You brought up defense.  What about blocked shots (4), altered shots (a ton), etc?  I would say in a 2 point game (vs Marcus), keeping the other team from being able to effectively score in the paint probably had a big impact on the win.  And by probably, I mean definitively.  But hey, your guys two points and 4 boards in that same game was probably a bigger difference maker.  In the state championship game, when he had 8 & 10 (with 3 blocks), your guy had 3 pts and 5 bds while leading the team in turnovers (4).  We can keep arguing but we can agree to disagree.  Obviously Cam got better over the next two years.  And despite your friends who were parents of his teammates, if you don’t think they don’t win it all that year without him, I’m not the only one who would disagree with you.  Ronnie Courtney would too.

Please read carefully. I never said they would win without him. I said his game and overall impact was not the same that particular year, as it was the next two years. You need to go back and watch those games so you can determine who the primary defensive stopper was on that team. Not just read a box score

Yeah Gatlin was solid, but me thinks you are not giving enough credit to the value of having a 6-11 kid in the middle.  He was a much bigger factor than Gatlin in Austin that year.  They certainly don’t beat that great FM Marcus team (that went back to back the next two years with Marcus Smart and Phil Forte) without him.  No offense but no one is putting your guy Gatlin in a “big 3” with Clark and Richardson over Cam.  As you know, Cam and Kelly were the only two burger boys off of those teams.  And I remember those teams well - my best friend’s sons lost in the state finals to Marcus in ‘12 before bringing home the hardware the following year in route to McD AA game appearances themselves…

We will have to disagree. In the state semifinals against Marcus, Cam had 8 points and 5 rebounds. In the state champion game he had 8 points again. As I mentioned his game was not there yet. Being 6’11” helped but he was not an all district, region or state caliber player that sophomore season. He made major strides that summer. I have close friends who are parents of his teammates and plus I know actual teammates who played with him at Bush.

He was still a force and ended up being the most notable though. But you’re right. Clark and Richardson were probably the best two, although most wouldn’t recognize their names 15 years later.

You forget about my guy Demarcus Gatlin. He didn’t have a ton of points as he transferred from Alief, but his defense and presence was undeniable. With Clark and Richardson, they were the big three. Not Cam he was still Raw. No offense but he wasn’t a force like that until his senior season. Kelly Oubre and Shawndre Jones will definitely attest to that.

How do the UIL determine the semifinal matchups now ? I know when the games were at the tournament it was by record! For example it would make more sense If BU win they’ll play the winner out of SA VM/ Alamo Heights for travel purposes rather than Mansfield Summit or Frisco Memorial ?

It started last year but essentially it mocks football. Region 1 v 2 and 3 v 4 automatically for state semis. Looking at the brackets I don’t see any threats from region 4 for WB or BU. This was different last year as Billy The Kid  White and CC Veterans Memorial were undefeated #1 in TX when they played WB. That kid could play. His dad was their coach. He actually reclassified and said the heck with High school and is playing ACC basketball at SMU

Walnut Grove was a well coached team. They gave Lufkin everything they had. I figured this would be a hard fought game. Lufkin doesn't really face any competition in district. Have won it 5 years straight. It's one of the reason  the none district schedule was so hard this year. The team cruises through none district. Blowing teams out by 20 points. Then has to adjust back to playing better competition. Winning in the playoffs has been the Achilles hill for the program. I think they will be ok after tonight. At least I hope so. Lol

If they played in the same district as the football team does, that would be a very different story lol

Not gonna argue over if Lufkin is better than BU. I have too much respect for what that program has done over the years. I will say Lufkin is no slouch and is deserving of being ranked in the top 10. Lufkin has played about as hard of a schedule as anyone else.  Lufkin has wins over 6A #10 North Shore 6A #11 Kein Oak 6A #20 Grand Oaks. Lufkin also beat 6A #1 Katy Seven Lakes during summer league. With losses to Nationally ranked Utah Timpview, Utah Corner Canyon, Owasso(OK) and Little Elm. So the team has been tested. The biggest hurdle will be playoff experience beyond the 2nd round.

Cant wait to see their regional matchup with Frisco Heritage

I don’t think Moton playing the last two meetings was the X factor! I mean of course his first game back he had a an excellent game but a lot of shots were wide open I don’t think BU players ans coaching staff were familiar with his game ! Last night they were and we didn’t see him perform like he did the 2nd meeting ! But I think the last two meetings after bout the first halves just simply came down to who wanted it more !

You are missing one key fact. His defensive presence. Just like him swatting EJs layup attempt easily.
