1. No, sorry again Homerun322.  Childish is coming on here with a lot of people who have busted their butts for these kids for years, and who continue to bust their butts to help these kids grow and mature not just in the game but in life as well - And having to read posts like these....

If you want to call out a coach because of their conduct, don't hide behind a screen name and post a bunch of contradictions like these to do it.  Be big enough and mature enough to say what you mean.  All you've done is belittle yourself, and make us wonder what your OTHER screen name is....

    Some of us aren't stupid!

........No I do not have a child nor any relation to any team in this area.........
2. Sorry - I call BS!!!!

........ No I do not have any relation to anyone, just good coaches, teams and most of all the kids. As a college player, coach, and scout........
You claim to be a former College player, now a Coach and a scout....  Sorry - I don't know any College softball scouts, unless they ARE a Coach, and they don't call themselves SCOUT - Their business card says COACH!!!
Raider9900.        No I do not have a child nor any relation to any team in this area. Only from here and scout for a college.........
Ditto - scout or COACH?
........And if you knew anything about scouting 10u is the perfect age to catch upcoming talent. 12-14u is not where you start it's where you follow the stand out kids. Then you pick them up and play hard ball as a scout. Scouting these young girls should make you happy to know that they are already being looked at........
SO - If so many quit between 12-16, why would want to invest all that time "scouting" kids that more likely than not are going to quit, and not be around when you get ready to make offers? Sounds like a waste of valuable budget and "scouting" time for a college.....
........UIL will not allow me to tell anyone at this age I am a scout........

........Natural ability is noticed at this age. Then between the ages of 12u-16u there are so many that quit that it is a waste of time to start there........  You know as well as I you can't speak to any kid until they are a JR. You would be totally amazed at the talent that quits because of Coaching.........
Wait - Are you a HS "scout" or a college "scout"?  Because I think even 10U parents know UIL and TAPPS are the regulating bodies for Texas High School sports, and the NCAA / NAIA / NJCAA are the regulating bodies for Collegiate sports.

Sorry - there are just too many shady statements here for me to believe you are even associated with a college, much less a "scout".  Looks to me like you are just on here to start something, and I call BS !!!
  3. Sorry for jumping in at the end, but this has been a long week, and all of it "out of pocket", away from the web ....

CRUSH (Birdwell) ended up 2-2 in Plano.  We had coaches at all 4 games, incuding Craig Ranch and Heritage.  We got several good looks for both of our seniors (probably got both of them locked up), and our 'young-uns' made some good impressions as well.

Both of my seniors spent Friday night emailing LATE updates to coaches, and dispite all of the schedule changes, they were able to find us!  It's the players' job to get them there, and ours did their part!
  4. THANKS to everyone who made it out last Sunday!

We will be continuing our try-outs as follows:

Sunday   Aug. 15 @  5:00 pm

[s]Saturday Aug. 21 @ 10:00 am[/s] Sunday Aug 22 @ 2:00 pm

Sunday   Aug. 29 @  2:00 pm
We are looking for PLAYERS who can compete on and off the field, regardless of AGE.  Please come give us a try and see what we are about!

As always - Feel free to call me if you have questions or concerns, or need an adjusted schedule.

  5. Orange CRUSH 18U Gold (Birdwell) [formerly R Brown] will be holding try-outs at the CRUSH fields in West Orange on the following dates and times:

Sunday   Aug.  8 @  5:00 pm (with CRUSH "Harrell")

Sunday   Aug. 15 @  5:00 pm (open practice)

[s]Saturday Aug. 21 @ 10:00 am[/s] Sunday Aug 22 @ 2:00 pm (with CRUSH "Harrell")

Sunday   Aug. 29 @  2:00 pm (open practice)
We are looking for, at a minimum, 1 catcher, 1 pitcher, 1 middle infielder, and 1 outfielder.  We will carry 12-14 players on our roster.

Our goal, as a team, will be to promote our players as they extend their softball careers into the collegiate level.  We will primarily participate in Exposure events, ASA Gold Qualifiers, and local tournaments.  We will also attempt to Qualify and participate in 1 National tournament in the summer of 2011.

We are looking for players who are excellent students, of exceptional character, and who are willing to learn how to succeed both on the field and off.

Please contact me if you have any questions.  Confidential individual try-outs may be arranged as needed.

  6. When players move to different teams it just opens a spot for another one to move in.

I've noticed the key to winning games in softball is the pitcher. I would make an aggreement between the summer teams that pitchers are protected if they are on a roster.

What I am learning is there is NO mutual agreement between anybody anymore.  Committment is a word of the past. Some of us know how to honor a 'gentleman's agreement', but many do not.

I will say this, though - I AM proud to be a part of CRUSH if for no other reason than we, as an organization, can discuss issues that affect us, and come to agreements without cutting each others throats.  We may not all agree, but we DO work together for the good of the players who are on our rosters.

  7. Parents and players should do what is right for the family.  Some players strive to go to college, some don't. Some strive for higher levels of competition and for higher levels of play.

If a player and their family are not getting their needs met, BEFORE they sign an ASA roster or any other roster and their needs are not getting met then they should move on.  This is not 12U we are talking here, it's levels of committment.  I have also heard that the team they left was not committed to putting the best 9 on the field when it mattered.

I make it a point at the beginning of every year (Aug - July) to try to make sure the players and parents who were selected from the tryouts to play on my team KNOW that my goal is college scholarships - not trophies, not championships, not winning at all costs.

I don't have a problem at all with a player leaving whose needs are not met, but that's why I TRY to make sure they know my goals.  I've had players leave before, and will have players leave again.  My issue is when there IS already a roster in place, as you stated here.  I lost 6 players in January, and THANK GOD I asked who was and who was NOT planning on coming back, or I would have met LAST WEEK with a 7-player roster (some people don't whisper very quietly, but then, asking players AT PRACTRICE to go play for another team has a way of getting to be public knowledge as well). And I also agree - It's an issue of committment - committment to a team, committment to your teammates, committment to your coaches, committment to honor a decision.  I've never cut a kid during the season, and don't plan on doing it - ever, and ESPECIALLY so I can replace them with better talent!  If I ask a player and their family for a 12-month committment, I hold myself to same standard, that being to honor it as well, regardless of skill or talent.  Again, I have had kids whose priorities change, and after discussing our options, I've parted ways with more than one player and family.  I'm not saying it CAN'T happen!  But it should be something both parties agree to, or at least agree to disagree.  DISCUSSION IS THE KEY!

  8. We had this discussion two years back ,Remember OCG and GTS were forming  ;) Players were recruited by both teams and people were unhappy but such is life and we all moved on . Players join travel ball teams that best benefit them and there goals some coaches for Gold ball worry more about exposer and some are there to be competitive which in return brings colleges and exposer  ,playing the best nine signed or unsigned  . College exposier is great but if you sacrifice being the best team you can to expose certain kids how fair is that   . Commitment goes two ways, if a coach does not give a player the best competition IN other players on his or her team He or she also failed with there commitment. So if a D1 college steals a player from JUCO they are wrong . He@@ no they are trying to get better and the kid is trying to go somewere that best benefits them . I in no way am for or against, everyone has to make choices and some end up bad and some work out great .

SO....  Can a D1 steal a SIGNED JUCO player?  As in, if the player has already committed, and signed to play with a JUCO, can they break that commitment and go play for a D1?  What is involved in that process?
