3 years ago, when I watched them during Freshmen football, they had talent for sure. They were big and athletic. It seems that it doesn't transform on the varsity level or maybe coaching issues? They have some talent though. I'm seeing a trend though in programs like Humble. They may have lost some athletes, but if you don't keep the kids interested and keep them excited about a program, it's going to be a career ender. Welcome to todays coaching world.

The superintendent said on twitter that there has been over 65 applicants for the position. Sure wish they would post the list for curiosity.

Katy up 28-17 with 3:25 left. Good game

For $200,000 you'd be getting him cheap. What he and his success brings to that town cant be measured.
So many aspects of that town now revolve the HS. It was never that way before.
Baseball has had huge success there with numerous state championships in the past and as recently as 2009 but nothing compares to success and State Championships in football.
His success has more or less saved a town that is currently reeling from the natural gas bust.
Look, I know he's a great coach, but unless he's bringing the starting offense and defense, I think your prediction what he would do at BH is a bit inflated. LOL
-
So you're saying Surratt makes $200K?
I just verified that he makes around $119,000. That guy is coming with a crazy number. LOL
-
Will never happen then, He's making far more than that now.
In a small town what's a State Championship in football worth?
I don't live there but I have family that does and I know that the majority of the people there feel he and his staff are worth every penny.
Pride in community, and what it brings to the people living there cant be measured in $$$$$.
You gotta live it it understand.
I just off of the phone with someone close to him. His wife is a PE teacher there and when he was hired, he brought coaches and Administrators with him. I don't see him coming here, and your right, he already makes towards the top end of out $130,000. He is around $119,000. Carthage has money and won't let him go anyways. His next move will probably be college or something. I was told if I go to the game tonight that I would be given a sideline pass to talk to him. I told my buddy that I don't hold any clout for Barbers Hill so it would do no good. LOL Oh he did say that Carthage was going to beat the brakes off of Silsbee tonight. Silsbee fans, I have a wager on this game, so please don't let me lose my bet.
-
Major $$$$$$ which I hear Barbers Hill has. I bet $200,000 to $225,000 could land him.
BH will pay $100,000 to $130,000. LOL $200,000? Maybe for Nick Saban
-
Dallas area will win state now. Lol

Chuck Langston out recruiting. That's the difference imo, he's a Beaumont boy and is getting the local talent. Great guy by the way!

IMO BH needs to get as close to the top of the pay scale as possible if they want to pull a proven coach away from somewhere. I don't think the job is overly attractive otherwise. When you can make over 100k coaching bad teams in ISD schools in the are where the expectations won't be near what they will at BH, I think you get stuck between a rock and a hard place unless you lure them in with the money. Otherwise, what's the difference between BH and College Park where you can make over 110K and not really even be expected to finish over .500?
Traffic! Have you ever driven around The Woodlands during rush hour? lol

There won't be an announcement of the next head coach until the end of the playoffs. wink, wink
-
I was happy to hear that they are purchasing a new scoreboard and sound system for the stadium. That's long over due. It will have sponsor space on it, so I assume we will have big donors.
-
They have to post the job:
SB 387 79th Legislature
School districts must implement the new requirements regarding posting notice of vacancies for which a license or certificate is required under Section 21.003. The district must provide such notice by posting the position on a bulletin board at a place convenient to the public in the district's central administrative office, a bulletin board at the central administrative office of each campus in the district during any time the office is open, and the district's Internet website, if any.I think they have to leave it up for 10 days?
-
I was about to say the same thing GCMPATS. Also, the position pays between $100,00 to $130,000. Wonder how that stacks up to other areas as far as pay goes?
-
I think Texas City wouldn't combine with LM at the HS. That would put TC going 6A and I don't think they want that. I see them keeping LM as a high school in TCISD. They would have a 3A and 5A school.

One thing nobody else has mentioned, take a look at teacher pay around the state. Typically school districts around the major cities are going to pay more than those out in the boondocks. If you are really good at your job, don't you want to go work in places that will pay you 10-15k more for doing the same thing?
I do not put it on the coaches at all for why setx is lagging behind other areas. It takes a village to build a football program. That means kids from stable homes that can handle adversity and overcome it. Kid's whose parents don't make doctors appointments during practice, who don't take family vacations during football season, who don't tell their son at the dinner table that his coach is an idiot and he doesn't have to listen to him. Families who make sure their kids do their homework and keep their grades up, kids who eat decent meals every night, kids who don't have to take care of their younger siblings all night and all summer because their mother has to work two jobs because their dad is long gone...the list goes on forever. There are a ton of great athletes in HISD as well, but those teams are seldom competitive, those kids just can't overcome a negative home life enough to provide the level of commitment it takes to have a great football team.
Look at the teams that are left playing in 5A/6A and I bet you'll find that those towns/cities are the type of places where
1) there are several college level athletes
2) they are communities where most of the student body will be high

If districts end up like this or close to this, nobody getting out of 2nd round for a while.

I think Caney Creek will be there too. A team or two will be shipped south to district with Galveston Ball. Probably GP, Baytown Lee, and possibly BH.

This is interesting thought for realignment. This is what someone came up with.
I decided to go with history and split Austin area in Region 3 and 4. I looked at 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 and in each realignment, 3 Austin districts were split in regions.
17 - Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Cedar Park, Rouse, Elgin, Hutto, Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, Pf Connally. 9 teams
18 - Bryan, Rudder, Consol, College Station, Georgetown, East View, Temple, Waco, Waco U. I originally had a 6 team district with GISD, WISD, Temple and MF. But I realized that this was the only 6 team district in the area, whether 6A or 5A and thought that they would have a real trouble scheduling non-district games, so I slid MF over and joined up the current set of teams.
19 - Brenham, Magnolia, Magnolia West, Huntsville, Willis, Tomball, Tomball Memorial, Waller. 8 schools
20 - Caney Creek, Humble, Kingwood Park, New Caney, Porter, Splendora, Crosby, Dayton. 8 schools
21 - 3 FBISDs, 3 LCISDs, Manvel, Shadow Creek. 8 schools
22 - 7 HISDs
23 - Angleton, Baytown Lee, Galena Park, Galveston Ball, Barbers Hill, Santa Fe, Texas City. 7 schools
24 - Beaumont Central, Ozen, Lumberton, Nederland, PA Memorial, PNG, Vidor. 7 schools
-
My take on it is back in th 50's through 90's there were alot less schools. Texas population has exploded and the metro areas have grown to incredible numbers. There are so many different schools opening up and tons of folks moving to high income suburbs where they are creating heck of football programs. SETX pulls from families that were born and raised in those areas with not much influx in population at all. After a while the well dries up until you get that special group every 10 years (except WOS).

Here we go, Crosby fans can't take the heat so they are going to lash out at everyone. Guys, there's a reason why everyone is taking jabs at ya'll. Do you not realize that ya'll picked a fight with almost every team on this site during the football season. Ya'll literally put every school down on here and was serious about it. Most posters on here have been around since 2008 and poke fun with each other, but Crosby took it to a different level. Everyone is just dishing it back to ya'll. I forsee this thread getting locked. LOL

5a is getting tougher every year. This is the reason to stay humble. I was rooting for Crosby, but I think Crosby posters on here needed this to bring them back to reality.

This has been going on before Sumlin became coach at A&M. I remember when PNG graduate Dustin Long broke school records one year and seen himself the next year be second string and he transferred to Sam Houston. It happens at A&M alot at the QB position. Don't know why, but it does.
