  1. This is a great first game for both teams. Both teams will be better than last season. If Tatum fans think Newton will start out slow like they do every season, then it's going to be a long night. I dont think anyone can really predict this game. Of course I want to say Newton, but realistically, this game can go either way. Same caliber of athletes on the field! Newton will be much better offensively and defensively than last year. I'm excited about seeing what Tatum has. It's always fun to watch them.

Don't worry about Tatum.. We awful.

We're not very big but we make up for it by being slow.

  2. Our stadium does provide the visiting team with a private press box. Tatum's new stadium can't match that, but I guess the visiting team gets one of four floors when playing at Tatum's stadium.

lol Tatum's new stadium is like 40 years old..

  3. As a team you don't get better playing pansies. Tatum has tradition, talent and numbers. Newton won't back down, but we are always slim on numbers. One or two key injuries could be devastating for us. I think we will be better than last year, later in the season. We also will have a new OC to call plays. Same wing T with scats but might have a few formation wrinkles. Just have to lineup and see. I'll be there just like last year. Excited about Newton Eagle football. I can taste that smoked boudain already!

Our depth is lacking this season. Won't have 50 on the sidelines like in the past.

Looking forward to those new wrinkles......

We don't go no new wrinkles. lol

  4. Newton's secondary is still vulnerable. A lot of our better defensive backs are our running backs and they are not in shape to go both ways so we have secondary backs in some of the positions. By the time districts starts these kids are better and some of our running backs go both ways.

Tatum has more kids and will be the favorite in this game.  But, just as last year when district starts, Newton will be ready to play. We will not see anything in the playoffs with the talent of Henderson, WO-S and Tatum. Br. City and Orangefield are much improved. If we survive without any major injuries, we will be ready for anything playoffs throw at us.

As far as winning state, you not only have to be good you have to have a little luck also.

That's big for us too.. For the first time in about 2 or 3 years we are healthy heading into the start of the season. Had 3 out last year against Newton including our QB..

He looked pretty good last night in Fairfield scrimmage..

  5. One week from today, the Newton Eagles will face off with Tatum for the first game of the season. I was there for last years game and it was not pretty by any means. Newton was full of athletes last year as they are every year, but the problem in week one was that there was so many young players playing in positions that they have never played. The guys most definitely had the talent, they just were not familiar with the position. As the year went along, they started playing the positions tremendously better. Now, the plus about this season is that every position is filled with guys that have played the position before and will know it well going into week one. Our offense will be exceptionally better with coach Barbay back in Newton calling the plays and with his son being the quarter back. His son knows the playbook like the back of his hand and was the starting QB for Coldsprings last season. Having them two gives Newton's offense a huge plus from last years offense. Now, I know Newton lost Ronny Elam and Calum Foster on defense last year, but the overall defense will be a lot better. Newton will have another division 1 safety this season. The Linebacker core will be way better than last season with the guys having a whole year under their belt... We all know what Tatum brings to the table, but we will see a week 10 Newton team in week 0 for the first time in many years. That being said, this game will be a hard fought out game.

    Good post.

  6. what was the outcome in the tatum/EF scrimmage, alot of people are high on EF early this season, so how did the green eagles handle them

Not too bad. Defense gave up 3 first downs. Offense averaged about 12 yards a play. Only ran 5 different a plays all night.

We we should be alright this year.  The poisons graduated. Return 4 starting OL, QB is a three year starter. Got every RB we had last year back plus a new one who looked the best.

Defense didn't get much of a look last night.

EF has a long ways to go if they wanna compete for anything.

  7. 1East Bernard(12-2)
    2Newton(12-4)
    3Elysian Fields(8-4)
    4Cisco(13-1)
    5Waskom(15-1)

Curious to see how Waskom responds having new faces everywhere. I think their new QB will be better than the one that graduated. He started at EF as a freshman and some last year till he got hurt and lost his spot. But that was in a wide open spread offense.. Who knows how he'll handle the stuff that Waskom runs.

Little birdy told me Newton is going to more of a hurry up this year....... Any truth?
