    5A

    #1 Beaumont United

    #5 Beaumont West Brook

    #23 Port Arthur Memorial

    4A

    #24 Bridge City

    2A

    #14 San Augustine

    #25 Big Sandy Dallardsville

    1A

    #4 Brookeland

I don’t think Mr. Brad Ernst and/ or coaches if they have a vote, have all of the information if TABC has BU ranked over WB. Not sure if he knows of a high level wing transfer and also 6’10” transfer lol

I watched some clips of that. Beaumont ISD will bring home another State Championship.

Brook v BU for the region championship once again. Semifinals will be an easy dub. The Corpus Team lost its star player to SMU as he reclassified. His dad is at Duncanville.

If Sterling somehow makes the playoffs, BU will go Division 2

    Mt Belvieu Barbers Hill 2092
    Beaumont United 2138
    Beaumont West Brook 2234
    Baytown Lee 1819
    Baytown Sterling 2139
    Nederland 1484.5
    Port Arthur Memorial 2114
    Port Neches-Groves 1701

The Guard from Nederland can really play just a little undersized but I really like his game.

I think WB will Repeat as champs I believe they got bigger and better then last year

the BU vs WB games are going to be cant miss games this year. Lamar better get ready to host

I assume Garrett didn’t play if they only won by 3. He’s likely still recovering. Is there a 6’8” transfer from Vidor on the team?

  4. Living in Houston and having close friends on staff and in administration at NS, the WG coaching progression has me baffled. This guy is an alum and knows what it takes to connect with these kids. But the Calicut situation has made an impact on the program. The kid that was with him was also on the team. Morale factor is certainly playing a part in this early season. He got shot in retaliation and died. This may be one of the better stories if they snap back and get to the finals. I know the parents and uncle of Kaleb Maryland. That kid has the juice. NS has lost early before and came back to run the table. More to come.

Had the hotels and traffic not got so crazy, I would have had no problem with it staying there.

Attended state tourney there every year starting with 1972. 43 years of it there.

SA is hands down better than Austin is in hosting this event. That's from me being a fan and media member. Just better all around.

Check right now and show me how difficult it is to book a room in downtown Austin. After you confirm. Give me another reason. SWSX has books and art this weekend

UIL did the right thing in bringing it to San Antonio.

    Much better in SA.

Now that SXSW is in Austin, it's just not a good place to host any longer. Hotel prices are way too high and the traffic is so bad. Those last couple years in Austin was a complete mess. Teams had to stay 1 to 2 hours away from Austin to get reasonable hotel room prices. Then they had to deal with the traffic.

UIL listened to everyone (admins, coaches, fans) and had to make the decision to move out of Austin. It just wasn't feasible any longer to stay in Austin.

I am glad it's in SA. So much better overall.

Good riddance to Austin. Hope it never goes back there.

And it’s clear and obvious why you don’t like Austin

Let’s talk about the most impressive part of this game  West Brook held them  30 points under their average. That was masterpiece on the defensive end , being physical yet smart

I hate to say this but it’s true. The San Antonio/ Region 4 competition is not as difficult as the Houston or Dallas Regions. Now CCVM did beat 6A state finalist Katy Jordan early in the season here in Houston in the Vype Invitational. However both SA Brennan (6A) and CCVM both lost yesterday. Both were TABC polls #1 team in each classification. What’s funny is MaxPreps had WB as the #1 team in 5A the majority of this season. The region 4 competition is also weaker in football with the exception of Westlake and Vandergrift

you'd have kids having to wake up at 5 to catch the bus or not getting home until 6:00 in the evenings. it would not work. grades would suffer, test scores would suffer, and absenteeism and truancy would rise, all in the name of a better football team? You'd also be greatly decreasing the amount of opportunities for kids to participate in extracurriculars. Combine all of the sports, drill teams, cheer squads, UIL teams, and anything else you can think of, and you have half the spots and twice the kids. To be honest, just about the only thing that would legitimately benefit would be football, and maybe band, although I think there would be some marching band culture lost if you combined the two schools. Are we really doing this so that the new Timberbruins football team can go 7-4? The basketball teams have enough success separated.

I am not where you are from but it doesn’t take an hour to get anywhere in Beaumont. Look at the furthest distance from a zone to either high school and tell me the mileage and amount of a time it would take a bus to arrive. At max 20/30 minutes which is a typical bus ride

Not sure if what I'm finding is accurate. Populations may be similar, but each districts land area is very differrnt. Allen and Allen ISD has an area of about 29 square miles.  Beaumont is around 85, but the district area is over 150. Again, not sure how accurate the ALL KNOWING internet is.  If it is accurate the transportation issue does make a difference

Never worked in school transportation and glad of it!

Yes 21,000 students in Allen ISD and 16,000 in Beaumont ISD. The square mileage would only be a factor for the high school level. It can work

Beyond impractical. How many cities the size of Beaumont in Texas only have one high school? In population, but especially in area. It wouldn’t make sense to be bussing kids 30+ minutes (without even beginning to factor in stops) one way just to have better sports teams. Not mention having to build a new school, replace the staff that wouldn’t travel the extra distance, etc.

Allen iSD has one the high school. The largest in the state. Yes tonight they are in the state semi-finals as well. Population of Allen is very similar to that of Beaumont

    Nice article

Very Proud of this team and the program as a whole. Still disappointed in the 2-point OT loss to Willowridge in the 94 playoffs. That was the pseudo state championship game. Willowridge went on to win state (with ease). But that 94 team with Omar Sneed (jr year) and current Texas State AD Donny Coryell is easily the most talented in school history. Chris Coleman just couldn’t get over the hump for some reason. Including the 1997 Regional Final loss to North Shore. I miss 90’s Basketball lol
