsbee is having a good run.  Last week was an impressive win.  But gonna take a lot more than that to get me on board.  I want to see some hardware.

Soooo....by your logic what did Silsbee people know about the Tigers that Dave Cambell didn't? Silsbee got 0 top 10 preseason votes but they made it to the elite eight. Rankings don't mean a thing. Heck I think Carthage was in the top 10 last year and had no business there.
Apparently a lot if they are not ranked. Please tell me you don't listen to rankings. Even with our "mighty" dawgs we don't care about high rankings. People look at returning starters and base it off that. How Lincoln is not ranked beats the crap out of me. They barely loss to power James Madison and they were very young. Point guard was a freshmen. I'd be very surprised if they don't win it all. Rankings mean nothing. All they do is sell magazines and increase website traffic. 

I'm not surprised that you call it bashing...because of the way you're taking it.  The area doesn't have to be this way.  I keep suggesting things to bring setx to par with the rest of the state..I would truly like to see it.  But every time I suggest something I'm "bashing".  So...whatever.  Fact is that your setx schools still do things the same way they did 30 years ago...and you're all ok with it.  Facilities, coaching stipends, number of coaches, teacher salaries, etc...and you wonder why the rest of the state is leaving you behind.  Whatever man...keep using WOS and Newton as your measuring stick for football.  And who for basketball?  Kountze, HJ, Silsbee, Ozen, Big Sandy, Central...for basketball.  I'll be the guy over here watching state championship trophies go other places.

i know that. The fan was responding to some things that have been said about Carthage fans on this post. That's why I made that statement. Anytime someone says Carthage will win yall say "why are we even playing the game? Give it to Carthage."
As for the get a grip part, how in the heck does a message board make you angry to a point you have to use exclamation marks (yelling)? You may need to get a grip yourself if a message board does this to you. All I've been on here is respectful.

The more I think about it...the more I realize..  Even with all of these #1 rankings and 30+ win seasons...the area doesn't really bring home any hardware in basketball either.  Not for a while anyway.  Accept ion...Yates maybe.  Most highly recruited school in all of greater Houston.  Lol.    I mean...without a doubt the best team in the entire area for it's class (Big Sandy) lost the state championship last year to a bunch of medium sized football players.
Makes me realize even more than there is a lot of "I'm not as good as I think" going on around here.  Makes me lean more and more towards Carthage.
