1. Heres a little food for thought>> I've always wondered if you can sue the state if you ran over a deer on the hiway and theres not a deer xing sign...
2. I can run with the big dogs but I don't run with all the dogs, my son who was sitting with his brother at age 9 or 10 >accedently< hit a running deer @ 400+yrds in the head so your point is??? Yrs back a guy came into our shop saying his son (12) missed 2 deer at 400yrds and was considering getting him another gun so as to make shots at that distance, my reply to him was he needed to beat his sons a$$ and teach him NOT to take shots like that, he took his work somewhere else and I didn't care, YOU have NO respect for the animals you hunt PERIOD....
3.
a coyote at 468 yards, a doe at 452 yards and this year an 8 point at 292 yards, all with a .270 and the distances were checked with a rangefinder.
If they were not head shot, I wouldn't even talk about it.Pffffftttt....
4. Birds in Taylors dailey with specks in sand trout under them along with a red every now and then...
5. I know first hand what goes in and out of that shop being that he's my Bro, your correct on what your saying >no dought< but when looking at the whole picure its for the best. One thing my Bro will tell you is he's seeing more and bigger deer come in this yr than in the past, last yr he was down on his E Texas bucks because of it being the first yr for the ARs. Hopefully in the future TPW will do something to adress the issues and they VERY WELL know the problem. Yrs back when we were a 1 buck county an ex sports writer for the paper I hunt with called Clayton Wolf in Jasper and voiced his concern on this very issue, the response was "sometimes you have to do what you have to do"....

7.
My brother and I took our boys to Cameron this morning, and we had our 40 flounder in the boat before 8 o'clock.  I've never ran into them like that before.  We had a great time, and now my 8 yr old thinks flounder fishing is that easy all of the time.   ;D Get there early, because boats were on top of each other after a while.  They were all still catching fish.
Shhhhh, mums the word.....

9. Fri morn took my oldest son to help him get his first whitetail with his new Hoyt CRS, he had taken a cpl of Moufalon yrs back when he was a teenager with his Darton and hadn't bow hunted since. I hunt between Bevil Oaks and Pinewood on the North side of Pine Island, plan was with a N wind to hit the northern tips of the elbows along Pine Island and rattle, this way no deer could get downwind. Rattled 3 times, first time nuthing, second sequence nothing >we thought, on our way to the next spot we met a 17" 8pt heading to where we were, he got downwind and he was off, we started to get up and head on when a spike comes in the same way the 8pt did, next spot a 13-14" 8pt comes charging in not 3-4 min after I started, he stops at 17-20 yrds from my son, he never saw my son as he was doing his best to see where the rucus was comming from, he never saw ether of us, he stayed a min or so and was off. We picked up and started out and hadn't gone 50 yrds when I look up and see a doe heading our way, doe comes in to about 15-17yrds and stops broadside, son takes the shot, off she goes, I knew this would be a quick recovery as he dbl lunged her. I sat him over a feeder Fri eve, he got a good show and some awesome video of a 15" 8pt wanting to fight another small buck but the smaller one didn't want any along with a doe that didn't want the other deer around her corn. Before he left for Houston after the Sat morn hunt he told me out of all the deer he's taken and all the times he's been this was the absolute best time he's had. If I nor anyone I bring don't get a deer the rest of the season, this, has made my season.....
10. Exxxxxcuse my ignorance BUT what makes this a cull, he's got good tine length, brow tines OK, could it be he's just OLD, BTW I wish we as hunters could come up with another word rather than cull...
11. Surely you meen Jerry Browns hollow braid for offshore, Ive been useing Suffix 30lb braid for over a yr on all my reels including 2 E7s and 2 Stradics, I've recently switched to Fins 'Windtammer'  in 30lb, I have jerked several fish >out of the water when setting the hook with both Suffix and the Fins, no more problem getting a good hookset on flounders. You have to get used to it, the only cpl of drawbacks is its hard to cut along with being hard to breakoff but I do use a 20lb fluro leader so most of the time it'll break below the swivel, another thing is you'l have to lighten up your drag for specks to make up for the NO STRETCH you have with braid....
12. Great program, excellent coaching staff with a new head coach I believe not to mention great school, congrats....
13. Afew yrs back they had a rest. just N of Freeport that would cook your catch, they did some good Grouper and Mahi for us on a cpl of occassions, could be the same place??
14. For lites I was looking at the end of the boat ramp La side (looks very good) for using a gen, I have set up on the fish pass for Kieth lake but the tide was wrong IMO for catching. While fishing the other nite I saw a set on the end of Umphrey pk in the chanel, Last nite on the way home there was a set on the side the hiway just S of the ICW bridge with a set of the side of the hiway. I have also seen m a cpl of times set up at chicken gut crossing ;D I have had best luck on each side of tide just when it slows, whats you guys opinion on the best time.
15.
But the stupid thing is that I can go rent a slip there and fish all I want...rag on my head and all!  It's all about the money! BTW,  heading to the jetties tomorrow.  Will let ya know how I do.
When I first got a slip at the SPA, you could fish, crab from the bank which was good BUT on most every occassion I witnessed locals inside running crabtraps, fishing ect. THEN they they banned all fishing, crabbing, smoking because it was getting out of hand when infact all they had to do is restrict it to the slipholders, you can still do the above BUT you have to do it from your boat, there was some good flounder fishing along the bulheads, my grandson caught his first flounder in there before the ban. BTW it was hard to loose a bait on the La side of the jetties yesterday...
16. TVC, the case was concerning Blind Bayou off Big Hill, you are correct as the wealthy landowners took on your ave duck hunters and LOST BUT the law made it perfectly clear on the land where you could be charged with tresspassing IF your dog ventured outside of the waterway. I too was thinking the CG would use 'interstate commerce' in protecting the ship channel. In the past I have had coasties come out and talk with us while we were fishing in front of the bulkhead, now they will be out there before your anchor hits the bottom, and their not comming out to talk. Something else I have been witness to lately is the CG escorts of ships in and out, all but 1 I have seen were the kind of ship that loads from the back and sides normally with military equipt, BUT last week we were stopped for what looked like a normal tanker comming in, the CG will not let you cross ahead nor pass the ship, what gets me is Ahab could place a RPG or whatever rite in the wheelhouse from most anywhere along the channel from Sabine to downtown Beaumont...Your correct on the "clear as mud" statement. I cant wait on the LNG plant to get up and running>>>talk about a complete shutdown of the channel.....
17. Legally, I don't see how the guards can, also I have been run off from the bulkhead at the CG station, in the yrs past I have always picked up a few flounder against the bulkhead, now they run you off and I do leave cuz their 50cal trumps my Glock...
18. I would think most existing lites would be loaded with Sand trout >>when the tide gets rite. When I had my 30'er I kept it at Sabine Port Auth, seems as if the lites there always had sandies with a few people fishing for them, thing is during the day I saw the guards there try and run boats out of there, some left some didn't. I never saw any boats fishing the lites inside, I really don't see how the guards can keep a boat out considering its 'navigatable water' but I'm sure they will try, besides there are plenty of other lites in the channel...
19. About the only issue I would think is the fuel cap., the last few days you could have ran most anywhere WFO. If the price AND theres not over a cpl hundred hrs on Yams IMO you can't go wrong. You mite have to go to a Yam dealer and let them plug it in to get the hrs, I'm thinking thats the only way to get the hrs off a Yam.....
20. Most offshore shrimpers shrimp all nite and cull usually at daybreak then sleep most of the day, if you get there early AND are the first boat you should do good. Something fun to do at a shrimp boat, usually there loaded with Remora, talk someone into (or surprise) and stick one between their shoulder blades, will stick good and leave a GOOD small football sized hickey. Another thing is most will fishermen will try and trade shrimp for beer, better to trade beer for #s of new hangs or wrecks, that is worth WAY more than some stinking swimps....
21. Took my 7y/o grandson Fri nite to Sabine, was planning on fishing the lites at the Tx LNG plant BUT they had a dredging boat working in the dock area. We ran across channel to the shrimp boat docks to a cpl of good lites, 2 fishing off back of a boat, no fish being caught and no bait in the lite. We then anchored up next to the old Umphrey pier for a while with my 4' green lite, had very little bait come to the lite, I had figured IF we were gonna have any sucess it would be rite about the time the tide reversed, maybe an hr on each side. GS got a little bored after an hr of waiting, pulled green lite back in boat and headed back to the area South of the dock in Sabine in search of lites with some activity, found a rig that sat just S of the CG station with not so good lite BUT was holding some bait along with an occasional blowup. First cast with a Hackberry Hustler 'opening nite' the fish attacked it but couldn't hook up, a cpl of cast later I downsized to TTF 'opening nite', we then starting catching some fish, if you didn't boat a fish on every cast you either lost it or failed to get a hookset. Before we started catching, my GS told me he was ready to go cuz he was bored, when the first fish hit the bottom of the boat that changed imediately, we left a cpl of hrs later with 3 specks and about 50 sand trout. The bite started about 130 and was non-stop till about 3ish. The bite started about the time I had thought which was at the tide change, it went from very little bait to coved up with finger mullet with a few shad mixed in. All in all it was a good trip with GS learning about patience and why its called fishing and NOT catching....
22. Great job Prospects, Chris and the whole Gladiator program....
23. Its been a while since I coached LL or PONY, BUT in PONY when ejected the rule states you'll remove yourself from the vacinity of the dugout, the rule says nothing about leaving the park. I have seen many coaches walk out and call time, the rule says you ask for time and the ump does not have to grant you time.
24. Gladiators play at Lamar this w/e, from the looks of the SD roster, seems as if a comment I made early on in the HS home run leaders thread held true with the SDs recruiting Gladiators players. Can't blame the >players but thats all I have to say about that...
25. Heres a link to the tide chart I use, there is a reporting station close to the Pleasure Is bridge its listed as Port Author neches channel I think, there are several in and around Sabine lake, if you run the GPS#s at the top of the the page it on Google E it will show the exact loca of each station. I'm gonna wait for wind to lay some before I take my 7y/o grandson, but the wind could blow the skeeters away tho... the link >> [Hidden Content]
