  1. Nederland has a freshman that is going to get his share of PT. Kirby Bellow is a good first baseman and he got his bat going yesterday in Deer Park. The PA News said he was 2-3 but he was actually 3-3, all sharp line drives.
  2. I would say more then a few of the runs were unearned against Helmke. The Dogs were charged with only 2 errors but there were at least 2-3 other plays that really should have been made. The defense needs to step up or the season is not going to be near as successful as anticipated.
  3. Mighty exciting game. Nederland took a 4-0 lead after the first half inning and most fans sat back expecting a blow out. First inning highlights included a 2 run homer by Josh Cabra. NC defense looked suspect in that first inning and Ryan Sampare looked sharp on the mound. Score remained 4-0 until NC player hit a 3 run bomb and made the score 4-3 after 3. Other then that pitch, "Sam Perry" did great job. 5-3 after Moshier hit a double and scored on 2 wild pitches. NC scored 1 and had runners on first and second when the Dogs defense came up big....a base hit to left looked like a sure tying run for NC when a perfect strike to the cut off man and a perfect relay to home cut down the NC runner trying to score from second base. Score was 5-4 at the end of that inning. 6-4 at the end of 6 and a half when the dogs defense went south for a half inning. I think we were only charged with 1 error but there were 3 plays that should have been made that were not.....bottom line, NC scored 2 to tied the game at the end of 7 innings. Due to the time limit, we did something I have never seen in baseball before, we used the softball tie-breaker. Starting with a runner on second and 2 outs, Aaron had a basehit to center, scoring Micah from second. Aaron went to second on the throw home. Alex followed with a base hit scoring Aaron to give us a 8-6 lead before we got our "third" out. NC scored once in their version of the tie breaker and we finally came off the field with a 8-7 victory. I remember Beau had 3 hits and Micah had a double to go along with hits previously mentioned. Hope we get the final game in this afternoon.
  4. Guess I am a little thick......the ball came from WHICH dugout?
  5. 4th inning Nederland=3 Lumberton=0 "its senior day at the ballpark so Nederland's under-classmen starters are not playing" Big Ned only has 5 kids that are not seniors and 4 of those 5 started (one was the DH) so I am not sure where that statement is coming from..... Doesn't matter, final score of 10-0 in 6 innings is what matters. That locks 2nd in the District for the Dogs.
  6. No one is giving Nederalnd much credit here. With a returning backfield, almost all the offensive line back, and a more experienced line backing crew, they will make some noise. Gotta have a couple of receivers step up....Butler will be hard to replace and certainly Mohica on the defensive side has been a force for 4 years, but if they can stay injury free, they are going to be good. Central and Ozen may have the athletes (so everyone thinks) but the Dogs have the heart!
  7. Bears, I must not have made my point clearly enough........while both teams had to put up with the poor balls and strikes calling, Nederland had the 2 critical, game changing calls occur to them, costing 2 runs. I am not whining and even if I was it would not change the fact that the "W" is in the LCM column, LCM obviously has a great team. It is a shame that, let's see, I think the words were something to the effect that a "gutless dog" was behind the plate. I think there might have been a few more adjectives added to that description last night, but that is as far as I will go here.......
  8. As everyone has agreed, the plate umpire last night was pathetic. His strike zone moved from pitch to pitch, there were times he looked as if he was watching another game. He was equally pathetic for both teams. What got Coach Robbins was the first call of a passed ball when it was obviously a foul tip. That is what set him off. He was already gone when the second terrible call of a hit batsman occurred in the 7th. Fortunately for LCM (and unfortunately for Nederland) these were the two calls that made the difference in the game. Yes, Nederland's defense in the last 2 innings left something to be desired, but it would not have come down to that had these poor calls not occurred. It will be a different story when LCM comes to Nederland!!!!
  9. Dogs clobbered Westbury today, 12-1 in 5 innings. Lots of good hitting today...Micah Mosley, Ryan Sampare, Chris Laird all had 2 hits, Aaron McFarland had a HR. Alex Moshier pitched all five. Defense played well also. Dogs ended up 2-2 in this tough 5A tourney with the 2 losses both being by a run.
  10. Stanley pitched the whole game...did a good job. Tough to win when youhave 2 measly hits.
  11. Correction to PA News......Smith took the loss in yesterday's defeat as it was his runner that scored. Dogs lost another close one today, 4-3 to Cy-Falls. Only had 2 hits against a tough pitcher. Play their final game in this round-robin tournament against Westbury tomorrow at 10.
