  1. From now thru HS seniors don't EVER overlook KC, Mike Rutledge has been getting some of the best talent in the Houston area for yrs n yrs. I had 1 of his oldset coaches tell me yrs back "you'll never get a team from the GT to beat Mikes team" but he was speaking of his Palomino tm. ....
  2. Have had the best luck with dark (rootbeer) with chart tail in something 'tasty' like 'DOA' or Gulp although the Gulp dont come in Rb n chart. Like other posters have said when your 'n m' they will hit a shinny hook....
  3. Agreed BUT all should teach same style of swing 'its how' they teach that gets results.. Agree, my son is a pitching instructor and even tho he WAS one of the better hitters in HS >>which was his last official AB, with 4 yrs college and 2 yrs with the Rangers he was around some of the best hitting coaches in the nation BUT he will not teach hitting >>even to his close kin. He can reconginize faults in a hitters approach and pitch to the weakness not correct them...
  4. I fished offshore for yrs and can say I have been SICK in almost flat seas, 1 thing I did learn was to tie your leaders before hitting the water so as to ALWAYS have some spares. I always told whoever went out with us "IF you get sick I'm sorry, we're not leaving, and if I get sick don't worry we're still not leaving till we get our fish"....
  5. I can say without a dought some rules that the BY-LAWS address >>CAN NOT be changed per Pony rules by ANYONE in the local league. Its been a few yrs for me but for an example, when we were in it for the league championship, the league had thrown out the time limit for when the last inn begins, which when confronted the 'powers in control' found out this was 1 that could NOT be changed, sometimes if you read the book closely, the word 'recommended' is used which CAN be changed or altered. Yrs back I coached a Vidor Pony All-Star at the Mustang level, we had took the local tourn and were in Katy at the next level, we were playing Kingwood, when the Kingwood team arrived I noticed all there kids wore steal cleats, I went to the str8 to the director with the issue, what we found was the book said "steal cleats are not recommended' which means you CAN wear them, our league (Vidor) had it in the By-Laws steal cleats could NOT be worn in Mustang or Bronco. If I were coaching and had any problem with a league rule I would contact a PONY director NOT someone in the league. Yrs back PONY could pull a leagues 'charter' for violations but in todays ball with PONY's declining #s of kids a local charter can get by with a little more than yrs past...
  6. Could be his mom n dad were 1st cousins, they say you can't fix STUPID, what bad is these types are allowed to breed and they DO....
  7. YES we have in several places BUT the La jetties have been the best lately if you can get by the Sheephead and Macs. We're leaving in the morn to go a little deeper in La for some 'spots n dots' action in Venice, looking to get our moneys worth out of our La license....
  8. I saw GC call some good games....before politics came to the Asso...
  9. Dude, don't mention my nephews name in the same post with >>LL<< he plays Pony ball n select NOT >>LL<< BTW a HR is just that, no matter where your at, yrs back someone asked me "how far did it go over", my response was "far enough"....WW
  10. I still can NOT believe Augie let this guy thro >>>169 pitches. His left arm is probabally 6" longer than his other....
  11. Tried to post pics BUT says file to big or contact admin, I downsized file to 67kb > 576x432 still won't let me post...I tried... heres a cpl I posted on another site [Hidden Content]
  12. Wife n I was down at Sabine yesterday, had 4 reds along with 14 trout in the boat from the jetties, we ran back down the channel to a spot close to the causeway to try for a flounder or 3. We had just started our drift when a boat pulls in rite on top of us asking about fuel on the water, I'm thinking I know the guy running when it hits me, I ask are you Roland Martin, he pulled his shades off and says "thats me" I about pooped. My wife had no idea who he was and was a bit reluctant when I asked for a pic of her n him. We BSed a bit about the lake and on where we had been getting our reds, told him the jetties and he said they had too just come from there and they broke 2 rods on oversized reds, I told him of a cpl of my 'honey holes' but he told me he knew of a few spots also but would like to stay on the top end of the slot size fish as a 27 7/8" fish. I pulled out the 4 we had and all were between 26- 28, he told me IF he could get 3 like them each day he would be well pleased. Without a dought he will be on the jetties come Fri tru Sunday. I have some pics but cant post up?????
  13. ......I dont think kirbyville has any help (the coaches dont help getting to the next level except in football and favorites..) getting to the next level... ANY player that has ANY potential should not wait on ANYONE to promote them, you have to go get it, IMO its like a woman trying to get preg.....IF she don't expose herself its NOT gonna happen, with the internet today a player can findout most anything concerning tryouts, camps, ect.....IF you wait till your senior yr.>> you're LATE<<
  14. D, on a thrown ball from outfield, runner kicks ball away from defense and scores, does it matter if intentional, whats the call??? and the placement of runners ??
  15. Hmmmm, 0-2 count and the pitcher leaves 1 over the plate, bet he wishes he could take that pitch back. Good run HF....
  16. TC WILL be the only 1 you will find that does it their way, the yr my son was 12 the Allstar coach chosen was 1 we had beat like a drum 5 times, yes, I said 5 times, during the championship game I told the coach if my son threw 1 more curve, I would walk out on the field and pull him myself...
  17. Hey D, the old man said he ran into Pelo calling a game in the directors tourney, if so its good you guys got him back as he was a favorite of mine along with the kids back then. tried to PM ya but can't...W
  18. I adressed this issue 15 or so yrs back along with the 'powers in charge' picking the All-Star coach no matter his record, I was told then how good this idea works, at that time I had coached at Buna LL, Vidor Pony and then TC, I was basicly told even tho TC was the only one using that approach all others were WRONG. One thing I liked most then was the Vidors All Star coach (me) was given 2 picks no matter what the ballot was, one of which barely made the 'B' team but was my leadoff hitter and started in CF every game for me. BTW we did win the district that yr and almost took the next level in Katy....
  19. Their everywhere, their everywhere, if not today they will be in the near future, take no prisoners...
  20. FAR ABOVE AVE....come on now, just what do you consider ave, IMO you don't have to be a 'Pro prospect' to be considered good, BUT how many Srs have signed ??????? Do you honestly think Maddux would have got to where he is if he was in the lower 80s as a senior in HS. You guys are rite on you don't have to be in the upper 80s to get outs, just hit your spots>> any pitcher in the area only faces 2-4 good hitters in a game. When you have 3-5 guys that sign in the early signing period along with several more that are signed by the end of school THEN you can say what has been said here, is there just 1 guy that has close to a 2k per inn ave >>GAS is what gets attention and that is what brings the 'guns out'... But in life everyones got an opinion and all above is my opinion....
  21. The bad thing about going to MLD 3 is >if< a timber co owns the land they will keep an eye on your yearly harvest reports to TPW and when you have things looking better they WILL 'blue chip' the lease causing it to go up by 2-4$ per acre. If you were to look at the leases who are 'blue chipped' you will see they were level 3 for a cpl of yrs prior to blue chipping...BTW I tried to post a pic I took of a 1 1/2 yo forked horn buck that was broke off making it a legal buck per antler restr>>>this was a buck that the law was intended to protect but now legal using a loophole in the law...
  22. I still got one....I got one thing we talked about taken care of.But the out of town all the time I am still scratching my head about.Still dont know why there isn't more 10u teams around here. IMO its only gonna get worse as long as select ball is around....
  23. Can't do freshwater, tooooo many stumps, my boats HEAVY, 23' CC...
  24. Normally speaking, if they easily clear the ears your looking at a 13+ rack. My dad is 83 born in Saratoga, been hunting ALL his life and raised to kill ONLY bucks. He's always told me if you don't shoot it they will, recently he's come around to my way of thinking, believe me I've tried everything. I got to the point of not telling him of the deer I saw and this was something he taught me 40+ yrs back when around a group of men I hunted with. I had to resort to using my grandson along with his other 2 greatgrandsons who all 3 will looking for their first buck this yr, I know its low but you got to do what you got to do. I told him it sure would be nice if the boys had a chance at a 3 1/2+ y/o buck for their first, when I said that I could see him change, from then on it was does only for guest. I do understand the problem of families with kids and the lease restrictions, it for sure WOULD have been a problem with me if I didn't have several options when my 2 were young but I did try my best to teach them good management = better deer...WW
  25. I think it should have been done 25 years ago. It is ashame that it needed to be done by law but just looking at the east Texas deer herd explains why it was needed. Killing half year old and one and a half year old deer is nonsense but the standard on many of the area leases. If someone wants meat, kill a couple of does or save the money from the lease dues and buy a few ribeyes. EXACTLY, I got off a very good lease with tremendous potential cuz the board wanted to raise does>pure and simple, with all the killing going on in the past yrs some clubs will NO DOUGHT have a tough job getting any that meet or pass the min requirement for at least a cpl of yrs...WW
