Anyone on here planning on fishing on this weekend's S.A.L.T. Tornament?
I'm thinking about the offshore division, but not sure if I will.

FYI
If you can get out there, Sabine is red-hot w/ trout around mid-day. They're feeding on shrimp and ribbonfish, so throw Texas Trout killers. Trust me on this one :cheers
-
I haven't hit anything, but I did notice a huge sand bar near the ship channel, not far from Stewts Island, where that shrimp boat is grounded. I rode out there in my big boat and almost got stuck. That wasn't there before Rita and no telling how many more there are out there. I'd run slower for a while.

I like the nice job you've done on this. It's got to be really hard to pick, when you factor in ALL levels of schools, i.e. 4-A, 5-A etc. It's still hard to pick say, Newton against Memorial. In it's own class, Newton is leagues ahead of Memorial, but head to head, Memorial would demolish them...tuff to pick.
Good Job

Paid my debt to society today...$161.00
Man, I'm gonna eat those snapper real slow!
-
Yep, I did! After fishing for all of my life, and playing strictly by the rules, we were checked by the game wardens today and we had 1 snapper too many. Did he cut me any slack??? NO!.
So now, as the boat owner and captain, and since I assumed responsibility for the oversight, I get to appear before the judge and fork over the ol' moola. Ouch! This sux. Especially after hearing over the past few weeks about all of the big snapper that have been taken unlawfuly, before the season opened, fileted, and smuggled to the docks. Why don't THOSE guys ever get caught?????

I went today to check out the ramps in Sabine. I went to the old Coast Guard station like Supertilly suggested. That IS a good area. I'm not sure about the depth, so I'm a bit concerned about that. Also, the ramps aren't used too much and they're REALLY slimy and steep and could pose a problem for those with big boats.
I also checked out the County ramp. It actually looks pretty decent, with a "ramp closed" sign however, so I called Pct.3 road and bridge dept. and talked to a man there. He said that on a real low tide, they went down and hauled out all of the concrete and debrise that they could find. Looking at the ramps, he said that the one to the extreme left is silted in pretty bad, the middle is questionable, but the one to the right seems to be good, with no complaints. He said that the ramp "is open", but it's launch at your own risk. The "ramp closed" sign is intended for the left ramp only.
Hope this helps.

I've got that "offshore fever" going on now. Hopefully Cooper can keep the winds down so I can make it out. I heard that there are some really nice snapper close in.

Yeah, and by the time I hear about it and can schedule some time off, It'sWAY TOO LATE. Oh well. :scratch

I would love to see Proud diving!! ;omg :damnfunny
Yeah, especially inmy THONG!!!!!!
Seriously, I've got one of those wooden spearguns and it's REAL accurate. Fish fear me when I'm in THEIR territory!!! ::k

I went to Spindletop Bass club on Fri. and was pretty disapointed. Normally at this time of yeear we'll catch 30 or so by lunch time. Fri., however, between 3 boats we only had 30 all together. Don't know what the deal was. The winds are always a challenge out there. It turned out to be windier than the 5-10 as was called for, so boat handling was tougher. That shouldn't have made that much of a difference though. Maybe they ate all night on the full moon and were just taking the 1st half of the day off????

Thanx Jodie. My boat doesn't have the range, but a friend of mine's does. I love to dive too, so that would be nice.
-
That's too rich for my blood. A castaway is about as pricey as I can swing. I DO like fishing with them though. I'm sure the Waterloo is awesome. I'll have to give one a try one day...after I hit 6 numbers in the Lotto! (oh yeah I forgot...I don't buy tickets :? )

Supertilly, thanks, I wasn't aware that the public could launch there. Pleasure Island is another idea. The old section, not the one by the Music Park That one is really steep and I'd never get my boat back out.
-
My #1 would have to be the Rappala
#2 the frog.

Another snapper tip (or 2). For the novice, you can't go wrong with Snapper Slappers. Get the medium sized ones, and tip it with some squid. But don't waste too much time with them, when they work, they work good, but when they don't they DON'T. Also, Jodies right about the big sanapper. You've got to fool them, which is tricky, since they see REAL good. I got away from the wire leaders and went to a big mono, like 200# test. (Make your own) Make the leader long and BURY the hook in the bait. If they see it, they WILL NOT bite it. Also, try to find structure instead of rigs. They'll pay off better in the long run.
Be Safe out there!

They quit making the Curado as we know it. They made a newer version, but it cost $80 more. The replacement is supposed to be the Citica, but I haven't heard any reports about it. If you can find a Curado, you'll love it. You'll probably have to adjust the bearings inside the real to fit your casting abilities, but it's by far the best casting real I've ever thrown. I wish I had 2 more!

Jody, I've been saying that for years!!! What a shame to watch snapper float off because they're 1" short, when, if we could keep them, we'd get a quick limit, then move on to other species, i.e. dolphin. Those Feds just don't get it. They're too smart to know they're STUPID! Also, where is the Stetson Bank???
NOTICE!!!!... I was wrong (again). Snapper season does not open until April 21st, NOT 15TH LIKE I POSTED EARLIER. I hope this didn't cause any probs with anyone.

Mine was just over 8' long. A hammerhead that tipped the scales at
150# 6 oz.

Any trout showing up on the jetties yet?
-
I heard from a Game Warden that ALL of the county ramps are closed. He said that people are still using the one in Sabine Pass, but they are about to start issuing citations. Any thoughts on the best place to launch for an offshore run? I sure don't want to use PN Park. man, that would add 2 hrs. to the trip.
The one at the music park is just too steep.
Is the one at Pleasure Island still open?

Planning on hitting the Neches River and/or Sabine Lake tomorrow (Sun) to give the big boat a terst run. Since Snapper season starts next weekend, I want to make sure all of the pumps , trim tabs etc. are working properly. Anyone else gonna be out there??
Any Interest in a Board Member Fishing Tournament?
